Time for me to get a smart phone? Maybe. But not at the Verizon store where i was made to wait 15 minutes, shunted from person to person, and made to feel like an ignorant old lady.(Maybe I am.) Enter the Radio Shack in Los Gatos and clerks Darius and Eric. They helped me know what options I had with different phones, what the costs would be, answered my questions, and treated me like a real person. They knew a lot, but did not claim to know every answer. When one of them did not know, the other did. The store was busy but they greeted everyone promptly, directed those who needed little help to the appropriate section of the store, and then spent time with those of us who needed more help. Each would be an asset to any company. I had only planned to stop in to educate myself, but ended up buying a phone. I have dropped back in twice to find out how to outwit my phone, which still is smarter than I am. They have willingly helped me. I will go there first for any of my future needs. Someone is doing things right at this store.

I had to get some charging cables for our son’s phones. I went here and found exactly what I was looking for in less than 10 minutes, the guys working this evening was very helpful. I am sure we will be going back there once we have a need for more electronics items.

This review is in regards to their AT&T kiosk. I stopped by to look at their phones. An associate asked if I needed any help. I did. I asked him about the Sony Ericsson W580i. He didn’t know the answer, but insisted on calling someone on his fancy iPhone to find out. Minutes later, he disappeared. Guess where he was? Hiding in an aisle towards the back staring at the display and pretending that he was invisible. I stood next to him and asked my boyfriend if he was the one helping us. No response. I poked him(well, not physically) and got an «Oh! Hi! I didn’t see or hear you standing right next to me» response. Honestly, I didn’t think I was so intimidating that he couldn’t have just told me, «I don’t know.» Besides the odd customer service, this location has a teeny selection of AT&T phones available.

I like to go to Radio Shack for some hard to find batteries, chargers, neat gifts and other assorted electronic gadgets. Was in the neighborhood of the Los Gatos store, so dropped in for a needed plug adapter for Germany(heading there for business later this month). I read up on the issue of the adapters and voltage. Here is a summary in case you are not sure: 1. Modern PC’s are able to accept the 220v power in other countries. They have an automatic converter, you just need an adapter that changes the American plug into a two round prong European plug. 2. Other devices such as hair dryers, curling irons, irons, radios, DVD players are designed to run on the US110v electricity. If you change the adapter to fit the plug, but don’t check out the voltage… ah, you could fry your electronic item big time. Read the manual to be sure. 3. If you need to use your US appliance, you can purchase power transformers/converters that will tame that European 220v down to good old American 110v with 50Hz so your appliance will work. Lesson over! So, I ask the associate for the adapters. He takes me right over and shows me exactly what I need. Very friendly and good service. Try this at Fry’s and it would have been an hour marathon of slobbering morons asking what an adapter is. In and out with what I need in 5 minutes. Courteous service to boot! Nice!
