Best challah bread! Customer service is unparalleled. The owner greeted us and gave cookies to my twins. He also made challah with poppyseed for my hubby, upon request. Just love the feel of this bakery.

I am very specific when it comes to make French Toast. I have to use good Brioche or Challah bread. I was planning a breakfast for ski trip in the mountain. So I started searching a place to get good bread. I rarely see Challah in regular grocery store, I do see them in these organic grocer places though. But this time, I wanted to try some local bakery stores. I picked MAMA bakery and it did not let me down! Bread was eggy and fluffy. I used them to make French toast as well as bread pudding. The bread pudding I made by using these bread turned out to be super good(my bf said it’s the best bread pudding he has ever had :)). One thing, it’s a small store, or technically it’s a bakery workshop not store, so it’s little bit hard to find them. It’s hidden in a small plaza, just be patient when you are driving round.

This place needs more than five stars. I came in today for the first time and will definitely be back! Many customers came in and picked up challah, rolls, or pies and then promptly left. The owner was nice enough to make me a fresh chocolate chip challah and raisin challah. While I waited for the challahs to bake, the owner taught me how to make challahs, rugelach, and cinnamon rolls. The owner is so nice! He’s owned the bakery for twenty years and you can tell he loves what he does. Also, I brought cash after reading past reviews but the owner now has a Square reader and takes credit cards. Challahs were such a great price and are so delicious!

I’d read an article about the greatness of Mama’s and was itching to go. When I found myself in the area, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to try out their challah. Such a great decision, the challah is absolutely delicious — the best I’ve had in the Bay area. There isn’t an actual storefront to this bakery, just a shop full of ovens, refrigerators, and lots of challah dough. When we walked in the owner was in the process of showing his interns how to braid. He handed us some dough and taught us as well. He even tempted us with samples of his sweets, which were quite tasty(but I’m watching my figure). I’m sad Mama’s isn’t closer to home, but I know I’ll be going back in the future for my challah fix.

Total gem in Los Gatos. I almost want to keep it my secret. Yet, the owner is a wonderful man and the bread is amazing. My children(11, 9 and 7) were taught how his bakery works and even had a lesson in some of the bread baking skills. Of course I was made to wear the apron and was in charge of braiding the loaves. Each time we get cookies and my dog gets some rolls too. I wish I found this place earlier. We go every day for our 6 bread rolls(3 are gone before we get to the car by my children — a great afternoon snack with their fruit).

Best sweets in town. I have never had a Napoleon like this. We were on vacation from Orange County and wished this bakery was around our neighborhood. Must try their tiramisu !!!

Excellent local business. Owner is an excellent chef and teacher. Was very nice to our family when we stopped in. Kids got to learn baking, and loved the baked items. Highly recommend for any party or event. Los Gatos is lucky to have this owner/bakery.

The biscotti are the best I’ve ever had! I’m seriously addicted to them. They are the perfect texture, and flavor! Not too sweet, not overly crunchy, just perfect. Stopped by this morning to stock up on fresh biscotti and came away having had a fun lesson on how to braid challa and properly cut the biscotti. I had a wonderful time meeting the other customers and Abraham. He shared samples of his very yummy short bread and wonderful challa. I’ll definitely be returning.

Hands down the best challa I’ve had in the Bay Area! The gentleman that runs the bakery is amazingly nice. Greeted my boyfriend and I at the door with fresh baked challa rolls and even gave us a challa making lesson. Will definitely be back.

We frequent Sweet Peas Café and usually take our food to-go. Walking back to our car, we were overwhelmed with the delicious aroma of freshly baked«something». I saw the sign that said Mama’s Bakery. I told my husband that the catering company I used to work for did business with that place in the past. He suggested that we check it out. Fortunately we were not in a rush to go anywhere but the park for a family picnic. We took a quick walk a couple buildings over and found the little bakery at the end. The open sign was on, but the hours said the close at 3:00 pm. It was already 3:10 pm. Well, the door was a crack open so we went in. We were greeted immediately by a sweet man. The place is rather small, filled with racks of a variety of baked goodies. I told him that we smelled goodies being baked and decided to come in. He left to the back and returned with a tray of cookies with powdered sugar and offered them two our 3– and 5-year-old. That made them happy! He offered my hubby and me some too and we happily took one each. It was yummy! We decided on a loaf of challah with(sesame) seeds. He took one from the oven. It was piping hot and so delicious! We walked back to the car and ate 1⁄3 of it. A surprise find and definitely will come back again!

Best challah ever! Their Persian cookies are quite good too. It’s so hard for me to resist getting some bread especially when I drive pass Mama’s Bakery everyday when I go to work. The staff is quite generous too. They always give me samples… such sweethearts!

Came here on an early Sunday morning looking for great challah. We were greeted by the super friendly owner who has been here for 17 years! He quickly made us feel welcome and even put an apron on my girlfriend, and showed her how to make some different pastries and icings. Really really enjoyed this«hands-on» process. He even gave us a couple little treats to enjoy while working(really it was just the girlfriend, I took the pictures). Everything was incredible and delicious. Hot rolls fresh out of the oven!

Ugh I’m so torn. I came here wanting to give 5 stars but left feeling about 3/3.5. First of all, it’s an immediate minus star because it’s cash only. I would rather them charge a % more than for me to have to remember cash. Since it was my first time here, and I didn’t know it was cash only, I had to walk across to safeway, buy something else, and then get cash back. I got $ 20 in cash, paid for my $ 5 challah, and they didn’t have change. I now have $ 2 in dimes. This is why I prefer credit. All negatives aside, the challah was so good, I ate half a loaf in one day. needless to say, I cannot make coming here a habit since it is too good!

If you like challah and haven’t found this place yet, you are about to be very, very happy. First, the man who makes the challah and runs the shop is incredibly genuine and friendly. When we approached the shop, we saw the«open» sign, but also saw that we were technically there about 40 minutes before his shop hours began. As we started to debate on whether to enter, he saw us outside and gestured for us to come on in. Once inside, he insisted we try some of his special cookies, which was super kind of him and also delicious. I left with 6 challah roles for $ 5 and was the happiest person eating breakfast for the rest of the week. I plan to be back again and again. Oh, and he was also featured in a short little documentary on how awesome he and his challah are:

Amazing challah bread bakery tucked in the corner of a little baby strip mall. It’s a simple little shop with not much flair and 100% bakery. They make the bread right there behind the counter. They make the challah bread and large loaves and also small rolls. As a complete challah bread newbie, I had to ask what the difference was. The owner said and I quote«different size, same quality!» I went with the small rolls, which were 6 for 5 dollars, a good value. Fresh out the oven, the roll were crispy on the bottom and deliciously soft on the inside. They are delicious without any butter or preserves as is. That owner was super nice and offered me samples of his cookies too. If I wasn’t watching my sweets consumption(I can at least pretend I have self-control right?), I would have totally taken a batch of them home too. Definitely stop by if you are in this area!
