Tummy ache from eating here. This Zankou must be owned by the bitter side of the family because you can tell the staff they hire is unhappy. It’s a shame, because Zankou is really great food, but this location is a bit off. The garlic sauce is the saving grace. I hope the owner takes care to visit the location, read the reviews and make necessary improvements.(Cleanliness, customer service, presentation of food all need to improve).

Liars! Lied about their meats being halal. Not only one person, every time we called & asked multiple associates said it’s halal. I understand the concept of them trying to sell as much as possible, but instead of this dirty trick, they could jut loose one business. Now I’m pissed & most likely I’m gonna tell as many people as I can. I’m not a big time halal meat eater myself, I wouldn’t care that much. But I had guests who doesn’t eat regular meats & it was a big blow for them Ordered over the phone, the person who received the call sounded like she’s in a hurry. After waiting for a while over the phone, I was fortunate enough to place the order for pick up. And after driving there, they don’t have my order! Had to place the order & wait for 20mins. No apologies or anything. Like it was my fault to order over the phone Food quality is not that bad. I personally liked their rotisserie chicken with garlic paste/sauce. And their beef swarma plate is really good. I’d be a regular whenever I’d feel Mediterranean food, but their bad business ethics made me a non-goer.

This place is the worst location I’ve been to. I love zankou chicken but this location has the worst customer service and on top of that, the food quality isn’t the same as the other zankou chickens I’ve been to. I will not be coming back to eat at this location ever again.

I don’t care what anyone says, even me, I LOVETHISPLACE! The cashiers are helpful, snotty, helpful. The cooks give dirty looks at my bad jokes. The dining room is funky. The neighborhood is tired. AND the food is so absolutely positively incredible. I only get the chicken shawarma plate with extra pita and garlic butter, but I eat every last bit. Then I lick my fingers, lick the styrofoam box, lick my lips, run my fingers around the styrofoam box again, and plan for my next visit. Thank you for the best and my favorite place in L.A. and god bless the Armenian people even if the cooks and cashier deny being Armenian.

This place has always sketched me out a bit. I order delivery yesterday. Ate half of it and it made me feel weird. Fast forward to 7:45 am the day after aka today and I’m waking up with crazy cramps and instantly run to the restroom and vomit. I’ve spent the whole day vomiting and laying in bed. I’ve puked over 20 times and I’m sure that’s not the last of it. Thank you zankou chicken for ruining my night and my day and possibly tomorrow too. Hopefully it’s just today. But yeah, be wary when eating here.

BANGFORYOURGAWDDAMNBUCK! Yes, it is on a the corner of two busy streets, sandwiched within a terribly small plaza, in an equally terrible parking lot setup and has a straight up a janky interior. But it’s what the inside that counts, right?! In this case, yes. Zankou’s rotisserie chicken should be a standard for what other cooked chicken products aspire to reach in their post processed lives. Except fried chicken… do your thang. I digress. It is borderline obscene how tender, juicy, crispy and flavorful this chicken gets when it’s prepared– the seasoning is minimal and it’s rotation through the spit fire goes through unhurried, but boy, does it make the final product taste good. It’s such a simple process and yet, it can’t be imitated. That’s okay with me since the prices and large portions are more than accommodating for the customers. The side options are on a league of its own and any combination of them will compliment the chicken. I’ll be direct and point out the elephant in the room– Zankou’s garlic sauce is CRACK. I want to bathe my body in this sauce, and yeah, that sounds disgusting but when you get the opportunity to eat something that blows your taste buds away, you look for any reason to incorporate it into your daily routine. Jonathan Gold accurately summarized it’s consistency as «pure horseradish». It’s texture is perfectly whipped. Yet, despite it’s composition of a majority of raw garlic, it doesn’t overpower it’s meaty counterparts. That’s how you know that you have a power couple. The Mutabel is a close second and my favorite side to order. Personally, I think eggplant is the shit and it’s charred flavor is evident. Zankou achieves a smooth consistency that can also be seen with their hummus and tahini spreads. The tabboulleh salad cuts all the creamy spreads with the tang of lemon juice, slight bitterness of the parsley and sweet tomatoes. Each bite is incomplete unless the chicken, pickled turnips, tomatoes, peppers, hummus, mutabel, and tabboulleh is stuffed inside a piece of pita bread and that garlic sauce is SLATHERED all up in the bish. Then, and only then can you reach the state of Zankou nirvana.

The service here is awful! I went to this location on a weekend they were rude you’d ask them a question about the food no answer and when they did answer they had an attitude. The next weekend I went there again give them the benefit of the doubt they were having a bad day last weekend but the food is good so I gave it another chance. Nope! I tried the quarter chicken it didn’t come with rice so I went back to order it she rolled her eyes as if I wasn’t going to pay for it. What’s the problem? The two Latina women there on weekends one with the heavy makeup and the other with a stone serious face are the epitome of bad service. I rather drive to Glendale spot than this location, employees here have common courtesy and manners.

If it wasn’t for the bad rude customer service i would of given this place 5 stars! Staff needs to step up there game in customer service I mean I am a paying customer! But come on if u don’t like ur job please quit! The food is amazing tho I would spend my money some where else. I’ll prob just have to try another zankou around the area. Restrooms are dirty. I’m sad to say that this place needs to really up there game in customer service.

This place was within walking distance of where we lived so we decided to try it out. I ordered the falafel wrap and my sister ordered the chicken plate. My falafel was a tad dry and the pita definitely wasn’t as chewy as I preferred. My sister’s chicken plate came with a good-sized portion of hummus, tahini, and these picked radish things(?). Not a fan of the picked things. The hummus was decent but nothing to write home about. All in all, I think I’m going to try out other Mediterranean places.

I LOVECHICKEN!!! And the Zankou chicken taste so good. I ordered the Shawerma wrap. I thought it would be big but it was not. It tasted great don’t get me wrong but it was literally 5 bites and done. I know for next time to order the Shawerma plate. At least in the plate you get two good size wrap and 3 sides. I totally made that wrong decision. But at least the hubby ordered a whole chicken and I took a quarter of his food. Now that chicken was so delish. The skin, which I don’t eat skin to often, was so crunchy and delish. All I needed was rice. LOL! The whole chicken comes with 2 pita, thin salad and 2 garlic sauces. The parking lot is shared with other business. Can’t miss this location it’s on the corner of Normandie and Sunset.

Terribly disappointed in this Zankou. I thought they had a great reputation, but I found their meat to be awful: dry, overly chewy and overcooked. The whole point of eating Mediterranean kebab meat is to enjoy the meat’s tenderness and its spices. None of that could be found here. Zankou needs to learn a lesson from places like Massis and RoRo’s Chicken, who do meat right. I think that Zankou is resting too much on their laurels from their way-way past!

I’ve been to many different locations, and all seem to have good friendly employees. Except for this one! I placed and order over the phone, walked up to the counter when I got there, and every single employee ignored me for about two minutes until I opened my mouth for help. Then one of the employees says«what» I said«excuse me, are you talking to me like that?» Then the cashier girl says rudely«you need to wait in line» and mind you, I never said I was picking up and order yet. Imagine if I just wanted water or something else! Major attitude in this place! I will say they where busy, but you don’t talk to customers in those words and with a horrible attitude! I WILLNEVERCOMEBACK! I hope ownership reads theses posts, but I doubt it!

The food is great. The Garlic sauce addicting. Some of the employees however just couldn’t give a $#!+! On several occasions, and I do go there often. I’ve watched food be left on the counter to have the order number called out for pickup, and it sits there. For a long time. Getting cold. My last visit however was the most egregious. I watched about 7 orders be placed on the counter and they all sat there for 5 minutes. Finally one of the Ladies called out for an order pickup, and then went back to doing something else, leaving the other orders to sit there for another few minutes. I don’t know if they just need a talking to or if its time to clean house, but when your employees in the food service industry stop caring about the service customers are going to flee. I’m certainly on the edge of not returning. It’s not the only Shawarma place in town with that great garlic sauce.

Great price for authentic Middle Eastern chicken! I ordered a chicken kebab plate for about $ 10, which came with juicy meat and a beautiful garlic sauce, alongside pickled beets, thin pita bread, and some wonderful rice+paprika. Having been to the Middle East and European communities of Turkish immigrants, I can say these tastes are representative of the region. This is a great addition to the Little Armenia neighbourhood. I’m not a L.A. native, but this will definitely be a must-stop each time I come back!

Grew up down the street from this original location they use to be home in the wall and who would ever thought how big Zankou got not to mention the drama with family over money unfortunately someone got killed. Never cared for the chicken bit to greasy for me. The falafel is alright but would prefer Falafel Arax. However what I do love is the Beef Sharwarma and my family love the chicken tarna wrap. Tahni sauce is really good but the hummus lacks flavor and that garlic sauce everyone talks about is nasty! Just mayo with tons of garlic and lemon juice. Prices is decent and for about 10 or more you can get decent meal. Parking at this location is nightmare at times and you got to fight off homeless people hitting you up for cash. Service inside is prompt so don’t trip if you see long line

I have been to a ton of their locations by now and this one is just about average. Good, but slow service, really don’t get the long wait when the meats are already cooked, but whatever. Prices and portions are fair, love their garlic sauce, don’t really love the usually dry chicken or oddly spiced tri tip so I went with the falafel and it was pretty damn good. The place is pretty old and run down, but they keep it clean. Not worth going out of your way for, but hits the spot when you want something different.

Good. Top reasons to pull into the parking lot and step inside… 1) hummus 2) garlic sauce 3) pita bread All the Zagat awards say to come here for the rotisserie chicken, garlic sauce, and shawarma. This is an Armenian chain that has stood the test of time and to be honest is far from your typical chain restaurant. I ordered the chicken kebab plate and the chicken was very juicy, the rice was fluffy, and the hummus was super creamy and delicious. Finally, the side pickled turnips with diced tomatoes, romaine, and yellow peppers added some freshness and spice. Let’s not forget the warm and soft pita bread with that strong addicting garlic sauce. Honestly the food is good. Now, the restaurant itself isn’t very inviting. It’s kind of grimy in there. They even have a security guard there and I can understand why.
