This place is a must see. If you are interest in history, civil rights and art then this is a great find. I actually came here by accident. My boyfriend and I were in need of some legal help and heard about a free legal clinic that would help us with our needs. On the website for the Re-entry Clinic we found the address for the WLCAC Phoenix Hall. Upon arrival we found an old Los Angeles trolley car in the parking lot. Also, a big beautiful statue The«Mother of Humanity». They also had a car wash going on in the parking lot for someone that had passed away. Well, we go inside the Phoenix Hall expecting to see the clinic but find great paintings and sculptures that depicted the struggle of African Americans and Mexicans in America. Since no one was inside we decided to check the building next door to see if anyone was in there… No one was to be found but a ton of artifacts, photographs and statues from the 60’s civil rights movement were all placed in this building. They even had a bathroom for Whites Only and Colored… I believe they do re-enactments here so that you can feel and understand what really went on. After exploring around in these two building we decided to go outside and ask the car wash people if they knew were the clinic was. It actually happened to be right across the street at the senior center. After we left we did see a little skate park that was located right next to the Phoenix Hall. All in all, this place is amazing. Such a great hub for the community. This community has seen a lot as well as made some progress. This center adds so much to that progress and can’t wait to see what will come out of this. After checking this place out I decided to check out their website and it looks like they have a ton of great programs to get people back into the work program and live life fully. Please check out their website and see what is going on now and what is going to come.
