We had a great time last night at The Virgil. It gave off a 1920s vibe, with dimly-lit corridors and rooms with candles and embroidered furniture. The staff were on point – the drinks came fast and the bartenders weren’t stingy with the water. The two rooms each had separate DJs, and while at first we thought we’d mistakenly come for disco night, the music got better as the night went on. As 30-somethings, we appreciated the non-pretentiousness of it all. The place was kept clean, with plenty of places for the non-dancing folks to sit and talk. The dance floor was populated by an all-ages crowd, everyone just having a good time, with a lower ratio of creeps to normal people than you might expect at a place like this. I would definitely come back here in the future.

I’d like to give this a good review based on when this is quiet. As they would be very favorable. However based on the two times when it has been it has been terrible. A pretty weak old fashioned and a g&t followed by some jobs worth douche kicking me into the other bar despite having been there for 2+ hours and being forced to leave sharpish. We would probably of been in here once a week. But there is no chance of that now

Really awesome place! Great crafted drinks, great vibe and really great music. Also check out the connected bar, there was a great dj in there! Chelsea is an amazing cocktail waitress. She is on top of her game and very sweet and personable. I will definitely be back because of her!

My friends was literally kicked out of your bar for accidentally turning on music. We were out in front of your entrance and your bouncer physically assaulted my friend. He grabbed my friend, and took his phone away for no reason.

I had a fun time here at The Virgil. We had come on the friday before Halloween so it was packed and everybody was dressed up! It was definitely a fun atmosphere. The moment you walk in, straight ahead is a smaller bar area with tables and chairs. This area is more chill with some laid back beats where people can kind of talk over the music and actually just chill out. To the left(with pathways from either the front of back) is the stage and dance floor where a DJ was spinning and people were having the time of their lives dancing away as Darth Vaders, Zombies, and Pineapples. It was fun but crowded. There was also a bar here but you were probably off better getting a drink in the earlier mentioned smaller chiller bar. All in all, a fun place and I’ll be back for some more music and more fun.

Pretty dope little bar. They have two rooms a hip hop room and probably a punk music depends what day you go. The bartenders were pretty nice drinks not to bad. Loved them music but their was so many people with two left feets lol

I’m definitely a fan of this place. My best friend and I went for the first time last night for Comedy night. Cute set up, I like the speakeasy feel, photo booth, and the stage in the back room for performers. Saw Nikki Glaser among others for the first time and she was funny. No cover charge, happy hour is from 7pm-midnight on Tues. $ 8 cocktails vs $ 12, among other drinks. For drinks, we ordered — The Eastside, Irish Caravan, and this other drink with tequila, strawberries and jalapeño. We loved the Eastside and Irish Caravan, the tequila drink was average. Overall a pretty good selection of drinks, they also have wine and beers. They were suppose to have a taco truck, but it didn’t come last night, which was a bummer. Street parking only, which is like everything else around there.

I’m giving it 3 stars because it was too crowded with no a/c. The music was good in both rooms. The bartenders were nice too. But it was ridiculously jam packed as to the point where I had other people’s sweat on me. I went on a Saturday night. There was a guy trying to break dance when there was clearly no room. He kicked me –_– definitely not the place if you want to bust out moves like that. The drinks weren’t strong. So if you go, pregame and wear something light since the air conditioning doesn’t work. Also I suggest taking an über unless you want to valet. There’s no parking what so ever.

First time here with couple of my friends. We found parking on the street. Since there is only valet parking, didn’t even bother looking at the price, since there were plenty of street parking. The DJ was awesome, trying to keep the crowd alive! REALLYSHADY with the bartenders though. Better watch out! My friend bought the first round of shots. The second time my other friend bought another round, different kind of shots. I went to buy the third round, same shots we got the first round. The prices were totally different. I got charged more! Prices kept going up after or they’re just taking advantage of me, thinking I was too drunk. RUDE! Same thing happened to my friend when he went to buy the forth round of the same second round we had. Totally different price, it was more expensive. We didn’t care at the time because we wanted to enjoy ourself. BUT seriously watch out!

In the words of the great 20th Century philosopher, R Kelly. «I don’t see nothing wrong with a little bump and grind.» That’s the kind of energy this place has. On one side of the place you have music playing; the kind that makes you want to get sweaty and on the other you have a much more mellow atmosphere. This place is always a fun option.

This is more of a rant. I have never felt so invisible in my life. Waited to order a drink for almost 20mins. I don’t mind waiting. It’s busy I get it. But not cool to not be acknowledged and have 3 people waited on before me while I’ve been patiently standing there before those people even showed up. Is it because I’m short? Not white? I know it’s because I’m not hipster isn’t it. I finally did get a drink. La vie en rose — it was sweet and fruity. 3stars for the drink itself. Sweet but not strong.

Good taco truck right out front & plenty of free street parking. You’re Welcome Bae

I had a great time here for years! The last time I went on a Saturday it was for my girlfriends going away party. The mood was so perfect for catching up talking and enjoying drinks. As the night got later I loved the DJ playing old school Music on one side of the club and on the other hip-hop. Both sides full bar, great dancing, mixed crowd, fun people. Good times here. Only down side is parking. So get there early!

$ 5COVER for a DJ set spinning to a room about 15 people… we didn’t stay long at all… hopped over to Pour Vous and they had someone signing live… no cover… go figure… I wouldn’t recommend the spot… regardless how the door man tries to sell you on how crowded and hyped the place will be…

Tuesdays are happy times for happy hour(7pm to midnight)! Ah, but now that they’ve gotten popular and have created a name for themselves, $ 5 cocktails are now $ 8, draft beer $ 5, and other stuff at comparable prices. And to be fair, all other nights, happy hour runs from 7−9pm. It’s been a while since I was last here(the teacher life). My roomies and I would walk here and just hang out. We even had some celebrations here. And some of us would make a ritual of coming out here. But now, those days are long gone. Kind of reminds me of that one song from Les Miserables, «Drink with Me», «Drink with me to days gone by… to the life that used to be.» Now, I pass by the Virgil all the time on my way home from work and longingly think of those finely crafted cocktails – smokey, spicy, and citrusy. It was here where I was first was introduced to mezcal. And ever since then, every time I eat and drink at some crafty local sort of joint, I always reach for the mezcal. Si, por favor! Now, one of the coolest things about this place is the jukebox!(I LOVEMUSIC) It’s located near the entrance of this bar. It’s got an awesome array of musical selections: funk, motown, indie, classic rock, and classic punk that can be played– FORFREE!!! Yes. I said FREE!!! Feel like dancing spasmodically? Well, there’s a dance floor to get down! That dance floor and stage is located in the next room over – Stage Side. And still feel like drinking some more? Well, they have a bar there, too! No need to reach far for that drink! And not only is there dancing there, but often, comedy acts(think Aziz – (I see this guy everywhere in town! Last time I saw him was over at the freezer section at Trader Joes)), and other acts, such as live music. Kind of reminds me of the multipurpose room in elementary school. But, this one is dimly lit and there’s alcohol. Notice that I didn’t mention food. The Virgil does not serve food. But, just like many other bars in L.A., a taco truck is conveniently located a few steps outside of this joint – El Huaracan(I even reviewed this place). Those tacos are pretty cheap, too! Great for hanging with friends. Talking to dudes. Talking to gals. Talking to yourself. Whatever!!!

Came for a friend’s birthday on a Friday night. The place was packed, but it was a good crowd. There are two sides. From where you enter on the left is the main dance floor and DJ; to the right is a smaller dance area with a photo booth and another bar. Don’t tempt me with a photo booth because 2 drinks in, I’m all about it. The bar in the smaller dance area serves up some awesome cocktails. Don’t miss out! The ‘Cali Winter’ with bourbon, strawberries, lime and ginger beer and the ‘Irish Caravan’ with whiskey, ginger, lemon, honey and bitters were both amazing. If you like ginger, go with the Irish Caravan – it’s got a strong ginger punch. Definitely something I want to sip on all night and surprisingly exceeded my expectations. Cocktails are a little pricey at $ 12 each, but worth it! Their typically dark and poorly maintained bar bathroom makes you wish you didn’t have to pee. There is a valet out front, but we were able to find street parking along Santa Monica Blvd. The music was a variety(not just EDM, thankfully) and this is the kind of place that makes you wish bars stayed open past 2 am.

She hot, hot damn. Really the only motto for the night was that ITSHOT, HOTDAMN. Got there at 10:30 and dancing space went from arms radius to stranger booty bumps in less than 30 minutes. Smooth vibes. Super funky, I peeked at their week’s line ups and I want to for sure come back for some of them. Valet was $ 6 but goes up later in the night. I’ll be baque.

So I’m driving up to this place for a friends birthday celebration having a discussion with my hubby about how much I hate LA and all its pretentiousness. Next thing you know I’m having conversations with people here and convincing my husband that LA has a lot to offer. It takes a lot for me to enjoy a late night out thanks to Orange County that promotes a grandma like state mentality, but The Virgil’s atmosphere, great eclectic music(went on a Friday which was mixed music night) and company I was with totally helped me not think about how I was up past my bed time. There are two parts to this place, the main part that you walk in opens to the general bar/lounge area but the backside around the corner has another bar with a large dance floor. I didn’t get a chance to see that part come alive, but I was perfectly content where I was. Also, I am VERY picky when it comes to drinks and am normally a beer gal, but tonight I decided to live a little and enjoyed their cocktails. All I can say is YUM and WOW. A part of my freaked out that one cocktail was $ 12($ 8 during happy hour) and thought I could have a meal for that price! But after one sip of an Irish Caravan I was lost in cocktail bliss, and had 3 more. SUPER impressed by their drink quality. I seriously have never enjoyed a drink so much. My husband enjoyed sipping on a Lagavulin. Overall, a laid back low key bar with lots of charm and the mot delicious drinks I’ve ever had.

Update 11÷24÷14 Feel that I should update this review since someone affiliate with the bar has finally commented on the situation MONTHS after the incident occurred. I would just like to say a couple of things… First of all, the claim that the stage is only for«invited guests» of the dj is 100% false, as some of my female friends were allowed to dance on stage. They were no more«invited» by the DJ than I was. Second of all, it’s interesting that you are going to accuse me of «dancing on» the bouncer. This is primarily interesting to me because I was not making any physical contact with said bouncer, I was only dancing with my friends in a closed circle… The bouncer stood menacingly behind us while we danced. He singled me out of the group because of the way I was dancing– there was no physical contact with him in any way. And, just to revisit the photo I posted, this bruise was not inflicted by an employee who asked a patron to leave– It was inflicted by a homophobic, insecure pig who felt the need to physically reprimand an LGBT individual who was throwing his narrow, heteronormative world off kilter. For you to comment on my post MONTHS after it happened and claim to know what occured, and basically try to shame me publicly, saying that I made a sexual advance on your employee is disgusting– you are perpetuating a stereotype of gay baiting that is unbelievably offensive. I do not make advancements on sexist morons, and I definitely do not make advancements on sexist morons who work as bouncers at shitty bars where girls in fucking flip-flops drunkenly check their instagram in the middle of the dance floor and climb on stage to objectify themselves to the adornment of the bros in the crowd below. So, anyway, thanks for you half-assed apology, it really demonstrates the kind of business you’re running and gives me a lot of closure about the situation. Andrew

Thursday night after 1030pm is $ 5 at the door for funk disco night, its pretty empty til then. Street parking free after 8pm. Awesome large venue with dance floor area, and lounge bar area, two dj locations. Great place for birthday parties since tables are pretty much free for a big group. Just a tab of $ 100 needs to be made for the night with the hostess, which is way too easy just individuals on a weekend night. Taqueria El Huracan(taco truck) is next to it. If ever been to Bar Lubitsch in West Hollywood area, this place reminds me of The Virgil.
