The Style Core

I treated my recent college graduate daughter and myself to full consultations with Carla and it was a great experience for both of us. Carla not only has a great visual and style sense but knew how to talk to each of us about it at our own level. It helped us understand first our color palette yes, but also our body types and what the style that would help us feel best about ourselves. And that is the wonderful thing about Carla — she is not there to tell you how to dress or what in some outside way would look «best» she is there to help you understand how to dress and style yourself so YOU feel like your best self. I am excited to continue working with her.

Carla has an amazing gift. Her styling sessions/​consultations are really a service to empower a person to visually express who they honestly are. Carla has connected different disciplines and has developed a way to create an individual style that is truly an extension of who one is.
I had the fortunate experience to give myself a full consultation with Carla. Wow! What a great experience! And what an education! The awareness!!!
To start, the office is a peaceful and lovely creative space near Sunset Blvd., in Silver Lake. Carla is very friendly and puts one at ease immediately. It’s a very safe, and oh so creative environment.
We started with a review of the online worksheet I filled out. This included submitting visual images I love, along with answering a few questions.
We went through some exercises where I picked out visuals that spoke to me. From this Carla distilled what it was about the imagery I was attracted to and how to bring those elements into my own wardrobe. And it resonated, because those were the exact elements in my 2 favorite goto outfits that NEVER EVER let me down. Now I know how to replicate this. (And Carla did confirm my two faves had the elements she distilled for me. I was wearing one of the outfits. And both those outfits were purchased at the recommendation of friends I shopped with. So you see, dressing me takes a village…)
Then we chose colors. Mind opening to see the subtle differences between tints, shades and hues of similar colors against my skin. The awareness of what works for me is huge!
And that leads to the next part of our session. Carla analyzed my coloring and the shape & proportion of my body and features. She showed me clothing styles, shapes, lengths, etc. that complimented my body shape. Clothing shapes/​drape that helped visually equal my body measurements to body proportions developed in the art world as visually attractive to the human eye.
The exercises, color exploration, and body shape analysis gave me a vocabulary of why I liked somethings and permission to not like others. It gave me an elemental rock to stand on and hold fast to when tempted by magazine articles to try a fashion trend not meant for my coloring/​body shape. And it stopped me from blaming my body for not looking good in something. It’s the fashion, or non-​fashion that’s to blame. !! Everyone’s body is perfect.
Much of this information was captured in a booklet written by Carla. We went through the book during my session, marking and documenting what worked best for me from the choices. I have this booklet, a color palette of fabric swatches (mailed after my session), and audio recording of my session to reference for further clothing purchases & home design exploration. The color palette could also apply to paint colors and home decorating choices. I also took pictures of some book covers that Carla pulled out of her library for future reading/​discovery.
Best of all is the experience of meeting Carla and Erin. They are lovely people. The education and awareness of how I can visually communicate who I am was huge! What I came away with makes me so happy. Carla’s system is like Human Centered Design. Except the product is you. Carla extracts your style by asking questions and learning what you visually love, distills what elements all these favorites have, and brings that to play with your body shape and coloring. She shows you how to communicate this with individualized tools. I whole heartedly recommend The Style Core. Their service is very empowering. It makes me so happy just thinking about my consultation and what I’ve discovered from it.
You might think the service is expensive. It’s an investment that will pay dividends for the rest of your life. In the long run I believe one saves way more money by learning up front what works and what doesn’t. You’ve probably spent far more money on outfits that don’t work for you than what a complete consultation costs. I say invest in yourself and book a consultation.

My wife had the privilege of having a consultation with Carla, Eric and the team and she came home buzzing. It was so much more than she expected.
They are not the typical stylist (s) who just dress you with the latest fashions and make you a carbon copy of everyone else. It’s not that at all.
From my wife’s experience, they helped her discover and know more about the real her. Who she was, who she’s always been, and they helped her cover her body in a style that truly reflected who she was!
She hasn’t been the same since!
