Inner Sanctum, you used to be like six different stores that were painted gray and turned into a incredibly large and unassuming space to hang out at, with an improv. An improv, an improv, this place does… with a café stand that this place has, which is questionably is in its own right, a separate Unilocal page. You remind me that Hollywood is located farthest from any university in Los Angeles. And this big and unpretentious space kind of reminds me of the coolest café on campus. Unless you go to Upright Citizens Brigade, you would have no clue that this big café exists off Sunset because you can’t see it. It is located on the right-hand alleyway at the newly modeled Upright Citizens Brigade building. During the day, people are just hanging out and nothing else is really happening. And so what we have here is BIG and quiet hang out place with a stand of food, coffee, free wifi and cold brew. The cold brew is perfect and I love that this place exists.

While the café is practically hidden from public view, Inner Sanctum is a unique café with so many perks: Pro’s: — Gigantic space — Comfortable couches(about 8 total) — Fast Wifi — Great for groups/discussions — Free non-intrusive entertainment every evening(watch or don’t watch) — Arnold Palmers — It’s like hanging out in a hippie’s basement — Totally chillaxed atmosphere Con’s: — Music is maybe 10% louder than it needs to be — Something feng shui missing from ordering area, doesn’t flow right with lots of customers(no clear queue formation) This place is cool, come hang out.

Good place to work at. Mind when shows are about to start as it will be hard to work while people do they thang. An especially lovely vibe for anyone that wants to get writing done. I was afraid of giving a five star review because more good ratings equals more customers equals not my special little nook anymore. But they earned the five stars. Here’s to hoping it stays awesome! Note that the shows they put on are usually awesome and free to catch. There is a real movement in comedy happening around these parts and it’s great to experience or be close to.

Love this place. The customer service is crazy good. I’ve only tried the iced tea and chai latte so far, but they have some food items that look pretty good as well. Most of all, it’s really convenient for class at the UCB Training Center. There’s also $ 5 valet parking just outside the door with the nicest valets I’ve ever met. It’s really starting to freak me out how nice everybody is, now that I think about it. Maybe it was all a dream…

Power outlet situation has significantly improved. They now have a plug-strip running power to one of the larger tables. Yay!

I mean, this place is beyond amazing. You can stay there from 10am-10pm, working all day long. The free shows start up at around 8pm, but I chilled on the side, working during an open mic. They were cool with it. I don’t think anyone found it disrespectful. I was in a dark corner(the room is HUGE), with my tiny clip-on Kindle light(also, awesome couches and furniture there). If the standup was funny and got my attention, I would laugh. The majority of people at open mics are standups anyway, so I would assume they appreciate the«non-comedian» there to test jokes on, even if I was out of eyesight, reading on my kindle half the time. I don’t think it’s required you buy a drink(but of course, do. …The lemonade there is amazing). I saw someone working with multiple desktop screens the other day for several hours. I don’t know ANY other coffee shop that would allow that. So very cool. I don’t know what the above person is talking about. The music is great. A David Bowie album was playing the other day, and then a really awesome mix that had LCD Sound System on it. I had to ask them to turn down the music once because it was too loud, and they were like, «yes, absolutely.» One time I needed an extra desk, and the guy that worked there was immediately like, «yeah, let me go find one for you.» 10 minutes later, came back in with a desk for me! They are so accommodating and nice. They’re really going out of their way to make you happy there. I was working, and during downtime, the barista came with a free sample of pastry. It was really sweet. They really want you to come there and work and hang out. My only wish is that they change up their food options. The food’s great, but I’m getting a tad tired of it… just need a little more of a switch up each week, or a little bit more on the menu to choose from food-wise. If you know anything about UCB, it’s all about fostering a space for comedians to perform, for comedians to work and grow. You don’t get charged to put up shows there. You don’t have to have a specific amount of audience members or else you get charged for empty seats. You don’t have to pay a monthly fee to be a performer. It’s just a place that’s trying to foster creativity as much as it possibly can. Any profit from the theater just goes straight back into the theater somehow. The UCB4 do not earn their living from the actual theater. The Inner Sanctum is like the modern day Actor’s Studio, but for comedians, and better. Check this amazing coffee shop/but more so/AMAZING 10am-10pm open space that you can use however you need. The best. Thanks.
