This place looks like nothing special from the outside but the food is great. We’ve had dinner a couple of times and I’ve tried a couple of different items so I feel it necessary to recommend this place. Asked for guacamole and she made it right in front of me. No pulling out a premix package, no frozen, just made it and damn was it good. Primo is a good name.

Had to organize a company lunch for 16 people and ended up here because of the Unilocal reviews. First off, Chuy is awesome. He helped plan out my entire order(ended up getting 30 tacos, 6 tortas, and 6 burritos) and threw in chips and salsa on the house. I had no idea how much it was going to come out to but it ended up being less than $ 8 a person and I was blown away! It was also my first time having a torta and the food was super good. Would highly recommend Tacos El Primo to anyone!

I love this place. It’s run by a father and daughter and they genuinely care about the quality of every plate that they serve. Their carnitas is awesome and when they’re out I opt for the asada or chorizo. Their value is amazing, it’s definitely less than $ 10/person often less than $ 6. Please go to this place. It’s a green worth trying!

Best tacos ever. If youre in los angeles you gotta go here. Chewy will be the godfather of my children just because of these tacos. If i were stuck in a room with Hitler and Chewy with 2 bullets, i would shoot Hitler twice. Anywho, i love this place.

The absolute best tacos in Los Angeles. I have never wrote a Unilocal review before, but the food at this joint will exceed any and all expectations. I have trouble finding the words to describe how highly I recommend this restaurant, do WHATEVER you can to make it to Tacos el Primo!

Chewy is the best! Best street tacos in LA. Been going here since day 1 and it seems like the tacos have gotten better each time. Whether you’re in the area or not, put Tacos El Primo on your list of places to go, you wont regret it

This place is full of great people. Chuey(the chef) is awesome and invites everyone in with a smile. The food is amazing. You have to try the al pastor tacos with the green salsa. Overall a great place to hit at a anytime of the day. Try it out!

I work on this block. Long enough now to remember LA. Burger across the street. First Jorge brought his taco truck, then he opened the restaurant in the the furniture store building. That was a disaster of meh-food and bad neighborliness. When he failed, the owner of the building took over the site, called the restaurant Savore’s(sic) and did a good thing, he hired Chuy as the main chef. Life was good. Food was good and we ate there 3 – 4 times a week for the shop lunch. But dark clouds were brewing, not all the hiring decision were good ones and the service, while the food was still basically good suffered. Eduardo kept jiggering the menu and introduced the $ 5.00 pizza. The yuppies from SoRo didn’t show up and Eduardo threw in the towel. Eduardo leased the space to the Signature Café(national bl. in Hayden Tract) who wanted to expand. Another disaster. Kind of bland, dull, uninspired café fare that priced out the locals and the the lunch crowd that didn’t work in architecture and design offices like down in the Hayden Tract. They also had a hard time keeping employees and the food was never made the same way twice. One day the turkey club would have bacon but no avocado and the next day it would have avocado but no bacon. A few more yuppies but no locals so they folded and sub leased their lease to a few other guys who wanted to operate a taqueria and their food was worse than Don Jorge so they lasted about a month. We arrive at the now(November ’14) and Chuy is back and it’s now his own operation. Food is good again; it’s still cheap for the quality and yes, you can still get the $ 5.00 pizza. Good tortas, good tacos. I especially like the fish taco. Very lightly breaded and quick sauteed in a pan with a wicked picante cream salsa. He’ll build your food almost any way you like so If you like beans on the torta tell him. I kinda expect this review to get buried because it does sound more like a pitch than a review but I swear on a stack of tortillas that I have no financial involvement nor have I received free food. I wouldn’t take it anyhow since I know he needs the money. I’m posting because a lot of people have probably written this site off from it’s spotty past but it’s in good hands now and he deserves a chance to prove his worth as a mid-city taco joint.

BESTSTREETTACOS on the West Side. That’s saying a lot I know. But I’ve eaten at Leo Truck and Angelicas and these are better! Why? Because the portions are bigger and the meat is more flavorful. The avocado sauce is like crack! Yes, each taco is 1.25 but it’s worth the extra quarter to get Primo to make you a made to order authentic street taco. His wonderful wife works as the cashier. He serves 5 or 6 different kids of tacos but my favorite are the Carne Asada, Chorizo, and the Buche. All the condiments are there and they even have seating. I’ve been eating here for months but it’s time to let the secret out!
