Taboo Hair Salon

This review is waaaay overdue, but I really wanted to give my honest review of this salon. I followed my hair stylist and guru, Amy Bates, after she moved to this salon so my review is on both:
Amy’s been coloring and cutting my hair for about a year now. She made my naturally dark, fine hair to a fun blonde color without the damage. She is very good about making sure my hair stays healthy and is patient in answering all (and I mean ALL) of my questions about hair care and styling. I also appreciate how she keeps updated with current styles and she works with the budget I have. She’s very sweet and wonderful and would recommend her to anyone!
The salon is adorable and welcoming. Very clean and friendly staff. I love the details like the dish sets if you request coffee and tea. It’s the small things that make you feel pampered! Also parking is great! Overall great experience and am already planning to schedule my next appointment there :)

I’m obsessed with Erik at Taboo Salon, he is simply the BEST colorist in LA!!! It took me 3 years to find a colorist who understood my hair and my vision. I’ve been to some of the best salons in LA (901, Ramirez Tran, etc) and Erik has been far superior. He is extremely honest and kind, there is no unnecessary ego or rudeness like Ramirez Tran has (one of the worst hair experiences of my life).
He works privately from Taboo so to book an appointment contact him directly, his info is on his Instagram (@ejhagen). I’ve seen him two times for color and my search is over. For my second visit, he asked what I like, didn’t like, etc about my hair the first time. I love how he wants an honest answer. Other times I got my hair colored, I felt the colorist didn’t care if I was unhappy– not Erik! He also offers a «3 for free» deal which seems impossible but amazing, if you refer him 3 times, you get a free color.
Simply the best! He also cuts hair, I haven’t tried this but he charges $ 120.

I always wanted to do something different with my hair since I had never changed it up. I went to Caitlin and our first time together she cut my hair and did an A line Bob and cut it EXACTLY how I wanted. So I was super satisfied. Couple months later I decided to do a balayage and lighten my hair up. I didn’t know what to expect but she did an amazing job, and turned my hair into an amazing honey colored blend! I’ve followed up three times up to this point to progressively lighten my hair and my hair has grown so much and isn’t damaged like everyone said it would be. She knows what she’s doing and is super honest when it comes down to talking about the process and I love and appreciate that so much. She definitely knows what she is doing and I highly recommend asking about Caitlin her work is super professional and worth every penny.

I got my hair done for the first time at Taboo on thursday by Caitlin, and I was beyond impressed. Ive had some amazing stylist in the past, and I have to say that Caitlin is one of the best. She is very professional and also listens to what you want. She took her time and made my hair look amazing! I am so pleased with my results and I would highly recommend her to anyone for color and cut.

Caitlin is an artist! She put a lot of work into my hair. My results were not exactly what I had in mind when I came in, but I am glad that I trusted her because she made magic! She knew exactly what she was doing. I have had a lot of horrible experience with getting my hair done. This was the first time in over two years that I have come to a hair salon. I was referred to Caitlin from a friend after I saw how beautifully my friend’s hair had been colored, so I came in for a cut and color. After two years of neglecting to cut or treat my hair, Caitlin chopped off the gross ends, made my hair a stunning light color, and conditioned it beautifully.
This place is very pricey, but the time, hard work, and quality products make it worth it. My only complaint is that I wish I would’ve know about the «20% off for new clients» deal. :/​I hadn’t known of their website prior having my hair done, so I was bummed to see the deal offered on the first page of their site and wish it would’ve been honored for me. As a college student off on my own, every little bit counts.

Caitlyn is seriously magical with hair. Before Caitlyn, i went to every hair salon in LA that was too rated by Unilocal.But NO ONE can do what Caitlyn does. I will never let anyone touch my hair ever again. She is like Harry Potter. She’s the chosen one. AND I WILL FOLLOW HER EVERYWHERE.

I will never go to anyone except Caitlin for my hair! She’s amazing at what she does. I call her my hair magician, because she seriously is one. I’m always in love with my hair when I leave this place and get tons of compliments. She’s really great at listening to exactly what you want and making sure you’re happy with the results. Caity is the best!

Amy Bates is absolutely AMAZING! She recently moved to Taboo and so I did too! She listens to what you want and makes sure to address any concerns. She’s an extremely talented stylists and colorists. She knows exactly how to cut my curly hair so that it looks amazing naturally and has given me the best looks with both light and dark hair colors. I ALWAYS get compliments for months after seeing Amy.
Not to mention she is the sweetest person and an absolute DOLL. No one else is touching my hair in LA. I recommend Amy if you want an amazing cut and/​or color!

Went to Jovan 3 months ago and he took about 8 inches off my hair to an A-​line Bob cut and I’ve been loving it!
The pictures don’t do it justice! He’s been maintaining the length and color ever since!

Amy has been my colorist/​stylist since I moved here from New York a bit over a year ago.
She relocated to Taboo and I moved right along with her! Can I say I think she is the BEST I have ever worked with! She loves and takes pride in her work and she listens to what you say.
She does not try to create on your head, unless that’s what you want. When I first met with her she spent 30 minutes just consulting with me… She is truly fabulous and I am so happy I found her!

Amy Bates is an amazing stylists and I’m so glad I found her. She gave me the most natural blonde highlights I ever had, after having a bad experience with color at another salon. She works well with my curly fine hair and uses products that enhance my volume. Amy always makes sure to give me what I want in my cut and has made my hair look so modern and fresh. She’s not only a great stylist but a very nice person and full of knowledge on hair, culture, fashion, etc. I highly recommend Amy Bates as your next stylist.

Amy Bates is the most amazing hair stylist I have ever worked with! She is the only person I will let touch my hair. She has transformed me many times with numerous cuts and color. She even made me look amazing for my wedding! Not just me but she did all of my bridesmaids hair as well! If your looking for a top notch stylist you can trust she is your gal! I highly recommend her for cuts, color and beyond.

Jovan is simply the Hair Master. What I love about him is that he is such a perfectionist and he always makes me look amazing. He knows how to maximize my good attributes to make me look like a movie star, really! People always give me compliments about my looks every time I get a haircut from him. And that’s when you know you have a great Stylist, because the haircut is not the center of the attention, only you. Thank you, Jovan!

Caitlin gave me the best blond of my life. Seriously, if I were scrolling through IG, I would favorite the picture of my hair and ask a stylist to give it to me.
I never like how my hair comes out so this is KIND of a big deal.

I must’ve done something to please the hair gods because they delivered me to JOVAN! He is simply a magician with his cut, color and style. I have been going to him for 3 years now and have been satisfied each time. He observes hair like a rare diamond, observing the texture, dullness and finding a way to bring back the shine. Jovan has turned my brassy hair to a healthy state and he does so with honesty and pride for his work. P. s. he is so funny, you’ll have a great time while he works on you! P. s.s he gives great shampoos and can actually do updos p. s.s.s he has worked on many photo shoots and with celebrities (he knows his hair)

Seriously the BEST experience I had with jovan. I had to chop my hair off due to a bad hair experience. I tried going to two other salons trying to get a gunmetal grey and they failed.
I came to taboo with a recommendation from a friend to have Jovan do my hair. I sent him a picture of exactly what I wanted and he did that.
My hair is EXACTLY like the picture I sent him and feels better than ever. He conquered the gun mental grey! OBSESSED with my hair! Go to JOVAN!

Taboo Salon is not only an amazing salon they have amazing stylist. I did the ultimate mistake by thinking I can dye my hair out of a box to save time. Let’s just say I learned my lesson and will never do that mistake again. Moet at Taboo salon was so kind and patience in what I called «hair therapy» on my hair. My hair was so damaged but Moet was able to reverse the damage and now my hair looks healthier and more vibrant then ever. I’ve been getting several positive complements since my hair cut/​style by Moet. No hair dye boxes for me!!! It’s Taboo and Moet all the way for me …

It is rare that one gets a drastic haircut and is supremely happy with it.
However, last week was not one of those occasions.
Jovan had a longtime vision of how my look could improve, and after much prodding, I let him do his thing.
He did not disappoint; the look he was going for was akin to Rachel MacAdams in season 2’s «True Detective». This look required cutting approximately five inches off my original length and he lightened the color to the caramel-​brown that I wanted — not quite as blonde as MacAdams’ has it in the show though as I didn’t want it too blonde.
The result was a rock and roll, sexy-​messy hair-​do not unlike MacAdams’ style and one that I wear proudly. Needless to say: Request Jovan if you want your hair done right!

I came to Taboo Hair Salon because of an ombré job-​gone-​to-​hell at Hair Day (Koreatown Hair Salon). Deshani was recommended as the person to fix my bleach job. She accurately assessed the mistake and with much detail and attention after 5 hours, was able to fix my hair to more what I originally wanted. She looks after your hair’s health condition and gives good recommendations for how to maintain your hair after. I am impressed with her work and wish I would have come here to begin with. When it comes to coloring, you need an expert.
