This place was as bad as it gets. No wonder it’s probably closed now. I bought a Unilocal coupon a few years back. It was a great deal but man the place had the rudest staff I’ve ever seen. So here’s what happened. We ordered a few rolls and some sushi. It took a while to get our order. The food was ok nothing special. I was like ok for the deal I got not bad. Then I ordered the check. When I got the check I placed the coupon and then the difference in cash. The manager then came up and said we cannot accept that because you should have told us before you ordered !!! I was like what!!! I’m not sure what was their intent by doing this. i just had a terrible experience.

I have been coming to this place for over 10 months now, usually for the AYCE, and I went in there today and they no longer serve AYCE. Over the last 4 months they have been taking all my favorite items off the AYCE menu and today my fears came true and they got rid of the AYCE menu and replaced it with a new happy hour menu, which isn’t as good as other Happy Hour’s close by. I had a good run with this place to get my sushi fix, but I will no longer be coming here :(

Very pathetic of Unilocal to filter this review. My original review actually had a response from the owner who verified that I had been there. Guess the owners paid Unilocal enough to filter my experience out. Drove by and noticed the place is now Sushi Maru. My only surprise is that it took so long. Hopefully the new owners have fired the rude incompetent chef and the friendly, yet dumb girl that barely knew English.

Would give zero stars if possible. First of all this is the most unsafe mini mall in LA. You parked in a tiny cramped lot and there are(what looks like) prostitutes on the corner and others using/dealing drugs. I’m a big guy AMD came it broad daylight and was still concerned for my safety. I sat down around 11:30am and there was only one other person in the restaurant. The waitress could hardly understand English. I ordered the all-you can eat. The rule is you can only order 2 rolls at a time so I did… 20 minutes later I get them. I finish them and order 2 more… I basically have to go to the cash register to get the waitresses attention even though no one else is there. I order 2 more rolls and in about ½ hour I get them. All the while the sushi chef is behind the bar just wrapping fish and doing NOTHING. I then asked if it was ok to park in the lot more than 1 hour(tow away after 1 hour signs). The waitress has NOIDEA. So now I’m watching my car to make sure security doesn’t tow my car. Worst sushi or restaurant EXPERIENCEEVER!!! The waitress had the nerve to tell me I «forgot the tip» are you kidding me??? Tip for what. The worst service ever??? I walked up to her and gave her 2SHINYQUARTERS and said«here’s your tip» (On a $ 22 meal) Never go here!

Best cheap sushi place I have been to in LA so far. I could eat my bodyweight in sushi here, as long as I don’t lose my appetite looking out of the window at the less-than-idyllic surroundings. Won’t break the bank… Geisha Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Honey Roll are all picks for me.

One of my favorite sushi places. Love the California rolls and spicy tuna rolls. Their Crunch rolls are pretty tasty too. I’m not in love with the vending machine miso soup, although it’s tasty. Staff is really nice and courteous. Ask about happy hour before ordering, because it’s hard to understand when you pay(or not) the full price. Not a big fan of teriyaki stuff here.

I told myself I would stop writing any really negative reviews because I don’t want to put all that bad energy into the world. So I am simply adding this single star rating as a public service regarding the level of freshness of the fish at this establishment.

I saw their ad for 50% Happy Hour. I ordered several items and when I got the bill it was FULLPRICE. The Sushi was not that fresh and the rice was hard and not sticky like traditional sushi rice. I went once and I will never return. I was truly disappointed in eating here.

I wrote a review on this place one year ago. 5 stars! Now they changed sushi chef and the all you can eat menu. They took off the good stuff! Service is blah.

If I could give it a lower rating I would. The service was so bad that by the time we got the bill it was over two and one half hours of being there. It felt like they did not want the 5 of us there. The service was slow and we always had to ask for everything. Other customers were able to receive what they ordered, but when it came to us… they just happened to run out. Its a bait and switch with a few of the items on the menu. They had no ice cream. The chef was rude and we just had the worst time there. Don’t do it. It is not worth going to. They also upped their prices on AYCE. The best part of the meal was the company that I was with.

I’m the current Duke here, so a review is in order: Pros: –Delicious sushi(Tempura Spicy Tuna roll = Love) –Never too crowded –AYCE is always a selling point –Pretty good lemonade –Weekday lunch/happy hour specials on a large portion of their menu Cons: –Service is pretty bad. There’s usually only one waitress working and they usually seem pretty clueless to the customer’s needs –Their advertised specials aren’t always exactly as advertised –The sushi takes forever sometimes Borderline horrible service aside, the sushi is definitely on point. Way better than the closest rival sushi joint with AYCE(Sushi Ajita — which I’ve also reviewed). Come for the sushi. Stay for the sushi. Try to tolerate the shitty service.

A pal and I were feeling peckish, okay we were gluttonously ravenous, around ten p.m. when we hit Sushi Moon. I was almost sure they’d disapprovingly kick us out halfway through our meal as it grew later, but nope. Stays open til two thirty in the a.m. lot parking is good. The area gets a little sketchy as colorful characters abound at the nearby medical shop, adult bookstore, cigarette store, and liquor store. Get the picture. If your a little rough and tumble you know folks keep to themselves and won’t impede your sushi fix. Service was a bit slow as it had a good small crowd, and one chef. Loved the baked green mussels and the salmon tempura roll. Good hh pricing, even offers AYCE sushi at $ 23 p/p.

On the intersection of Santa Monica and Highland lies a semi-questionable strip mall which features a Subway this hole-in-the-wall Sushi joint. It is in a little plaza, so there is a private parking lot, but parking can still be kinda tight. I had only heard about Sushi Moon because of the Amazon Locals deal, although they are now running a similar deal via Unilocal. While it seems that Sushi Moon is known for their AYCE sushi deal, my coupon nixed that option right off the bat. So onto nigiri we went. Ordered some salmon(sake), yellowtail(Hamachi), bay scallops, giant clam and eel(unagi). We also ordered a sashimi salad cuz, you know, greens are good for you, right? Oh and finally just to make sure we left full, we ordered the«Sexy Roll» which had spicy tuna insides and avocado & eel outside. It was very decent. All their fish was decent. It’s not the best and certainly not the worst I’ve ever had. The sashimi in the salad were cut supremely thin. I was impressed with the sushi chef’s skills, but at the same time I felt conflicted because I wanted more fish! The salad itself was blah, but I shouldn’t expect much from that. In the end, the restaurant itself is a nice, cozy joint that is clean and gives good service. It feels like an intimite place to eat, but I would probably just pass on the deals and go for the AYCE option instead. This is one place where one could go for more quantity over quality without(sacrificing too much quality) sushi. 3 stars from me.

I was looking for an AYCE sushi place and came across Sushi Moon. I came there a couple times three years ago, but that was with the previous owner. So I was hoping they maintained good quality of fish and headed over there with four of my friends. Dinner AYCE costs $ 22.95 and includes apps like edamame, gyoza, and spring rolls. It also includes sushi(not sashimi!) and a selection of two pages of maki rolls and then green tea ice cream for dessert. My group got some of everything and I never felt like they were skimping. The albacore sushi was good and not terrible like the happy hour albacore at Kabuki. So you get some sushi bang for your buck and you’ll leave satisfied. It’s also a low-key place, so it’s nice if you want to hear what your friends are saying.

Went again with a party of 6. that was not a good idea. my bf and my friends were pissed. The food was still good. but it came out too slow. I guess it wouldn’t have been so bad if it were a smaller party, but with 6 people. 3 – 4 rolls every 15 minutes or so is not that much food. Plus, they changed the AYCE menu so that you can only order in 2 rounds AND they took out green tea ice cream! boo~ We ended up leaving before all the food we ordered came out… :T Total: $ 155 ish for 6 people including tip. Parking: small lot. but there were a couple empty spots when we were there.

3.5 stars Low down: Can’t beat $ 19.99 for AYCE sushi/sushi rolls… In a strip mall, very easy to pass and there is little to no parking… WARNING. YOUMAYHAVETOCIRCLETHEBLOCK A FEWTIMESFOR A SPACE. They do the AYCE in 2 «rounds». It’s generally 1 – 2 orders of each thing on the menu per round. Trust me. Your eyes are bigger than your stomach because we had to cancel SEVERAL items on the menu. If you do that, just make sure you cancel it before they make it because they will charge you for leftover food BTW, drinks are not included! Get your money’s worth by NOT ordering the regular rolls(ie. salmon and scallop rolls) I found they were the items that had the most rice than fish. They do have some innovative rolls and they are mostly pretty good. BAKEDGREENMUSSELSIS A MUST… REALLYTASTY!!! Red snapper nigiri was also tasty. Salmon was eh. I found that the more expensive fish were«thinner» obviously because they cost more. Just an observation… All in all, if you like sushi and sushi type items you really can’t go wrong for $ 20 bucks. You don’t come here looking for Sasabune quality stuff but you will leave with your sushi fix FIXED.

HWe like this place. This place is a reluctant 5-stars. I’d give it 4, Samantha told the owner we’d give it 5… I still stick to my combination of Service, food and ambience, but I was out-voted ;) Moon Sushi is the new name for Ryo Sushi as another Unilocaler mentioned. Back in March 2010 this place got new management. And the owner/chef is passionate about his food. I’ve eaten at Hizoren and this is not quite at that level, but with an ayve deal of $ 20 I don’t have any complaints. The sushi/sashimi is good, fresh and there’s plenty to choose from, although you can’t order multiple plates, only one of each. The various sashimi dishes were presented on golden brown leaves… I’ve never seen that before. Moon suffers from a poor location on the corner of Santa Monica/Highland which seems to have a group of loiters in the evening. Getting a car park attendant might help ‘shoo’ them away. They look menancing, but they’re pretty harmless. And of course, parking is free. Sushi Moon also doesn’t have a liquor license which might be a deal-breaker for some diners. Everything we had: saba/mackerel, white tuna, yellow tail sashimi was fresh and good. The sashimi and baked rolls were smaller than at other places, but these are all included in the ayce $ 20 deal. You can’t go wrong. After we asked for the check the owner/chef looked disbelievingly that we weren’t ordering more. Then he told us to wait — didn’t want us to leave without trying his special(not on the menu) Salmon Pie. It was delicious: salmon sashimi, slice of fresh pear and sweet omlette. That combination of flavors was new to Sam and me. The owner/chef knew about William Y.‘s reason for his 1-star review. I said I’d write to him to say how good Sushi Moon was. However, I’m not sure I’d drive over 5 miles to eat here, but it’s a great deal if you are nearby and love sushi. Oh, and folks have mentioned the nice décor. It is cute and if you look above you, there are origami cranes flying above you.

Ok, I rarely ever go to the same sushi place twice in a row, but I did and boy was I glad I did… New suggestion for this place, don’t even look at the menu, and if you are a true Sushi Enthusiast(like me) then just tell the chef to make you what ever he wants to make for you! I did this and man o man was I in heaven! I got three unique rolls not on the menu and a nigiri something that was out of this world… it shot me to the«moon» if it were. One was a fried tempura battered roll with albacore tartar on top with a sweet sauce; another was had spicy tuna inside(not too spicy, not too mild) with Tuna on top with some other goodies in it; and the last roll was a BANANAROLL! Not on the menu, but chef was SUPER excited to make it. It was sweet and a little savvory, I told him what I thought and he smiled and thought maybe he can add something new to it next time I come in. And if you go get their«Salmon Pie» you will L-O-V-E it soooo much, I can’t even describe how good it is, and I won’t spoil it for you, you just have to go! Total for this great experience was a scratch in my wallet compared to what I would have paid at other places! And ½ off sushi here since they’ve only been open a month! ENJOY!
