I purchased a smash box violetta eyeliner from Sephora in Santa Barbara mall, 5 weeks ago,…it was a very small amount of eye liner in the 6 inch tube, and ran out superfast. I was so surprised, I spent like $ 35.00 on an eyeliner. Be aware of the short amount of product they give you, not worth the price! Shari Lock

I love their cosmetics, but here’s where they go wrong — they create these amazing pallets of 3 shadows. Base and two accent colors. All equal portions. You go through the base 10 times faster because you use more of it than the accents. But you can’t go back and just buy the base for a refill. So you’re stuck with two accent colors and no base. Your only choice is to either buy a new pallet or match the base color with another make up brand. Lame. Other than that, I’ve loved their stuff.

Just to clarify — this review is for the Smashbox Cosmetics counter in Nordstom at the Westside Pavillion. The other two listings on here for Smashbox are about the actual products and Smashbox Studios in Culver City. I am reviewing the GREAT service I received at this cosmetics counter on Saturday(my birthday!). Other Unilocalers have already spoken about the great customer service at Nordstrom and I more than agree. Nordstrom is my favorite because they really pride themselves on upholding the institution of great department stores. I specifically LOVE the cosmetics, shoes and accessories departments in Nordstrom because of the high end products they carry and general kid-in-a-candy-store vibe they’ve got going. I called the Smashbox Cosmetics counter at Nordstrom and spoke to the counter manager, Alta, who encouraged me to make an appointment with her, rather than just walk in. She explained that makeup application is free but they do require a 3-item purchase. I was all down with that, as some b-day pampering and treating was definitely in order. I was about 5 minutes late to my 6 p.m. appointment but it was all good, Alta was totally ready to hook me up. I have been hesitant to have my make-up professionally done in the past because I don’t have the best skin, I have very sparse brows which I pencil myself and I’m very particular about what I like. I basically figured I was best prepared to handle these problemas, so why bother? Because when you decide to try something new and treat yourself you might be VERY pleasantly surprised! She started by asking me all kinds of questions about what I’m comfortable with, what color my dress was, what I’m into, how I normally do my makeup, etc. I think this communication between us was really crucial in terms on the final product. She really understood what I was looking for and immediately knew what direction to go from there. We decided that I wanted a smoky eye in plum tones, and that I would pencil in my own brows after she applied my foundation(the matte photo-finish foundation primer is an awesome product). We had a great little conversation the whole time she worked and the whole process took just about an hour all together. I LOVED the end result. The eye makeup was the best Id ever had on my own face! Like, my face has never been that pretty-fied ever! The coverage of the foundation was immaculate! The whole experience was so awesome and fun and I’m just looking forward to the next occasion that I can use an excuse to return! I ended up with three great new products(the lid primer, the o-gloss lip gloss, and an eyeliner) and a super amazing face for just under $ 70. Totally money well spent. Looking hot on your birthday(and in the pictures!) is priceless people!
