Slauson Donuts

If this were my hood, this would be our donut spot!
I’m a cake donut person. I just don’t get ‘plain glazed donuts’ or the people who eat them. So any donut shop I go to, I’m getting a cake donut or an old fashioned (or if I’M REALLY lucky, a buttermilk bar).
Had my first cake donut and old fashioned from Slauson Donut this morning and was impressed. We were in the neighborhood visiting family and stopped for donuts. SO GLAD WE DID. The Devils food cake donut had the right crisp to the outer layer and the inside remained neither undercooked and doughy NOR was it hard and overcooked. The donut was dare I say, perfect. My hubby, who is usually a chocolate long John kind of guy even had to try one. His words «I have a new favorite donut».
My little had a cake donut with pink frosting (I think it was cherry) and devoured it.
Coffee was STRONG. In a good way for my husband.
The shop owners were cool, helpful and seemed to have a great rapport with the group of regulars who were chillin and having their morning coffee. Everyone seemed in a good mood and friendly, we sat down and ate there before going about our day. Was a very mellow and old school vibe. Enjoyed the crowd and took donuts to go.
When we are in the area, we will be making a stop at Slauson Donuts.

Best donuts ever. The people who work there are really friendly and they make fresh donuts all day. I remember one late wintery night in particular when I was blessed and clearly favored by the donut deities themselves. My bf and I stroll up to the window just as the man behind the (bulletproof) window was placing two racks of freshly made maple bars and old fashions out to cool. The smell of the fresh donuts gave me butterflies; my inner fat girl knew her life was about to change for the better. The sight of the glaze, glistening and glimmering, gazing me right in my eyes is one I’ll never forget. The thought alone makes me lick my lips and smirk a little. Just a little.

I absolutely love their donuts! Especially the crumb! This is the only donut shop in town that rivals Randy’s on Manchester, and that’s saying a lot. High praise to this donut spot.

On our Saturday morning walk we cheated. I had the old fashioned glazed perfectly glazed and my mini me had a sprinkled donut. We enjoyed every bite. Yum. 6 years in the neighborhood first time customers and not disappointed.

I think it has just the best tasting donuts, and it’s right across from my house. I like that it is also 24.7 — so you know those late nights, when you’re hungry. I just go to Slauson Donuts and resolve my issue.
The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because they don’t take debit card. I just don’t understand how some people don’t take debit card. Get with the times! Other than that, definitely coming back when I have cash in my wallet! :)
