AWKWARD!
I was super excited for Roxy’s to open up… until I went there.
My wife and I walked in to Roxy’s and the first thing we see is the waitress making out with a security guard. ok kinda weird but I can look past that. Next was the plethora of really bad cat paintings and a random assortment of t-​shirts and trinkets.
We ordered a couple sandwiches and took a seat at a mismatched table and chairs in the corner. The 20 min it took to get our sandwiches felt like an eternity.
We didn’t know if what we were experiencing was real — we debated if it was a «front» for some other operations running out of the back… thinking maybe they really don’t want people to eat there… and if thats the case they are geniuses!

If you want to have a good lunch — there are better places in the neighborhood.

I don’t have a lot to say about Roxy’s Café other than it’s no longer a Café. Wait, what not a café? That’s right, though the store’s name evokes a place to get food and drink, it is in fact a gift, clothing and jewelry store.
I went in there a couple of weeks ago looking to get a sandwich and a tasty beverage, and much to my surprise they informed me that they no longer served food or beverages. I sort of perused the joint, but they sell stuff that’s not really my style. I’m sure it’s appealing to many folks, but I wanted one of the delicious looking sandy’s that are pictured in the reviews. So I left bewildered and unfulfilled.
Disappointing, but I wish them well in their current incarnation.

Recently this café has turned around and become a treasure store of sorts. Books, clothes, candles, jewelry, all sorts of fun things!
The café has kept its drinks though, you can buy coffee or one of the many flavors of hot chocolate or tea. They’ve even added muffins and the atmosphere is quite nice if you decide to stick around and stay there.
All in all, an excellent turn around!

You know what they say: You either love cats, or you hate them.
Walking in to this place, you get the sense that the owner loves cats. And this, I think, is central to every critique, observation, and judgment that may ever be made about this idiosyncratic café.
Imagine yourself as a cat, and suddenly the intention and mindset behind this café’s existence seems all the more accessible.
Cat photos everywhere on the wall? Cats are very self-​absorbed. Cats even think people are sub-​cat versions of cats.
Big, open, empty, weird, daycare-​ish interior? Cats love big open spaces. As well as cramped ones. Aesthetics and style, cats probably could not care less about.
Cats can be picky about food. But come on, they’re not that picky. If you are a cat, any grade of ham, cheese, fish, or milk is going to activate the inner tiger spirit like a rising wave of kundalini.
When I walk into this café and project any expectations of a cool, hip, progressive, mind-​blowing, or exciting café onto my surroundings, I feel the awkward void of absolutely nothing rippling back at me.
When I walk into this café and imagine myself a cat, I am tickled by the idea that someone has created an unintentional outsider performance art space that may never be truly appreciated for what it is: a whimsical transference of deep cat passion onto the sandwich shop business model.
I think the owner of this business really, really, really loves cats. And that is all.

Very interesting lay out (thought it was odd they were selling DVDs and books for $ 3) as well as jewelry. The guy working the counter was friendly and helpful and the sandwich was freakin great — I got the The Roxy and it’s one of the best $ 8 sandwiches I’ve ever had. Kinda small, but tasty. Will definitely go back.

I was so excited that not only a new biz was opening up in the area, but it appeared to be a smaller mom and pop type shop. The signage alone made me lower my expectations (not super professional looking), but I was still a bit taken aback at the awkwardness of the inside.
The interior is light and airy due to a high ceiling, which is nice. But it’s a super weird collection of overpriced cat photos, cheap DVDs and books, and some little boutique area. Sorta all over the place.
But I put the eclecticism aside and decided to try a breakfast sandwich. I was a bit disheartened to see my bacon being microwaved, and considering all the ingredients were pre made it sure took a while. But overall the sandwich itself wasn’t bad. And the price wasn’t bad either.
I’m always rooting for a new biz in the area, but this is a tough one. I’d love to see it succeed and maybe spruce up the décor and menu.
Maybe I’d like it more if I liked cats?

At Roxy’s Café, you won’t find a fancy feast, Roxy the Cat, or a reason for the hodge podge of colors, seats, and art featuring the head of a cat. What you will find are some extremely friendly people working the counter and serving the food. They bring the overall rating up to a-​ok because the chow wasn’t the cat’s meow.
Olivia pounced on the French Toast ($ 5) topped with Blueberries, Strawberries, and Powdered Sugar plus a couple Bacon strips on the side. The fruit was a nice touch; however, the bread was a bit of a wrestle. I got a Ham and Swiss with Avocado on a Ciabatta sandwich which was nothing to hiss at.
For drinks, a Cat-​vocado Smoothie sounded worthy of purrs, but the mix of Avocado, Banana, Orange Juice, Honey, and Yogurt needs to be tweaked with less Banana and OJ. Meanwhile, a Cat-​rageous Milkshake of Peanut Butter, Chocolate Syrup, and Vanilla Ice Cream was a much creamier frolic of flavor.
Three meows for Roxy’s Café. Since it’s new, there’s plenty of opportunity to stretch and grow while it scratches out a spot in the Westchester/​Playa community.

I see what two of the reviews are saying about the vibe. Super weird, sloppy and very unfinished. It does look like a daycare, but not one I would ever let my child go to. Just really uncomfortable surroundings.
I ordered a sandwich (the ham special?) and a smoothie (something with cinnamon and apples).
I asked for the sandwich to have all of the condiments, but when i got it, it didn’t have any pepperonchini or onions, which I had asked for. I also asked for the bread toasted and it wasn’t. Sadly it fell in to the category of THE most amateur sandwich I’ve ever had. Not kidding. I would actually rather walk to Ralph’s, buy the ingredients and make a few for myself and I would have come up with a better tasting one.
The smoothie (which I did not like at first, but grew on me) took 15 minutes to get because someone walked in who I presumed to be the owner about 30 seconds before me, walked behind the counter and ordered a few smoothies. I also ordered a smoothie a minute later yet I had to wait to get mine (the paid-​for smoothie), AFTER the boss’s smoothie.
Come on guys, make the customer the priority… or don’t I don’t care, but I won’t be back.

Save your money for somewhere else. Service was not good, vibe was weird and I definitely could’ve made a better sandwhich at home. Owner was standing right there and didn’t thank us as we walked out. Lame.

I really can’t stand when a new restaurant opens and the first 5 or so reviews are just so spectacular and then you look at how many reviews the writer has written on and lo an behold… just 1. Is it a coincidence that 3 out of 4 first reviews are excellent, yet this is the only place they reviewed?
Now heres a reality check on roxys.
I believe i met the manager or owner as she was pushing the place to window shoppers peeking in or reading the outside menu. She was a really pleasant lady.
But the first thing she said was «No this is not a day care… this is a deli» And I was thinking (we were all thinking) Yes it totally looks like a day care. But why would you have a deli looking like a day care to begin with. BAD sign right off the top that they even need to address this (especially to arriving customers). Such a bad sign that one would let a new business open in this manner.
Next question (since its a «deli») what brands of meat do you serve. The answer took a wile as it is nothing special just USDA meat. Really? Why is this a deli? It looks like it should just be called a sandwich shop. The name says café i know, but was pushed as a deli. Nothing and i mean nothing says deli about this place. it is so empty and kinda depressing. such a waste of space to boot. the «deli» counter looks like it would be a place that has about 6 drums of ice-​cream in it. and thats about it. No style, no ambiance just a room that actually reminds you of a day care.
Sorry Roxy… not buying the fake reviews and actually disappointed that you opened this without much thought. I wished you had done some research on delis and what they are about. And you may want to get a decorator in there before that place goes belly up in the next month. People don’t want to eat at a daycare (you even recognize this). Seriously would you eat there if you just passed by?
By the way we all got home and realized we won’t come back and eat there for those exact reasons. How many people are doing the same? Don’t tell people this is not a daycare. just say hi and if they ask say you are going through renovations. otherwise you will scare them away.
This may be pretty blunt, but i think you need to hear the truth perhaps you can use this criticism to make the necessary adjustments and save your investment before its gone.
In the end I hope things turn around and it all works out for you and the community.
UPDATE: So i went out on a limb and decided to try the rueben (just to see if my intuition was right about the place) And… Yup. Its no bueno! a rueben is grilled. This was pressed on some lame George Forman style grill. The meat is really low grade (i don’t care if it’s USDA) as expected and just watery. Now i feel better about my initial judgment on this place. The pickle was ok:)

I’ve had the turkey sandwich and built my own, and both were great. I’d also like to recommend the shakes. Love a new business.

I stopped by here the other day to check it out, but I wasn’t too hungry at the time so I ordered a smoothie. I got the Roxy Berry and it was interesting in a good way. Comes with ice cream in it, which makes it tastier and thicker, but not too thick. I think you can substitute yogurt if you wanted to. The sandwiches looked interesting and the staff seemed friendly, so I’ll definitely be coming back to try a sandwich.
Update:
I tried The Roxy signature sandwich which is chicken marinated in teriyaki sauce. It was pretty good. There aren’t too many other places in the area to get a sandwich that I can think of other than Subway, and I preferred this over the sweet onion chicken teriyaki at Subway, so I’ll probably be coming back here pretty often.

This is for the smoothie. I got the Roxy-​Berry Smoothie which had vanilla ice cream, strawberry, blueberry, and raspberries. Mmmm so many berries. I really liked this smoothie. Had a twist with the icecream. Never had that before. Is that normal to have icecream in it? If it is I didn’t know.

I also tried the sample for this berry and white chocolate. It was really really good. Not on the menu yet since it just opened but I’d definitely give that a try.
But as of now the place is brand new and the staff seems very very friendly and helpful. Glad for that! :)
I had the turkey sandwich with lettuce tomato American cheese. It was good. Just a regular sandwich. Not the best. Not the worst. It’s the only place to eat a sandwich besides the subway that’s near. But that’s the ²⁴⁄₇ one…

I also had the Reuben sandwich… ehh I didn’t really like this one idk I just didn’t like the meat I prefer the turkey.
