After seeing Rincon Chileno featured on «The Best Empanadas In Los Angeles: LAist» by , I felt compelled to drive out for some empanadas before visiting a friend in Los Feliz. These empanadas did not disappoint! I ordered takeout for two: 2 beef, 1 chicken, and 1 spinach+cheese empanada. They were all very flavorful and heated just right! However, I think they forgot to include the green salsa :(. I also purchased their Gloria Passion Fruit Juice. Definitely plan to come back to try the other food on the menu, as the Unilocal pics look yummy.

Quick stop. Good sandwiches. I had the churrasco combo for under $ 10. And picked up some empanadas for the way home.

There is no room for 0 stars, so I reluctantly overrated them with 1. My wife and I are frequently questing to find different cultural food. We have tried everything from Bolivian to Kenyan to Ukranian to Sri Lankan and so many things in between. I can guarantee you that we are no overly sensitive. We both agreed immediately that this was the worst in our long list of cuisine we have tried. And I don’t want to disparage Chilean cuisine, just this horrific dining experience at this particular restaurant. We traveled quite a distance to come there. To start, this is not in the best part of town. That doesn’t ever deter us from an experience, but it should be noted to perspective patrons. We entered a large dining room, with absolutely no patrons. And it stayed this way for the duration our meal which was over one hour(more on that later). When we entered, there was a pleasant elderly man there, who was glad to assist us in getting a high chair for our children. He was a genuinely nice man. We waited a long time, but our server came out and brought us some green chili sauce which wasn’t all bad. They brought us some freshly baked bread which was delicious also. Everything went down hill from there. We waited forever for the waiter to come back, and we were the only customers in this large room. When he did, he recommended two things which we tried. A fish platter and a beef dish. They were both amongst the worst foods I have ever eaten. They must not clean their cooking utensils because even the sautéed onions taste like they were cooked in some pan which hadn’t been washed in days. Almost 36 hours later, I continue to remind my wife that I can’t get the taste of their food out of my mouth. Upon leaving, my wife immediately took out her phone to read the reviews of people who gave this place more than one star. We were flabbergasted that anyone could recommend this place to anyone. This was awful. Please don’t make the mistake of finding out for yourself, and if you do, you have no one to blame but yourself. A couple of odd notes. When we were waiting to leave as our kids had clearly had enough and were getting fussy, the waiter took FOREVER to get the bill. We were STILL the only ones there. I went to the front to ask for the bill and he took another 10 minutes to get it. But here’s the best part, when I asked for the bill, my wife and I and our children were standing by the«register area»(if you could call it that), 30 feet away from our table. Upon requesting our bill, he promptly went and began cleaning our table while our kids fussed and cried, anxious to leave. 10 long minutes later we got our bill and were able to escape this dining purgatory. I truly hope mine was an isolated experience and a bad day, but this review was accurate. I am so sorry to write such a critical review because I was delighted to find Chilean cuisine and know how hard it is to operate restaurants of ethnic cuisine. But people need to know, don’t go here, you will regret it.

Small hole in the wall to to spot(only 1 small table with 4 chairs, a couple counter stools) that hS absolutely delicious empanadas! We randomly popped by mid afternoon and couldn’t resist ordering 2 beef empanadas. They heated them perfectly and offered a helping of their must try green salsa — so refreshing and fresh! The empanada crust is perfectly thin and buttery and stuffing was flavorful and addictive. Also have some delicious Chilean cookies, a very small grocery area, and interesting drinks(like the famous inka cola as well as unique blue corn juice)

The cazuela is amazing. The only thing is that theres 1 server and it takes a while to get things moving. Otherwise the food is good

It’s a good restaurant if you know how to read Chilean. They need an English version menu for people who don’t know Chilean. Service was ok and the food is somewhat good. Prices are a little high for the quality of the food being presented. I will never go their again.

The bombest, most filling beef empanadas in the whole Los Angeles area. Otherwise you have to travel deep in the valley to find chilenos. Chilean empanadas are more succulent than Argentinian and Peruvian combined. Buy 6 and get one free. Cant forget an alfahor which is a cookie with milky caramel goodness inside and then you can Wash that down with an inca cola. You will not be disappointed. Oh ya, don’t forget the peb re sauce for empanada. Similar to salsa/chimichuri. The wait is a bit long at times. The waiter with pointy nose has been there for ages and will set u up nice.

This place is awesome! I spent a month in Chile last year for a study abroad program and I was feeling a little nostalgic, so I decided to look up some Chilean food on Unilocal.I’m so glad I found this place! :) They had all the Chilean bread and food that I enjoyed eating during my time abroad. Plus, the people there are so incredibly friendly, in the spirit of Chilean culture: P. My BF says that the Lomo Saltado is better than Marios, and he’s a chef, so I think that’s saying something. They have different types of empanadas and bread and Chilean snacks. Highly recommend!

Don’t be fooled by the broken sign and not very nice outside because the food is delicious! I just had a churasco with porotos granados today for lunch and mmmm mmm! Delicious! And so cheap! Yeah the restaurant could use a little remodel but ehhhh hopefully the owners get around to it sooner than later. Food and service is delicious!

The food here is delicious. It’s definitely a hole in the wall, but I like that experience sometimes. Feels like I’m in another country for an hour. The main waiter is a very nice guy, it does always seem like he has too much to do and not enough hands. He needs to hire help.

I’ve been coming since I was a baby. My mom use to always pick these empanadas up for special events and they were always a family favorite. When the empanadas craze started a few years ago, this place was still under the radar as it is now, but their quality is always unmatched. These are real country side style Chilean empanadas! They are full of flavor. The large beef empanadas(my favorite) have a hard boiled egg inside. The beef has raisins in it!!! Soooo good. Pastel de choclo is also amazing. It’s a sweet corn meal top(like pie) but the inside is a beef and chicken mixture These remind me of my moms home Chilean cooking. Their sandwiches are great too and I really enjoyed their lunch buffet one day.

Great food. Tastes more like homemade than it does«eating out»…but this is a good thing. I walked in and there was so much that looked good on the menu that I decided to ask the waiter what he recommended. Based on the reviews I’ve seen online, I expected him to say one of the lobo dishes but he surprised me with the chicken casserole(I forgot the Chilean name). It was like a chicken stew with vegetables but I like to eat healthy so I tried it out and oh man, it was better than I expected. I also tried out the tamale and the drink dessert. The tamale was like 2 – 3 times wider than a normal tamale and was good but the casserole won the night. It was very rich in flavor much like an Indian dish yet definitively Latin. It was not spicy but it was served with a green salsa on the side that was moderately spicy. Can’t wait to try the next one. Only quibble is that the rice was a little dry. It was kind of like it was fried a bit after it was cooked or in the warmer a bit too long. It was still edible and not too hard like you typically get when this happens so I’m not sure if it was intentional or not. When I asked for more, the extra rice was exactly the same but reflecting back I think it’s more like it was very lightly fried than that it sat too long in the warmer. There was very little rice in the dish though so either way it was not significant. Will go back and try some other dishes and the empañada too.

Love this place! Went in for some empanadas, walked out buying SEVEN. The spinach and cheese one is so good, as are the chicken empanadas.

Fantastic Empanadas! I was in Santiago Chile for 5 weeks in their Spring 2004. I had an amazing time… besides the kind Chilean people, the mix of the old and new architecture and wine… I remember the food the most! The fruit was like none that I have ever tasted… so ripe, sweet and big. The seafood was fresh amd the empanadas were to die for! Since then, I’ve searched all over and Rincon Chileno is the closest to the real thing. The owner is very sweet and passionate about his food. There is a restaurant attached to the deli as well. My favorite empanada is the cheese… I love to eat them with their green salsa. Also in the deli are a few grocery items such as spices, sauces and dried goods as well as pastries. I have yet to try the pastries(Im trying to be good on my diet) but they look delicious.

The ground beef empanada is my favorite item on their menu. I didn’t like the chicken empanada, it tasted like stewed chicken, which I wasn’t expecting. I would have enjoyed roasted chicken with cheese much better. I like the pastel de choclo, in fact to my taste it is almost identical to many Thanksgiving stuffings I’ve had, corn meal, olives, hard boiled eggs, chicken, beef and raisins.

My friend took me here last night and I had my first Churrasco Sandwich!!! The spot is a hidden gem and the man taking care of the small store/deli is so nice. The empanadas looked incredible also, and the price was around $ 2.75 for a chicken one which is soooooo reasonable. I highly recommend having a lunch or dinner here one day! Oh ya, they also have Inca cola! :)

This is my first time trying Chilean food and it was delicious. By far, the biggest winner was the Pastel de Choclo. The fluffy sweet corn melts in your mouth. With bits of egg, chicken, and olives hidden inside the dish, the meal is winner. Seriously, Unilocalers, this one is the best thing I’ve eaten in a long long time. The second place winner at Rincon Chileno are the empanadas. I ordered the Carne Empanadas. The deliciously spiced meat tasted perfect and the dough was very sweet. I would come here just for the empanadas. They are pretty big portions so one will definitely full you up. Although, I wish I had room for more. This location has a sit down restaurant and a small bakery for takeouts. The bakery/grocery store boasts international wines and South American products, particularly Chilean. For 2 entrees, one empanada, and one Amazing Pastel de Choclo, the total came out to be about 40 dollars. For reasonable prices. The waiter was very nice and patient and overall had a great time here. Parking was a bit tough to find, but hey, its LA!

Hidden gem! Don’t be fool by the location. Very welcoming staff with great food to offer. Stuffed my face so much, took a long nap afterwards. Brought back memories to when I went to Chile! –parking: park behind location, it’s in an alley, right behind location. You can park sideways as well and enter through back door.(It’s pink). No need to worry if you’re gonna get a ticket. Don’t forget to take a pic with the flag. Try their ceviche mixto! And free bread.
