Postcards Central American Soul Food

This truck is amazing. They were at Street Food Cinema in Verdugo Park for Space Jam. I had The Ali and nearly fainted from excitement. This lived up to the hype! The brisket was perfect. The mac n cheese and greens were as delicious as I hoped. The plantains and cilantro sauce were out of this world. The watermelon lemonade was dope!!! One of the best trucks in LA. Thanks Greg!

AMAZINGLY delicious! It’s called a «wrap» but really it’s a burrito. I had the brisket,
mac n cheese and greens. The brisket was so tender and juicy and all of the flavors mixed well. It’s a pretty good size that could possibly be shared by two; but it was so good I ate the entire thing myself!

I ordered the oxtail, red beans & rice w/​greens. This Dish is seasoned well. Not a fan of putting the rice & beans over the greens. I had 75% fat and 25% meat on my oxtails. I was really disappointed.

first-​rate soul food. my favorite is the Ellison, featuring melt-​in-​your mouth oxtail. today they were out of the oxtail, so i went with the Langston: smoky brisket with just the right touch of sweetness. bonus points for the literary-​themed dishes, and for quite possibly the warmest staff of any food truck in LA.

We happened upon this truck while looking for our beloved Monday night Urban Oven. My picky eater child said «This looks promising». She ordered the chicken, dirty rice and mac ‘n’ cheese (can’t remember the names of the dishes as I ordered them by number).My husband and I each got a different brisket dish. All ordered as bowls. Winner winner chicken dinner — best dish of the bunch! The two brisket dishes were WAY too sweet and saucy for my husband and me. The greens break it up a little, but the brisket over powered the entire dish, so we ended up scrapping the dish for dinner and will figure out a way to reconstitute the brisket in another dish. I really wanted to love this truck. The guy working there couldn’t have been nicer. Very warm and welcoming. I’d go back for the chicken.

I tried this food truck a couple of months ago in Grand park in LA. I wasn’t sure what to expect but they had some cool options on the menu. It’s been awhile since I ate there so I can’t figure out the exact name of the main dish I ate. But it consisted of brisket, cornbread, Mac n cheese and I believe greens as well. It was a gut bomb and very tasty. I tried to get a little bit of everything in each bite. I think my favorite part was the cornbread because it was really sweet. For some reason I thought that would not be enough food so I ordered some sweet potato fries as well. They were very crunchy and fresh and I enjoyed the green sauce that came with, it was slightly tangy. The brisket, cornbread, Mac n cheese and greens dish was excellent. The brisket was very tender and smothered in bbq sauce, which was great. Pretty good food truck experience.

Oh my goodness, I just got «The Greatest» which is mac, kale, and brisket with a side of their sweet potato fries with their cilantro sauce. So. Good. I just think I drowned in soul food. In total $ 17 but honestly I think it is worth it. Pricey, but delicious. And when you live really far away from cool food places, this reeeaaallly hits the spot: P

This truck is a one way trip to flavor town in a big way. Got the wrap with brisket, collard greens, beans and dirty rice.
The brisket is ridiculous… tender, soft, flavorful, everything you need brisket to be after too many drinks on a Tuesday night.
I don’t get why people complain about the prices… they are clearly marked and honestly worth the premium. Seriously, for $ 12 I had a phenomenal lunch, no sides needed. I was starving and could barely get through that whole thing.
Only downside was the brisket was so juicy that my wrap started to lose structural integrity by the end. #firstworldproblems

The man attending the food truck was so amiable and personable. He instantly asked if I was familiar with the menu, and when I said no, he gave me a thorough walkthrough of the menu and recommended his personal favorite (a special for that day). I took his offer of his favorite food item. He worked very quickly getting me my food, all the while friendly chatting with me. The meal (I believe it’s called Maya’s special of some sort, with brisket, a cornbread bed and mac n’ cheese) is really quite delicious and it’s a hearty portion. I’m tempted to go out and try their sweet potato fries as well, but I may be too stuffed from this portion. Would definitely try more of their food again!

I like this place because it’s novel and there really isn’t any food truck like it (at least to my knowledge), let alone restaurant. The closest I can think of is Jamaican-​like cuisine. Dirty rice is really good, not too many beans and it’s got a hint of delicious flavor. The greens are great too, just mildly too soggy… I had the oxtail, and at $ 16 I was really hesitant to spend nearly $ 20 off a food truck with no tables — in terms of sauce, it wasn’t the best but in terms of meat, I think it was so well done. Tender, fall off the bone and you know how oxtail is usually a little difficult to eat? Not this one, it’s so smooth and tender it’s actually the BEST oxtail I’ve ever dealt with, no joke. For that alone, it’s worth $ 16. I just wish it had different flavoring as it was a little too salty. Getting the Ellison bowl — which is dirty rice, collard greens and oxtail is good, but it’s all in the oxtail and the rice. As a fan of the greens, however it sogged up the rice a little.

Brisket was perfect.

While planning the 30 year anniversary party for a client, I hired Postcards and two other food trucks.
It was so easy working with Greg, the owner. More than any other vendor I worked with, he really listened to and anticipated my needs and did everything he could to make sure I was able to put on a successful event. Both of the other trucks focused on the money; Postcards focused on the experience. In fact, both of the other trucks ran out of food very early into the event. I didn’t have to worry, however, because Postcards was able to save the day by being well prepared.
I would hire Postcards again for any event. They made me look like a rockstar. My client and all of the employees were absolutely thrilled with Postcards’ wide selection of delicious food (including their sides and drinks) and continued to rave over them for several weeks after the event.

The Greatest
is a roll (burrito) containing brisket, greens & macaroni and cheese. With their sweet potato fries and watermelon drink — $ 21. Ouch. The watermelon drink was flavorful, but could have been larger for $ 4. The sweet potato fries came with a cilantro dipping sauce for $ 5. The burrito being $ 12.
The first few bites of the burrito were oh my God delicious. Then the richness of the mac & cheese starts taking effect, so you move to the sweet potato fries, which helps, but soon they are over the top too, so back to the burrito and back and forth until you pass the fries to somebody, anybody else. The overall richness, heavyness starts to sink in, you reach for that coke — opps, watermelon drink, ahh refreshing sweetness, heavyness, richness and even more nessess.
Yea, it was good, but too much. Probably won’t do it again, but I do believe that I can make it better :)

2^nd visit — shredded ox tail
About 8 oz, ox tail, full of flavor, but the sauce was a tad too sweet, next layer was red beans and rice, which was undercooked, then some collard greens, which were perfect. With water the total was $ 20.
When you look at the picture, please realize that it is a 6″ square box — I know the picture is deceiving.
Bottom line, NOT worth $ 20, not repeating this mistake again. Food might be a 3 star, price takes it to a 2 star.

Got an email from the owner, informing me that nothing cost $ 20, that the oxtail was only $ 12 and that I must have gotten something else AND what was in the picture was not ox tail.
My response: Per the write up (above), I got water & ox tail for my order, I got no change for my $ 20 from your Mom. Therefore, it cost me $ 20. If I was handed the wrong thing — again, not my fault. Crunchy rice & cloyingly sweet — not my fault either. I’m out.

When I walk up to the window of the Postcards truck, I am asked which of my 2 favorites to I want that day. I can never decide because the food is so good. It is the first place I had ever eaten Kale or Oxtails, which both blew my mind! Amazing food!

As a television consumers, you have your right to your opinion and to express it based on what you have perceived. Based on some comments I have read here, your experience of Postcards has been based on what the producers of the GFTR wanted you to see. Let me tell you about integrity. Postcards provides a healthy and delicious product. Soul Food (the food on which I was raised) can be stereotypically unhealthy, containing large quantities of sodium and fatty meats. (I will not prolong my post with the history of the African American experience in the country and how the African slave trade affected what ‘foods’ were available for consumption by (read: thrown away to eaten by) my ancestors. Anyway, Greg King and Postcards ensures that the food they serve is of the highest quality and very healthy for their consumers. Most food trucks serve ‘comfort food’ that is EXPECTED to be less than healthy, because that is part of the fun and enjoyment. With Postcards, you experience the fun (great people) and comfort (healthy and filling food). That equals integrity. Furthermore, Greg nor his staff would NEVER hit someone’s car and bail. AND if we are wearing our thinking caps, NEITHER would a major television network! That’s TV drama to keep you tuned in. Oy Vey! Anyway, when in Los Angeles, find Postcards location on social media; try the food and experience the staff. You will feel like you are eating with family!

For those of you basing your reviews not on the food, service, or actual product, but on what you’re seeing on TV, PLEASE remember, it’s a TV show — a heavily edited TV show that needs ratings to survive. What you’re doing is unfair — take a step back and remember that the Great Food Truck Race is a competition geared for entertainment. Drama brings ratings. If you want drama, then you should probably stick to trashy reality TV, not a food truck competition. Postcards is about the food, not the drama. And for the record, hitting the car with the truck was an accident and Greg and his team would’ve made the owner whole for the damage. To somehow assume he’s not a man of character or integrity based on that situation is so damn short-​sighted and ignorant…
Anyhoo, I’ve known about Postcards through a friend so I was super excited to see them get such great exposure on TV. To call their food amazing is an understatement.
The concept of soul food fused with Central American flavors is genius! Greg and his team are true professionals who put their heart and soul into every single dish they serve. Their sweet potato fries are amazing and honey, let me tell you the mac & cheese and greens are the real deal!
I look forward to Food Truck Fridays when I know the Postcards truck will be in the house cuz a gal needs her fix! Love these guys and every single thing they represent. Postcards for the win!!!

Postcards produce some of the best food ever, «The Greatest Wrap «is awesome. … The quality of the food, shows that it was prepared with love & no short cutting. … I will support «Postcards «til the end of time. We saw the truck at a brewery in downtown LA, so we decided to give it a try. It was delicious and Greg inside the truck was the nicest person to talk with! Great food and friendly service make this a food truck to remember.
First we had The Greatest with brisket, it was like something I would make at home while watching Cheech and Chong movies. Mac and Cheese, Kale, and brisket in a tortilla… Munchie heaven! The brisket was delicious and super juicy… Too juicy actually, it made the tortilla extremely soggy. I wouldn’t order it as a wrap next time, the bowl would be a better option.
Next we had the corn fritter with chicken. Amazing! The chicken was spiced to perfection and so tender, but the best part was the corn fritter itself. I could eat just the fritter part by itself and be completely happy!
Finally we had the sweet potato fries. We ordered them extra crispy and I’m glad we did. I’m normally not a fan of sweet potato fries, but these were out of this world! I have never had sweet potato fries as delicious as these. Perhaps it was the crispness that made them so good, whatever they were battered in was incredibly tasty. I would definitely order them again…

Wasnt planning on eating here but after hearing their «healthy soul food» slogan, I was intrigued. The people here were just wonderful. Super friendly and all about explaining their take on healthy soul food. My friend and I ended up ordering some tacos and sweet potato fries.
And wow these tacos were good. They were made up of some type of meat and greens combination. If this is what healthy soul food taste like, then count me in. These little tacos packed a lot of flavor and instantly made me want to try the other food items on their menu. Their sweet potato fries were great as well. Prefectly crispy and flavorful. I will return.

What the hell… Disgusting. Nasty. Gross. Different, NOT in a good way, obviously. I’m debating whether or not I should give this to homeless person. LOL might not want to put them through this. PASS.
W h y am I required to write MORE? Lol. If I ain’t got nada good to say, I shall speak not, but because I love my fellow Unilocalers, I must warn them! Mac & Cheese is hard to mess up! How did they manage to do it? The seasoning is straight poison, not the kind that’s alluring and taste good either.
