The Pickford Center For Motion Picture Study is located at 1313 Vine St in central Hollywood. It is one of a few facilities of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. It was named in honor of a legend Mary Pickford. Her name graces the building and is one of the most beautiful things I first saw when arriving. I often worry that newer generations wont know about Mary Pickford or Douglas Fairbanks Dr. or D. W Griffith etc etc. Seeing her name on this building gives me hope that when someone who has never heard of Mary that when they see her name on the building they stop and think«hmmm maybe I should google her». Hollywood is rich in history and if it were not for Mary, Douglas, D. W, Cecil, Jesse, Charlie etc we might very well not enjoy the movies the way we do today. Mary Pickford was one of the founding members of the Academy. the Academy Film Archive is home to one of the most diverse and extensive motion picture collections in the world, including the personal collections of such filmmakers as Alfred Hitchcock, Cecil B. DeMille, George Stevens, Fred Zinnemann, Sam Peckinpah and Jim Jarmusch. In addition to the 286-seat Linwood Dunn Theater where numerous public events are presented throughout the year, the building houses several Academy departments. The building, originally dedicated on August 18, 1948, is the oldest surviving structure in Hollywood that was designed specifically with television in mind. Free parking is available at the rear of the building(entrance off of Homewood Avenue) Call or check their website for showings and special events before just showing up. (310) 247‑3016 extension 3380
