OBO Burger. Weird name. Good burgers and fries. A friend and I came to OBO Burger seemingly on accident. We were trying to go to a different restaurant but when we saw parking in the OBO Burger lot we just decided to eat there. There was one other person besides us in the joint and it seemed like a slow night. We got a Mad Obo and a Pepper Jack Burger with regular and sweet potato fries. Both the burgers were cooked to perfection and I loved the salad lettuce that they used. The fries were also well fried and extremely hot. They forget our order of sweet potato fries so we got a free order which was nice. I always seem to take advantage of all the fatty mess ups. I would have given a perfect review if the burger patty itself was a bit bigger, but I guess I’m still on the search for a burger better than Father’s Office. I heard that OBO Burger was closing down two days after I went. That’s too bad. I was trying to make OBO Burger one of my new spots too… Sigh…

My advice: skip Umami and head across the street to Obo Burger. Ok, so maybe they’re not as «gourmet» as Umami, but the Turkey Tamarind is HANDSDOWN the best turkey burger I have ever had. Nevermind the smell of weed wafting over from the medical marijuana shop next door, it only enhances the taste of the delicious chili-cheese fries. Oh and if you’re at Little Bar having a beer, they will deliver!

Here’s the great thing about OBO Burger: you can skip the(typically) long line next door at Umami(which, yeah, fine: Umami is awesome), and get an excellent burger, sweet potato fries and a shake, all for less than what a single Umami burger will cost/set you back. The staff is always friendly(jury’s out on whether or not that has anything to do with OBO’s proximity to a medical marijuana shop…), and they seem to be genuinely excited about making good food. Definitely a nice addition to the Miracle Mile area, and my new go-to place when I don’t have the time or budget for Umami.

I was totally impressed with this place. They have great prices and awesome food. Sweet Potato Fries are so thick and soft… Down Right, Delicious! Plus the have plenty of vegetarian options. I got the Veggie Burger, I wish I had a stomach big enough to finish it… Off The Chain! They did screw up, I ordered no mayo on my burger and they put it on, but mistakes happen. I wiped it off and the burger was still completely unreal… Fan-Freaking-Tastic! I am coming back again, for sure.

Painful parking situation after 7PM in the area made for a bad experience. The Pepper jack burget itself was delicious, but Juicy burger is definitely better. The tables had a strange gloss so they felt sticky even though they were clean. No need to comeback unless you’re in the area. Skip this place.

Came to OBO burger to grab a quick lunch with friends. Located in a tiny shopping plaza off La Brea — very easy to miss! I ordered the Turkeyburger($ 5) — a nice sized burger dressed with provolone cheese, mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomato. Great flavors and generous portions. My friend ordered the Fried Fish Sandwich($ 6.25) — crispy beer-battered fish topped with tartar sauce, hot sauce, lettuce, tomato. She seemed to enjoy her deep fried fish sandwich too :) Local joint — friendly service… a little chaotic due to the size of the place. Only a few parking spots… and a couple of tables… but clean + friendly. Nice spot for a quick bite!

I’ve been on a burger crave lately so decided to give OBO a try. While I see quite a few reviewers comparing it to its close by neighbor Umami, I think that OBO and Umami serve a different type of burger. OBO does not serve anything fancy like Umami… do you expect truffle? foie gras? you won’t find it here. They have the basic burgers and then some specialty burgers. I think the prices are fair and I would actually compare this to 5 Guys — the prices for a cheeseburger at either location are about the same. Instead of the basic, we opted for the specialty burgers: mad obo and bacon blue. I’m not even a big fan of blue cheese but decided to take the risk because I do love me some bacon. And what do you know? The blue cheese was NOT overwhelming and paired really well with the bacon and the burger. I loved this burger and will definitely get this again. The boyfriend had the mad obo, which I thought was ok but I definitely enjoyed my bacon blue more. The onions in the mad obo were a bit too much for me but the boyfriend enjoyed he(he’s an onion in a burger guy and I am not). Unfortunately they did not have sweet potato fries so we got regular fries and they were actually pretty good. I will be back to get my bacon blue burger and hopefully they’ll have some sweet potato fries for me to pair it with. Yum.

Walked and then in 20 seconds took my family out! The place stunk like pot! Their explanation? The place next door that dispense marijuana seeps though the walls. Not true. Before OBO burger at the same place was NYBBQ which I frequented. They never ever had this problem.

I love this burger joint. it use to be a BBQ spot and has been completely renovated. I have dined in and had the delivery. I must say the delivery food comes smoking hot so my lazy bum usually order delivery. The Mad OBO burger is excellent and I have them make mine with the jack cheese and extra OBO sauce. I could coat everything in that OBO sauce. In my opinion it is not as greasy as the Umami burger and a lot easier on the pocketbook. Also the burgers can be made as a salad… so if your on a diet SCORE!

OBO Burger you rock my world. I had the pepper jack stuffed burger and this just took me back to a back yard bbq. You aren’t trying to be too complex and it shows in the quality of the burger. I wasn’t too fond of the sweet potato fries, but they weren’t horrible. I will definitely be back for another burger. Great pricing too!

good burger, good fries for less than $ 10 with super friendly staff! The only thing I don’t like about this place is that they don’t have a bathroom! UPDATE: WTF! they’re closed now. I’ll def. miss their yummy fries and burgers :(

Just wish this place is a little bigger… I came here for lunch and ordered a cheeseburger(5) The combo came with a choice of fries or a salad for $ 2.50 more including a drink. This burger joint is very clean and well lit. While waiting for the food, you also have magazines to read. great place for quick grab and back to work.

This place used to be a small rib joint and I thought it had re-opened as a new rib joint. Nope, it’s another hip burger spot. I hit them up on a Sunday afternoon. I didn’t get the signature OBO Burger but I tried the fried Fish Sandwich which was really good. I was surprised to see such an offering on the menu, not many places do fried fish unless«fried» or «seafood» is somewhere on the signage outside which is usually in the hood somewhere. The fish was nice and tender and seasoned with a perfect crunch to the bite. They need to put menu boards up inside the joint, but I would stop in again if in the area.

Really? Better than Umami burger? This sounds like a challenge. I accepted, and I’m pleased to announce the winner, by knockout is… Umami. The burger at umami? more tender and flavorful. The balance of burger to cheese to toppings is spot on. I get more food per dollar here, but this is the catch: at Umami, I finish my burger and I want more. At OBO, I finish my burger and wish I hadn’t. The fries at Umami might have been nothing special, but the fries at OBO tasted a little burnt. I couldn’t even bring myself to finish them.

I went with some friends who love this place. I wasn’t even hungry, but I went along just to hang out and have something to drink while they ate. Well, I saw how good the burgers looked, I had to have one. I had a turkey burger. It was nice and juicy, not dry like turkey burgers tend to be. Anyway, everyone’s food was great. I went on a Saturday night and there was no line at all. So if you don’t want to wait, go then. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because they don’t have a bathroom for customers. The owner said they’ll get one when they expand. I think you’ll enjoy eating there. It’s the best burger in the area in my opinion. By the way, the salads look really good too!

I’ll make a few quick points as to not belabor my rating. — Most importantly: disorganized as a motherfucka! — Ran out of buns. How does a freaking burger joint run out of buns?! — Waited over an hour for two stupid burgers that sucked. — Other people walked out on this place because of the bad bad bad(yes, three bads) service — My veggie burger in no way bares any resemblance to the veggie burger in the Unilocal picture, seriously it was disgusting. The patty was a joke, its like they took a bunch of vegetable scraps and mushed them together, binding the mass with a mere wish… needles to say it fell apart. I should have saved myself the chewing and composted the barely cooked vegetation. — Cardinal sin: They forgot my avocado! — Umami Burger is the most mentioned phrase in all of the other shitty reviews(smack talkers! — pshaw!) Do yourself a favor and go there, you may pay a little more, but I think you’ll be happier with your investment. –Honestly, the best thing about this place was the comfortable chairs. You’ll need them if you plan to wait the ungodly amount of time it takes to get your«food» Look, I hate writing bad reviews but I could not let OBO(whatever the hell that is) off the hook… It was a supernaturally bad experience… it was so bad it was funny! hah hahahahhahaha hahaha ha! seriously, it sucked.

This is a fantastic burger. Located in the corner of an unassuming(and perhaps a bit downtrodden) strip-mall, is a true gem. No pretensions here, no real atmosphere to speak of. Everything is very simple. But the burgers are phenomenal. Great combination and, more importantly, ratio of cheese to meat to bun to toppings. It’s big enough that it feels like it’s going to fall apart, but sturdy enough that it doesn’t. I also got the sweet potato fries, which were ok, but not great. The shakes look great too, but like an idiot(and trying not to pig out too much) I stuck with regular soda.

one of the most delicious veggie burgers i’ve ever had. The patty is home-made, moist, and actually full of all kinds of healthy items. The bread was soft and delicious. Got a drink, a side, and the burger combo for around $ 10. The staff was super friendly. They have free WIFI. and they also had some coloring books which my nephew highly enjoyed…

Yes, Umami is right across the street. Feel free to wait an hour and pay twice the price if that’s your thing. Obo Burger was a surprise and without having tasted it I never would have known. I thought their menu and other reviews made them sound generic and dull and the pictures on their website didn’t really make me want to try them out any more than anything I’d read. As luck would have it, our burger crew tried them out last weekend. I really enjoyed my burger. All of the flavors of the toppings came out in every bite. They were well distributed and good quality. The burger was juicy and flavorful. Probably too juicy, it kind of annihilated my bun. That is really my only complaint… the bun was nice, but I didn’t think it was right for the burger I had because it was soft and the juices just made it softer. I opted for the salad rather than the fries because I prefer the crisp McDonald’s kind of fries, not the ones that taste like they’re made out of fresh potatoes. If you’re into that sort of thing, you’ll like the fries. Why you should go here instead of Umami across the street: — Value: You get a burger, a side(fries or salad) and a drink for $ 10. — Parking: It’s not a big lot, but it’s still a lot. — Speed: Small crowds means no wait. — Customization: Nobody will tell you that you must have your burger the way it is listed on the menu and that is your only option. — Crowd: First off it was small. Second off, I didn’t feel like I was at a hipster convention.

Miracle Mile is practically burger heaven… We have Fatburger, Umami, the Counter, and Golden State in one corner and McDonalds, Carls Jr, and Burger King in another corner. OBO Burger is the newest contender in the ring AND located right across Umami?! Seriously? Seriously! Food: Decent portions and tasty food. Try their signature Mad Obo Burger(good hot sauce) and the Nutty Obo(subtle peanut sauce). The fries are thick cut and the potato buns are soft(baked fresh daily). Price: You can’t beat it! $ 10-$ 13 for a burger, fries, and drink. Location: Well… outside, you have a medical marijuana dispensary. Meh. Inside, it is clean and inviting. Service: Cool Verdict: It doesn’t taste anything like Umami or the Counter so you should definitely give it a try. Switch it up a bit.
