BESTGOATSTEWINKTOWN. Mirak 2 is very similar to Mirak 1(which is also in k-town), but the second location is A LOT bigger, so I recommend going to Mirak 2 if you’re going with a big group. Even though Mirak 2 is pretty new, don’t expect anything NEWLYRENNOVATED or modern. Mirak is more of a hole-in-a-wall type of Korean restaurant that has a home-y«eating at grandma’s house» vibe. The crowd is mostly older generation, or Korean fobs. I usually go with a big group of people and these are my favorite items on the menu: BLACKGOATMEATSTEW: They start at serving size for 1 and you can add more serving to accommodate your party. The food is A LOT so I do not recommend order 1 serving per person then you’ll end up with a lot of leftover food, especially because they make you the bomb fried rice after you are done with the stew! The black goat meat stew is a spicy soup with most part goat meat and Perilla Leaf(kket-nip). The pairing of the meat and the leaf are SOGOOD. Omg. So good. 5⁄5 If you don’t want anything soup-y, you can get the black goat meat on the iron plate instead. This is exactly like the Meat stew, except without the soup; However, you can actually ask for the soup on the side and pour it over the iron to however you like. With the Iron Plate, on top of everything in the stew, they also include the noodles and rice cakes. The Iron Plate serving size starts at 2 minimum, and you many also add more servings as you’d like. 5⁄5 Another popular and good plate is the Seasoned duck meat. They cook the duck meat and bring it out to you ready-to-eat. The quality is good and usually on point. 4⁄5 Their menu is not that big. I mean, this is a black goat meat specialty restaurant, so If you’re not getting goat meat, then go somewhere else hahaha

Bad business principles. bought tickets to the«one day restaurant» event which was for lunch on two specific days. for most people who work, its impossible to go at lunch. but the money for the tics goes to charity so at least its for a good cause… I asked that same day if I could come in and use the tics later the same day. they rudely said no. its already over. and i said… so … theres no way for me to use the tics I paid for, at all??? And she said no. and hung up. if they really cared about my business or their own reputation they would not burn bridges so easily without alternative… they could have done some type of restriction to accomodate, like I would be happy to go in on a weekendfor lunch… or even better, they could have said just come in tonight and pay the difference between lunch and dinner… or even better just accept it like BCD did last year after the fact. but nope they would rather lose me and my whole extended families for the cost of 3 soups that esentially were already over-paid for… such a shame since I frequented this place and never got amazing service but it was tolerable… never going back. very very disappointing!

If you been to the original Mirak on Western, you will taste the difference. Goat stew is definitely lacking in flavor, meat seems a little tougher, and fried rice at the end is hugely disappointing. Fried rice was always my happy ending to finish off a great goat stew, but not in this case. Place seems cleaner but I care about the food. Mirak 1, how I want you back. See you soon~

Don’t even bother going here if you don’t speak Korean! I’ve had one of the worse experiences here with my friend last night. We stumbled upon the restaurant since we wanted to grab something to eat prior to going to Hugh spa upstairs. We checked out the menu and since I don’t eat goat meat I was a little put off that the menu consists mainly of goat, but there were some other meat options such as duck, chicken, and beef. Since my friend wanted to try goat we decided to stay and give this place a try. We placed our order for a chicken and goat entrée but quickly decided that we wanted to try the duck entrée instead since the patrons sitting next to us recommended it. We cancelled our initial orders with the waitress and placed the order for the duck entrée for $ 18.99. When our food arrived our waitress started cooking it for us in the grill, but she quickly left and that left us wondering if we should continue letting the meat cook. Since we weren’t familiar with cooking duck we let it cook but the whole thing started burning so we quickly turned off the grill. Although, a portion of the meat was already overcooked and burnt by this time. She repeated the same thing afterwards with the kimchi fried rice at the end, leaving us to handle the grill on our own. The food overall was underwhelming. The duck was overly greasy and there was so much oil it started to splatter all over us and tasted super heavy. I didn’t think the meat was well seasoned but maybe it was because it became burnt and tough after letting it sit for too long in the oil. Additionally, my friend found a piece of hair in her food and they give you refills on the banchan but not for the steamed egg(+$ 2). The most infuriating part of our meal was at the end when we got our check. We noticed they charged us almost $ 42 yet the duck entrée we shared was listed as $ 18.99 on the menu. We attempted to argue with the waitress but since she spoke little English we couldn’t understand much of what she was saying except she pointed out that they charged us twice because the menu states the duck is $ 18.99PER person. Although, there was nowhere on the menu that states this in ENGLISH, even though if it was stated in Korean, neither of us can read Korean and the waitress never once explained that to us upon ordering. Since we didn’t want to continue wasting our time arguing with the language barrier we just paid the bill and left. I would not return to this restaurant since they seem to be understaffed and nobody can speak fluent English so you don’t know what they are even charging you on the bill. They could have overcharged us for all we know.

Highlights + Cheap Lunch Prices + Speedy — Flavor I feel that the Unilocal rating of 4.5 is either bought or falsified as I can’t really see how it could be so high. I went there for lunch at noon and there was only 1 other party who were rather rambunctious and stormed out after an altercation between them. But that’s beyond the point. I got the goat soup(Lunch Special) which took less than 5 minutes to come out which was a plus. However the soup itself was pretty bland and reminiscent of something from a food court or a cafeteria rather than a 4.5 rated restaurant.

The best goat soup in ktown. The sad part of you come by yourself is you can’t do the big pot. I recommend ordering the large pot to share, at the end, the ladies come and stir fry your rice for you with the soup and yummy fixings! Highly recommend. For anyone apprehensive about eating goat, try it and google the health benefits.

We went expecting Korean BBQ type food, but when I saw the dinner menu of SIX items, all involving goat meat, I got excited, thinking«this place must do one thing and do it WELL.» And it does! The meat was tender and well-marinated, the veggies and herbs were fresh, the stew broth was flavorful, and the rice afterwards was delicious. It was just hard to finish because it was generous and filling. Great with a beer.

Mirak 2 is similar to the other one on Western, but with less options. I called to make a reservation and the waitress made sure that I was aware it’s a spot for goat. No beef. There is even a photo on Unilocal from a while back that has pigs feet, but not even that is on the menu now. The food was as good as the one on Western but the service was awful – the waitresses acted annoyed to serve you, whereas the one on Western gladly welcomes the younger crowd. The star dish of Mirak 2 was the seasoned duck. You can either BBQ it yourself on the grill or they can cook it for you in the back. Just have them cook it and bring it out already fried up with leeks, garlic and sweet potato(?). The GOATONIRONPLATE was also good, not too gamey especially if you dip it in the sauce concoction(make sure they give it to you! They forgot and I showed them the Unilocal pic of the sauce and they immediately brought it over). There are also a lot of veggies, rice cakes and noodles in the dish! For the goat on iron plate, order one serving size down based on their recommendations. If they tell you to order 3 servings based on the size of your party, just order 2 servings. It’s a lot of food and comes with fried rice at the end. Do not get the iron plate dish mixed up with the stew. The stew doesn’t come with the fried rice at the end.

Pretty good soup for lunch. It’s only $ 7.99 for the bowl and tastes great! Plenty of parking and pretty spacious inside. Very quiet and low key. This is one of many chains and this one is pretty good too. Usually I order the big stew but did the small one for lunch and it tasted just as good!

I ordered the duck BBQ based on other reviews, and was surprised to find it entirely underwhelming. For $ 20 in Koreatown, I would have expected a lot better. The duck was not marinated, and hardly tasted seasoned at all. The fat on the duck was not at all seared, so each piece was kind of pale and flabby. I also managed to finish all of it comfortably in one sitting, so the portion size was also meh. I would not recommend the duck BBQ. I might come back to try to goat stew, but it ain’t lookin likely anytime soon.

Hidden gem. The duck BBQ is EXTREMELY delicious. No gamey taste at all and at the end, they fry Kimchi fried rice directly on the grill. The goat stew is good as well, but if you don’t like gamey flavor, it’s not for you. Free parking, never crowded, fast service.

This restaurant might as well put up a sign that says ‘only Korean-speaking customers’ to make everyone’s life easier because they clearly have no interest in serving their English-speaking customers. It was impossible for us to get water and the waitress also refused to get me a separate plate of sauce with no mustard. Two stars for the reasonably priced and mediocre food they served.

If you like real Korean food come and get the goat stew and the fried rice. Really good foods and excellent service. I actually can’t speak enough about the service, and that’s what puts them at five star the last barely spoke English but she was very confident and took care of us very good. The kimshi is amazing and they bring out like 5 different kinds. Awesome place I would def recommend

BESTBESTBEST goat meat stew ever I ate! I don’t eat goat meat stew since my first experience was horrible. It smelled really bad and it was too spicy(not from this place, my first experience was different place). So when I came here with my bf, I ordered duck bbq, and my fiancé ordered black goat meat stew. Guess what! After I tried once, couldn’t stop eating goat meat stew. Duck bbq was very good, but the stew was AMAZING. From korean TVs, I’ve heard too many good things about black goat stew, so this place became one of my favorite korean restaurants! After eating the stew, they make fried rice on the same pot. So, the amount of food was way more than for two people. If you haven’t tried this place, please go and try it! :) Also, the best part about this restaurant= no waitings for most of the times. Now days, I try not to go to Korean restaurants on the weekends since most places are PACKED and wait lines are ridiculous. But I’d be so happy to come here everytime whenever I crave korean bbq. Their DUCK bbq was also delicious, but the slice was too thick compared to where I usually eat duck bbq. Overall, definitely hidden gem! price= 5⁄5 reasonable price(Goat Stew was $ 14.99 per person, no minimum order yay!) service= 5⁄5 very friendly staffs atmosphere= 5⁄5 traditional korean restaurant parking= 4⁄5 can be crowded but never had issue to find a parking.

Walk up to any dude with a handle bar mustache and ask about Korean food and He will disseminate more info than Ron Jeremy’s junk. I get it… you love and had Korean food Many Many Many times. But have you had a Korean Goat? That’s right, Korean Goat. The meat is steamed and used as a SSAM and the bones are cooked as a soup table side. Its gamy, its herbal, spicy, Think Gamjatang Grizzly Adams style. Been to few goat joints in my day and I say Mirak does it the best. Happy eating — R

Goat meat stew jungol, FTW!!! 2 servings min for the jungol and its plenty for like 4ppl. They bring the pot with already cooked meat, with veggies and clear glass noodles in there. You just boil and cook! They make fried rice afterwards. So flavorful and such a hardy meal! Barely any wait. First Mirak has a long wait but thank goodness this place is too new for the long wait! Double yayyyy!!!

Same delicious goat in a newer, more expansive location! Tried the duck and pork here as well. Not gamey at all~ I copied and pasted my review for the original location below: Mmmmmmmmmmmm goat meat. It’s purported to be good for women’s health(complexion, PMS, libido), but I go for the taste. I love the tangy sauce with the perrilla/sesame seeds. I get a thrill when mixing it altogether with my chopsticks. Kind of how I feel at Zankou when I’m stirring the hummus. Come with 3 – 4 people, order the small jun-gol for 2 people. Yooksoo(broth) is free, but you can order extra servings if you need more meat and veggies. Save room for fried rice at the end! I like to mix the sauce into my rice too~ As a sauce whore, I practice safe eating by always using condiments. I’m a big fan of gget-nip(perrilla leaves) so the yumso-tang(goat stew) really hits the spot. The meat itself is similar to jangjorim(braised beef brisket) in texture. The gget-nip and the seeds give the stew a pungent herbal taste that’s great for cold rainy weather. You can ask for mild to spicy when you order.

Mom and pop stop if you’re in the hankering for goat. We had the goat stew(Yumso Muchim), which was sort of sauteed with water parsley(minari) and served on a plate to eat with rice. It was rich and flavorful, but never overpowering with the gamey-ness of goat. It wasn’t too heavy at all, and the goat meat was perfectly cooked. There’s also an awesome dipping sauce, which seemed to have chili paste, mustard, and sesame oil. It was perfect to counterbalance the goat and minari. We also had the pork belly plate, which came out perfectly grilled and served with a light salad. Service was stellar, and so friendly. Food came out quickly, and was delicious. Not your run of the mill Ktown bbq joint, but I can see why they’re so popular!

Known for their goat and duck dishes, hubby and I decided to try this place out since he loves both. Probably more a 4 star, but since the service was good… I’m giving it 5 stars. We tried a goat dish(yumso muchim), and it was a platter of well cooked goat mixed with spices and lots of water parsley(minari) that I happen to love. It was tender and full of flavor, and the water parsley was a great way to balance the heaviness and gamey-ness of the goat. In case you wanted extra seasoning, they give you a dipping sauce that has red chili paste, mustard and wild sesame. For our main entrée, we had the duck stew(ori jungor) cooked at your table, and this was enough for 3 – 4 people, it was huge! Lots of spice and also perilla leaves, water parsley and chives go into the stew. The soup was very different from the typical korean stews, although this was my first time eating this, so I have very little to compare to. The stew is very heavy, and it is pretty oily. I was skimming oil atop the stew throughout our meal, although who am I kidding, it was loaded with duck fat, and duck fat makes everything better, right? Meat was a bit fatty but super tasty. At the end, the lady fries the rice for you in the leftover stew, and it is da bomb! it’s with nori, rice, some greens, and when it gets crusty on the bottom… total party in your mouth. Really, is there any fried rice that isn’t tasty? But again, maybe it’s the duck fat that makes it extra delicious. Or the shots of soju we had throughout our meal. Either way, perfect way to end the meal. Service was excellent, although it was busy on a Sunday night. There were only two servers for the whole restaurant, but we were very well taken care of. Towards the end, an older lady came out to thank us for coming, and she was super sweet. I think she might have been the owner. In a little strip mall across from the police station. Plenty of parking on a Sunday night, and seeing the huge«police» sign across the street made me feel very safe eating there. A great way to try goat and duck dishes, Korean style. Definitely not for everyone, but recommend for the adventurous eater not afraid of little oil and fat. Enjoy!
