What some don’t realize about this place is that, in Los Angeles at least, digital art is judged suspicious(did a smartphone app do that?) and for the most part doesn’t sell. Rex HAS to charge in order to remain in business. He is a pioneer for a «cutting edge»(as it’s perceived by some) way of producing art and is the only gallerist in L.A. who is fully behind digital work. I thank him and am grateful he is doing something he truly believes in. A well-known curator told me «think of LACDA as being a kinder, gentler Gallery 825.» He’s right. If you enjoy or do digital work, this is the place to be. And if you’re unsatisfied with the quality of the print, just say so. He’ll work with you. Couldn’t recommend this gallery higher.

As a former gallery owner myself, I find that Rex Bruce of LACDA has contributed a great deal to the DTLA art scene. HIs regular exhibits consistently offer something new and fresh in the digital realm, and his open-call shows give opportunities to young emerging artists who would never be seen otherwise. This is always a must-see for me every Second Thursday Art walk !

This is perhaps the best gallery in Los Angeles to «get your feet wet» as an exhibiting artist. The overflow crowds at this central spot of the Los Angeles Downtown ArtWalk are the envy of most galleries in town. When you show art here, this is one place in Los Angeles that it is guaranteed THOUSANDS of people will see your art. I have been in the art world thirty years and regularly suggest LACDA as a place for artists to have their first«success experiences» and learn the ropes. Anyone who tells an artist«Don’t Pay to Play» probably advises artists to pay 50 grand for art school so don’t listen to the naysayers. Many art shows with entrance fees are in out of the way places with no foot traffic. LACDA is central to the Downtown L.A. «Gallery Row» and is visited by more people in one month than many established galleries. (Mat Gleason, Coagula)

I agree with the previous review – the guy who runs this place is horrible and the«gallery» is a total scam! They invite you to be in a show, but the catch is that you have to pay for them to make a print. I had a beautiful framed print but they wouldn’t let me use it, forcing me to use the one they made. It had major banding issues, and the color was terrible. They just pin all these crappy prints to the wall, and they don’t even hang them up straight. It cost me a hundred dollars. Well, never again! What’s worse – they don’t seem to clean their bathroom. It looks and smells putrid. Yuck. Steer clear of this hole!
