For urban art, this space is combines the prerequisite raw industrial space and adds a massive outdoor rooftop where there are more(larger walls to adorn with art.) From there you overlook the street which, at night, looks eery and is close to the old days of the Meatpacking District of New York. The largest and almost most prestigious walls of LALA Gallery are the outside walls which stretch way above the streets and wrap the corner of Willow St and Sante Fe. When we approach LALA Gallery you get that«I’ve arrived» feeling. The entrance is a small doorway up a ramp and past a loading dock. The stairwell on the public opening night was covered in Obey from 1st Fl to 2nd Fl. I think Cryptik was on 2nd Fl up for half a floor. Looking forward to seeing more shows at this space and checking out the Villans Tavern across the street which is a neighborhood favorite. This area is starting to heat up with a new(boutique) coffee joint on Willow and Mateo, but before the gallery opening I had no reason to wander over here.
