LA West Elite Event Chi’s Chinese in The Valley

This was a great event. I knew that this restaurant had been around for a long time, and this event was a great excuse to get familiar with everything Chi’s has to offer. Dumplings are really good, authentic northern style. «Spicy» Pizza not very spicy, but still delicious; a scallion pancake with peanut sauce chicken and carrots. Salad was slightly over dressed, otherwise delicious, it’s seasonal, onions could be chopped smaller if I’m betting hyper critical, really though I’m nit picking because this place should be held to a higher standard, the food is really phenomenal.
Another great Unilocal event that has re-​introduced me to a place that will be in my rotation going forward. Thanks Unilocal

This event has to be in my top 5 of Elite Events. I love finding gems in our community with great food and service.
Chi’s Chinese just went under some renovations and the interior looks beautiful and modern. I love their pretty fish tank as you enter the restaurant.
Chi and her son, Marco, were so generous and very nice. They came around and introduced themselves and talked a bit about the restaurant. Let me tell you, the food and wine was never ending. My favorites were the Garlic Fried Rice, Shanghai Dumplings, Steamed Sole and Walnut Shrimp. We tried 15 different dishes… and they all were delicious! They also have a nice list of specialty green teas. There was so much food left over, that we even took home to-​go boxes.
Great event to get to know the owners of local business. On a side note, they serve dim sum to order, all day! I will definitely be coming back!

I’ve never left a Unilocal event so stuffed before! You had to roll me out of that restaurant. There was so much great food available. I love that this event was in the valley because there aren’t many Unilocal events close to home.
At first when we saw the menu, we thought we were going to have to choose what we wanted from it, but nope, we were able to try the whole menu that had a whopping 15 items on it. The table was filled with food.
My favorites were the Garlic Fried Rice, the Shrimp Rolls, and the Walnut Shrimp. Didn’t get to try the Chi’s Pizza because I’m allergic to peanuts, but I heard that was a favorite as well. The staff was very friendly, and welcoming, and so were the owners. All that great food was paired with a glass of Chardonnay. Left so stuffed, and even got to take home leftovers. On top of that I left with a $ 25 dollar gift card for picking up a marble with chopsticks for 5 seconds. What more can you ask for? What a great night, will definitely come back with my family. Found my new favorite Chinese restaurant in the valley!

If it gets any better than this, I don’t know if I can handle it…
Thank you Christopher C. for posting your open plus 1 spot to this LA West Elite Event at Chi’s Chinese in The Valley event. Such a pleasure to meet you in person, as well as the infamous Brittney B. Many thanks to Chris for recommending Chi’s, Brittney B. and Genna for collaborating with the Chi family to create a fun upbeat atmosphere with the best of the best Chinese food menu items I’ve ever eaten. My mouth was definitely doing the happy dance, heck, it didn’t stop for days.
Some of my favorite dishes include the chicken pizza with peanut sauce, which made my taste buds scream for more, Mango and candied walnut salad, come on, who doesn’t love candy in any way shape or form, and the sautéed string beans were cooked to perfection, like everything else. Out of the 15 different dishes that were perfectly presented to our tables, I cannot honestly say that any one dish was better than the other, there was too much yummy goodness going on, it made my head spin with joy.
Like the Billy Idle song, Rebel Yell, my mouth and tummy, «…cried more, more, more», but my brain cut them off. This event was most definitely worth the drive from the other side of town. Thank you shout out again to Brittney, Genna, Chris and Mrs. Chi and Marco for such a fantastic evening and event.

An Elite Unilocaler party in the Valley! Yesss! I didn’t realize that this beautiful, homey Chinese restaurant was so delicious and down the street from my work!
The owners and staff were so generous and welcoming. They really outdid themselves with the never-​ending courses and drinks. My faves included the crispy beef, walnut shrimp, and string beans. The almond cookie dipped in chocolate was amazing. I loved the game where you win a $ 25 gift card for holding a glass marble in your chopsticks for 4 sec!
I can’t wait to return!

I was so surprised and happy to find a Unilocal event in my own backyard. Plus to top it off, it was a restaurant that I had planning on checking out for the longest time due to the rave reviews. Thank you to whoever selected me to go this amazing Unilocal event.
It was nice to have Chi the owner greet us right there when we walked in.
Even better surprises was to meet so many Unilocal friends, both from outside of Unilocal and people I’ve become friends with on Unilocal.So many bonuses.
Definitely felt a lot of hospitality when they brought out the wine and food. I loved the fact that they kept bringing course after course of different dishes. Nothing beats free food, but it only gets way better when there is a ton of free food and great company.
My favorite things on the menu. The Eggplant, the Walnut Shrimp and the Orange Beef. Oh and the amazing fried rice.
Least favorite dishes were the Silk chicken and the sole fish. Very plain taste on the fish.
Topped off the night with my brother winning a gift card. Thank you again to whoever selected me to go to this event. I love the idea of Unilocal and writing reviews but rewarding us for doing what we like. Well it doesn’t get any better than that.

This was an awesome event! We had so much food leftover that I ate it for lunch and dinner the next day. Thanks for introducing me to a new, yummy spot in the Valley :)

What a fun night. We met a couple more Unilocalers tonight. Dinner was fantastic! Lived in the valley all these years and never knew about this place. Located behind another building so a little difficult to see from Reseda Blvd. Came wait to come back. Thanks for inviting me Brittany!

I am local to the San Fernando Valley so when we pulled up to Chi’s, I was surprised to realize that I wasn’t even aware of its existence even though I drive by this plaza numerous times a week.
Chi came around to everyone before being seated which I appreciated because it gave us a little insight into the restaurant.
Food:
Spicy Pizza: 5 Stars
Shanghai dumplings: 3 stars. They were good but not something I would order on my next visit even though I LOVE dumplings.
Shrimp rolls: Hands down 5 stars when dipped with their sweet and sour sauce. 100% something I will be sure to order again. Beware: the mustard is spicy!
Hot and Sour Soup: 3 Stars. A-​OK
Mango and Candied Walnut Salad: I am not a huge fan of salads but WOW! This was one of the best salads I’ve ever had. Absolute five star dish. It was extremely refreshing with the mango and the candied walnuts were finger licking good.
Chicken Asparagus: 4 Stars
Walnut Shrimp: 5 stars. It was made to perfection with the glaze not being too overpowering.
Orange Beef: 5 stars
Silk Chicken: 4 Stars
Garlic Fried Rice: 4 Stars. It tasted amazing with a little sweet and sour sauce poured over it.
Thai Iced Tea: 5 stars. Soooo refreshing
Unfortunately, I was too full to try some of the other dishes which I sincerely regret now that I think about it.
Service was spectacular and really on point.
I will most definitely be making my way back here especially after winning a gift card and will be sure to bring my bf and friends.
By the way, who knew picking up a marble with chopsticks would be so hard?!?

Thanks a million to Brittney for putting this together, and to Chris for recommending Chi’s as a spot for an Elite event. It was really nice catching up with old Unilocal friends, making some new ones, and finding a good Chinese spot in the valley.
Some of my favorite dishes include the walnut shrimp — the shrimp was tempura’d to perfection and the sauce wasn’t too heavy or cloying — and the super creative chicken pizza with peanut sauce! But these were only 2 of the 15 dishes we got to eat.
Seriously. 15 full-​sized dishes. There was so much food, the buttons on our pants were popping. What restaurant does that for a free event?
To add to the generosity, Chi’s Chinese gave away several $ 25 gift cards with a game at the end. I don’t know how big of a loss they took from the evening, but I’m very grateful that they were willing to host and feed us. Thank you so much to everybody involved!

What a great night it was!!! Thank you Unilocal and Chi’s for your Hospitality and wonderful time. It was the first time ever taking my Husband to a Unilocal Event and he loved it and had a great time as well.
The food was delightful. We got to try so many amazing things: Shanghai dumplings which I didn’t try because I don’t eat pork, we had shrimp rolls, Chi’s Spicy Pizza which was definitely one of my favorites, Hot and sour Soup can’t go wrong with this, the Mango and candied walnut salad by far one of the freshest and delicious salads I’ve ever tried. Walnut sthrp, steamed filet of Sole, Orange Beef, silk Chicken, Sauteed String Beans, Szchewan Eggplant, Garlic Fried Rice, Chicken Chow Fun and Chocolate Almond cookies. This was the Menu, pretty impressive! Everything was sit down family style which was wonderful, we got to share with fellow Unilocalers and also make new Unilocal friends.
I’m glad I got to meet some new Unilocalers and meet some familiar faces: Hi Arash, Christine, Kimberly, Zan, Chad, Howie and Christopher.
My husband and I were so pleased with everything. Restaurant, service and food was DELISH! We will definitely be coming back that’s for sure.

So I have already told like 10 people that we have to come back to Chi’s! The elite Unilocal event was amazing (of course) and the food was seriously so good. The shrimp dishes were my favorite, along with the salad. It feels weird to say that I loved the salad but I really really did! I don’t usually eat meat but I’m glad I splurged last night. The orange beef was seriously amazing. The outside crunch with all that flavor. I was happy to have won a gift certificate, because I will be returning very soon. By the way, what a cool and fun game to play at the end of the night. Thanks Brittany, Mrs. Chi and Marco!

Last night’s events was one of my favorite ever. The food, atmosphere, hospitality, and friendship was just awesome. Brittany and Genna did a great job organizing this event with Marco and Mrs. Chi. The wine pairing was perfect and I will need some details from Brittany on the wine maker as I am new fan. Marco and Chi’s presentations were humble, genuine, and endearing. The game afterwards was a hoot and the $ 25 gift card for the near impossible feat of dexterity was such a nice gesture. This restaurant is so worth a bookmark and a visit. I drive regularly out of my way just to enjoy their food, pleasant service, and comfortable dinning experience. The fellow Elites were awesome and I reconnected with a few, met a few more, and enjoyed pleasant conversation with some of my friends. I am so happy I was included. I sure wish Marco and Chi the best of luck moving forward and will steer business their way any time I can.
Chi’s is an upscale Chinese Restaurant with quite reasonable prices. Highlights of the meal were the Shrimp Rolls, Green Beans, Shanghai Dumplings, Chinese Pizza, Hot and Sour Soup, the White Fish, Silk Chicken, and the perfect wine. The dessert was pretty darn good as well; and who ever thought of chilled chocolate dipped almond cookies is a genius.

I’m just happy to be invited! The Chi Unilocal event in Northridge was certainly my favorite to date. Chi, herself, walked around meeting and greeting patrons talking about her inspirations for the menu. She shared that she is the brains behind the menu but the muscle and ultimate skill is the creative genius of her chef!
I enjoyed being able to taste so many different types of dishes, many I would have never ordered in my own. Dishes were served family style which allowed table conversation to flow. The candied walnuts with shrimp was Devine. The strings beans were perfect and the garlic fried rice was the perfect touch to fill my appetite.
The servers were on-​point too! I love surprise refills. Teas, wines, sodas, even Thai teas were served. Definitely helps to coat the tummy when your tasting so many flavors. I was more than happy to drop a few dollars in the tip bucket! I sincerely hope that team made out!
All in all, I ran into some fellow Elite Unilocalers and making friends all over so cal. Thanks Brittany and Genna for hosting another go rest event and one in the Valley!

Absolutely, the most fun I’ve had on an outing by myself. It’s difficult for me to venture out on my own, and unfortunately my plus one canceled — BUT — I am so happy I set my fear of the unknown aside and came to this event.
Having never been here, not even knowing it ever existed during my college days, I enjoyed the (new) look and the contemporary style of the interior aesthetics.
As far as food goes, all of their dishes were exceptional. I especially enjoyed the Chi’s Spicy Pizza, and Silk Chicken with broccoli.
Chi and Marco were so sweet and inviting — thank you for allowing us to dine with Unilocal and introducing us ‘newbies’ to your fabulous restaurant.
I will most definitely make the trip back — it’s worth the 45 minute trek!

OMG!!! A Unilocal Elite Event in The Valley!
Wow, just wow! I don’t think I have ever seen so much food on one table before.
This was another wonderful LA West Elite Event. Thank you Brittany B. and James R. for making this event possible, and a special thank you to Marco and Mrs. Chi for hosting us at your fabulous restaurant.
All the food was amazing, but my favorites by far were Chi’s Spicy Pizza, Mango and Candied Walnut Salad, Chicken Asparagus, Orange Beef, Sauteed String Beans, Szechuan Eggplant, and Garlic Fried Rice. The whole meal was a real treat, and I was happy to be a part of it. The new décor looks incredible, and is very spacious.
I am looking forward to coming back, while the Mango Salad is still in season!

Well, Brittany knocked it out of the park tonight.
This was our first event and it was fantastic. (Next time we will dress better).
All the dishes just got better with each one brought out.
Ms. Chi and her family were the very best hosts.

A big thank you to Brittany, and Genna for coordinating this amazing Unilocal event. I’ve lived in the valley for 16 years, I’ve seen Chi’s in passing, and I’m ashamed to say that I hadn’t dined here previously.
As I walked through the door, my husband and I were enthusiastically greeted by Chi, owner of Chi’s Chinese Restaurant for 18 years, and her son, Marco. Already, you can tell that the food is made with love. Family style dining was just perfect, as we got to meet and mingle with other Unilocalers. The décor isn’t your typical Chinese restaurant, you know, the ones that look like circa 1970’s. Chi’s has a fresh modern flare.
The shrimp rolls, shanghai dumplings, and Chi’s spicy pizza appetizers were promptly served. Everything was spot on with flavor, but my favorite had to be the shrimp rolls. Most Chinese restaurants add fillers like cabbage and carrots in their egg rolls, but not Chi’s! The menu promises shrimp, and boy do they deliver! Each crunchy golden bite has a sweet succulent piece of shrimp. With a little sweet and sour dipping sauce, I could’ve had a whole plate all to myself.
Once the appetizer plates were cleared, along came the mango and candied walnut salad, & hot and sour soup. That soup had a kick.
As soon as the garlic fried rice hit the table. The rest was a blur. Entrée after entrée after entrée kept arriving at our table. Chi, Marco, and the staff were making sure drinks were filled, and Unilocalers plates were full with nothing but deliciousness.
Chicken asparagus, walnut shrimp, steam filet of cod, orange beef, silk chicken, sautéed string bean, Szechwan eggplant, and chicken chow fun. Freshest ingredients, flavorful, cooked to perfection. Not one dish was lacking in taste, or quantity. As my group had full bellies, and couldn’t possibly take another bite, Chi graciously brings to-​go boxes for us to enjoy later on.
Service was absolutely impeccable.
Would I come back? Absolutely!
