The first time I came here I was mind blown. After that, I feel like my love for Kanpai deteriorated… maybe we should always stick with the nigiri and the no fuss stuff… so yeah, stick with the fish and less of the random fusion stuff and you’ll be good! Those fusion dishes are way too saucy in my opinion. The nigiri, on the other hand, is out of this world! Their handrolls are also equally delicious. I’m not much a handroll fan, so if i’m saying I like it then it must be damn good :] Must orders: x clam miso soup x tuna sushi sampler x salmon sushi sampler x king crab w/truffle sushi x aburi snow butterfishi sushi x seared toro w/truffle They also serve ramen after 10pm and apparently it’s AMAZING since the dude raves about it 24⁄7. Unfortunately, the thought of eating ramen after 7pm for me makes me feel bloated and enlarged without even trying it. I. just. can’t. Service can be a little pushy at times, but overall it’s a fun/friendly environment. Better that A LOTTTT of casual sushi places I’ve tried.

FOOD: Quality did not meet the prices. Flavor was average, not great not bad. Rolls were not well prepared(very loose) Best dish is the sashimi. Big disconnect from the prices to the end result. AMBIANCE: very crowded here. Small-Not a lot of space here. Make sure call in advance and make reservations PARKING: parking on the side $ 5.00 PRICE: overpriced for the quality SERVICE: great service very tentative

This is my favorite sushi place on the west side or south bay. — Great service — they are very attentive and go above and beyond to meet your needs should you ask. — Get the live sweet shrimp; they service it with the heads and then you can ask for the heads to be placed in miso soup or deep fried so you can gnaw on the tasty batter — Daily menu is where it’s at — get the King crab with black truffle sauce or the Toro with black truffle sauce — Great scallops and jumbo clam — Save room for dessert or get an order of egg sushi for a quick and small dessert

We like the food here but there’re always issues with their reservation system. I made a phone reservation a few months ago and when we showed up for our reservation, we were told that there was no record of it — we ended up waiting for 30 minutes before being seated. Yesterday we went there again after making a reservation through Unilocal online this time — and when we showed up, we were told that there was no table available and they could only accommodate us at the sushi bar because we did not reserve through phone. What kind of reservation system that would include bar setting without clearly stated in the system, and I only booked through online because they were not reliable over the phone to start with. Eventually we had to drive to their sister location for a properly seated table after complaining to the assistant manager. When we arrived there, turned out there’s another reservation getting mixed up and a group of 10 people had to wait for a long time before getting seated. This place had so much potential but if they don’t improve their reservation system, I’m afraid that it is running the risk of alienating customers as evident in other negative reviews of this place.

My go-to sushi place in LA, absolutely love Kanpai! Such a perfect stopover before or after a flight. The food is amazing and I always crave this place when I’m in LA. Their seafood is always so fresh, and their uni is soo good. Great service too.

Not too impressed with the ramen; the noodles were too soft and the tonkotsu broth was too salty to my liking.

This is my FAVORITE sushi place in terms of QUALITY. Im a huge fan of spicy tuna, and this place does it perfectly!(Hard to do perfectly) It is a little pricey. But while I was in college I would walk to this place, order 2 california rolls and 2 spicy tuna rolls for my boyfriend and I. The total usually came to somewhere between $ 25-$ 35. SOWORTHIT. The rolls they give you are very large cut. And Im pretty sure they give you more than 8. A must do if your by LAX!

The food here is incredible. First off, there are 2 locations close by– this one on Lincoln and the one on Sepulveda. The food at both location is very good. However, if the one on Sepulveda can take you in, then do so! Save yourself from coming here. Waitress and the Asian guy with long ponytail(in a bun) is very very rude. I, along with my family, have tried many other fancy Japanese restaurant that are far better than this place that have wayyyyyy better service and very welcoming atmosphere. The only sets this place apart from the other location on Sepulveda is the rude demeanor of young waitress in the evening as well as the other waiter/manager(Asian guy with ponytail). The reason I give 2 star, we called ahead to make a reservation and upon arrival, we(myself and my father) provided our name name and the rude Asian guy yelled at us and said«we’re both talking». So they pointed us to our seat and the waitress walked over to ask for order(and it hasn’t even been 5 minutes that we’ve been seated). We placed the orders and I asked to keep one of the specialty menu as I was looking at the rolls and special stuff and the Asian guy walked by and snatched the menu and placed it on the table beside me!(Hello! I was looking at the menu still!!). The waitress gave us our soups… Waited 3 min exactly before we asked for spoons. She asked with an attitude as if it wasn’t necessary to have one. Everytime our food arrived, we said THANKYOU and she would just look at us without even responding you’re welcome or anything. We asked for some chopsticks and some more ginger and she has this attitude as if she didn’t want to be bothered. Food arrived in 12 min exactly. She never even came to check up on our table like a normal waitress would. She along with the Asian guy was very very very rude and it saddens me that a nice restaurant with such an exquisite cuisine can have unprofessional staff like them. Only one waitress(Miyuki) was a LOT more professional and nice. She was pleasant and smiled a lot… My point is, this is a hospitality industry and if they have a problem or hated their job… They should take their shitty attitude elsewhere!

Good fish, nice staff. I’d skip the dessert. I like that Japanese was spoken so much between staff and some customers.

I think this place is decent compared to other nearby sushi in the west side. However, I’m a spoiled kid in Torrance and I can only give it an okay rating. Let’s start at the bright side. The sushi is above average. Nice cutting, nice presentation, nice seasoning, fresh fish. Other small plates are tasting good, too. Overall good food. Now the dark side. Service is a bit messy: the place is very tiny and you will be bumped by either the customers or the staff; it is freaking crazy busy and the servers will have little time to pay attention to you if you failed to order ALL food in the very beginning. I think I’ll skip this place and just go local Torrance sushi places next time.

If you want authentic Japanese cuisine, this is it. We were surprised to find the place was packed when we arrived on a Monday evening. We had a short wait and knew we were in for a treat. The food was very good, the service was great, and one of the guys who worked there was so friendly and personable that he actually took the time to explain the different sake options to us and eventually sold us on a middle one. We tried a sake flight and will never drink cheap sake again… this flight wasn’t the highest end, but it wasn’t the bottom shelf either and it made all the difference. Finally, we have a sake standard! It was great. Authentic vibes and easy, free parking on the street outside. We’ll be back… looking forward to trying the ramen next time.

My friends and I have been coming to Kanpai for years: lots of tasty, authentic selections, good vibe in a small space. But, last Saturday’s experience was enough to leave a bad taste in all of our mouths, and I for one won’t be back anytime soon. Our bill was about $ 300, no chump change. We had a few bumps in the road during our meal with delays and server miscommunication, but were still in relatively good spirits thanks to the sake. It was at the conclusion of our meal where everything just went downhill and we sobered up real fast. Opal, who was not our server, came through with a handheld credit card device at the table and sighed loudly when she saw 3 cards, which we were asking to split evenly. After sharply telling us that they«don’t take more than 2 cards! But will make an exception!» I offered to take my card out to reduce the cards to 2 but she said it made no difference. She then busted out a calculator and started punching away feverishly. Confused at what she was doing, I quickly whipped out my iPhone calculator, divided the total by 3 and stated the amount. She then mumbled something about tip, pointed to the tip guide at the bottom of the receipt, and spent another minute punching numbers. Not sure what she was doing as at the end of the day, she divided by 3 and gave us each the same number that took me seconds to calculate on my own. We added standard gratuity so as not to punish our server, but whoever this lady is should know her rude attitude totally ruined our meal.

I’m sure everyone already knows about this place so there isn’t much to say. Scallop sashimi carpaccioooo. I wished I could eat this everyday. Anyone who’s a fan of scallops please get it. Everything is good except for their ramen. I guess I won’t be visiting their ramen location anytime soon. It’s a really small place and gets realllly busy so be sure to plan ahead and make reservations.

5 star Omakase dinner ! One of the best omakase I had in awhile on this side of town. Kanpai offers traditional style sushi to people like myself that enjoy that style, and yes they do have your rolls and other food for people who enjoy that as well. Kanpai isn’t a very big restaurant, so reservation is definitely a must. My buddy made reservations days a head, since this was he go to sushi joint, plus he know the head Chef Masa. From coming so often. Chef Masa takes great pride on preparing each nigiri to perfection, and yes NO dipping is required for that was served. SERVICE: This was fantastic and friendly. Service with a smile. OMAKASE: Nigiri that was served. Hiramasa! Cherry Salmon! Kimmedai ! Still one of my favorite fish. Kisu! Sawaka ! Nodoguro ! Isaki ! Very rare to get and it was outstanding. Nice firm texture! Conch! Very good! Taste like Octopus very meaty. Seared Engawa ! Chu-Toro ! Sayori ! Mirugai ! Live Sweet Shrimp ! Hokkaido Uni! King Crab w/Truffle. Fantastic! Foie Gras Nigiri ! Kagoshima Wagyu Beef with Hokkaido Uni and Caviar! Amazing Seared Kagoshima Wagyu Beef! Just like eating butter! And Negitoro to finish it off. Everything was perfect and fresh. There were no piece of fish that I didn’t enjoy. Each nigiri had its own taste and texture. Perfect amount of nikiri glaze. Chef Masa was fantastic and I can’t wait for next visit.

I’m a sushi snob. In fact, I feel sorry for all the guys who took me to a sushi restaurant on our first date — they clearly did not know that I hate rainbow rolls and Sugarfish. I like my sushi served traditional Omakase style(Mori sushi is my second home) and freshness/quality is not something I’m willing to compromise. However, Kanpai is one non-traditional sushi spot that I absolutely adore. From live sweet shrimp to PK-3 toro hand roll to snow crab leg with truffle sushi, Kanpai always serves fresh and high quality seafood in a wide variety of delicious creations. I admit that a meal at Kanpai is never cheap, but name me a restaurant where you can get fresh uni, toro and live sweet shrimp for $-$$. You pay for what you get. Now for those who complain that Kanpai is way overpriced for what they serve: Sugarfish offers a Trust Me set menu that includes fish on soggy vinegar-soaked rice for just $ 32!

Rating: 79⁄100 I consider Kanpai to be one of the best izakaya in Los Angeles, with regard to both food quality and authenticity, beating out places like Irori, Sweetfish, and even Hamakaze. Indeed, it is the preferred izakaya of my Japanese coworkers. The food is a bit expensive for what you get, but then again, izakaya food always is – after all, we’re more here for drinks and socialization rather than fine dining. There are many less competent izakaya that force you to sacrifice food quality over ambiance, but prices aside, Kanpai puts together some darn good quality stuff! There’s a daily menu that has almost as many choices as the main menu, which itself is a mini-encyclopedia of sushi, izakaya standards, and American interpretations of Japanese favorites. Some previous reviewers have commented on the poor service they’ve received, but on the contrary, I find their service prompt, enthusiastic, and sincere. In fact, I’d say service is one of their strong points. Some of my recommendations: –Ohitashi: cold spinach stewed in dashi, topped with bonito flakes. This is a subtle dish, and something I love to go back to after in between bites of something more flavorful. –Zaru Tofu: a huge chalice of cold, deliciously smooth tofu. The tofu is high quality and goes great with the accompanying ponzu sauce. –Agedashi Tofu: deep-fried tofu in dashi. Theirs is executed fantastically. — Saikyoyaki: This kyoto-style miso-marinated black cod is one of my favorite of their hot dishes. –SUSHI: I’m not ashamed to say it… their sushi is actually some of the best around this part of town, and not to be taken lightly just because they serve a lot of non-sushi dishes. Ordering from their list of daily specials is recommended. This usually constitutes half of what I eat here. That’s all for dinner, but come during the day and get a different experience with their lunch specials. I recommend their ramen and oven-cooked yellowtail plate!

Came here because I was at LAX. Luckily my friend told me about a deal on . You pay $ 40 on the website and get $ 100 off for Kanpai. Since I had credit from this website, I got the deal for free! Yay! The sushi was of normal quality but it was very expensive. I didn’t feel like I ate too much and the bill was $ 230, before the deal. I listed what I ate in my pictures and noted which ones I liked. I originally wanted to come here to try the Phoenix moon because it was popular. I thought it was okay. I don’t really like any fish that’s smushed/grinded down. I liked the uni but I didn’t really eat the creamy toro. Overall, happy hour would be more worth it if you’re planning on coming here. I wouldn’t come here at a regular time.

After giving it time and having the same slap-in-your-face rude service over and over, I am compelled to update my review to a solid 2-star, only because the food is still good and I am a fair reviewer. Very unfortunate to experience business that over time degrade in service once they establish their«regulars». One too many times, we were treated poorly by snobby waiters. Yet he/she would turn around and attend to their«regulars» right next to our table and give them the best customer service with a smile. Not surprised by the mix of reviews on here. Another thing to note for users, expect to be scoffed at for«how dare you use a certificate» attitude. Come on. If your business offers whatever deals to bring in customers, please don’t treat them as 2nd class citizens. Not cool. Given the gazillions of other ramen and sushi options we are blessed to enjoy all over LA, we no longer wish to subject ourselves to the whims of the poor staff, no matter how good the Chef menus are and will bring our business elsewhere where we are appreciated.

Pleasantly surprised with this restaurant since I didn’t expect much from its generic name. My customers brought me here for lunch and I had the chirashi bowl per their recommendation. Boy they give you a lot of food. It actually comes in a set of three… an assortment fish bowl, an ikura bowl and an unagi bowl. Even I couldn’t finish all three bowls and I do eat a lot. All the fish were fresh but the uni was especially so sweet and so good. All this and it was only $ 18.50. They serve Ramen and other a la carte dishes that looked delish… I will be coming back to to try them!

Yes, it does feel like typical Japanese izakaya vibe. Small, dark, dimmed lights, sake bottles, sushi bar, tables close to each other, running noise. An ample menu of sushi, sashimi, ramen and izakaya(toriyaki, takoyaki, etc…), perhaps a menu with a lot of cuisine staples from Japan. That, makes me doubt sometimes. I have not adventured to taste anything else besides the sushi and sashimi plates, and right there is where I am amazed by this place. During my last visit I had the regular sashimi combo with salad, miso soup, and red bean ice cream for dessert. This is their regular sashimi sampler, which is 15 pieces of 3 different kind of fish. A LOT of sashimi. Just Japanese sashimi, no sauces, toppings, no other. The fish is very good, and you may want to complement it with some steamed rice bowl on the side. The salad is sliced cucumber, sprinkled with white toasted sesame seeds, along with some carrot sticks on top. No extra points for the miso, and the red bean ice cream, I could have skipped. Other times I have had the fusion sushi/sashimi deluxe plate called Super Deluxe Sushi Sampler, and I believe that is the best plate of the whole restaurant as a sampler dish. As said, the plain sampler is fine n’ good, but when they fusion it and explore with the flavors, sauces, toppings and juices, they master it. They really do. It is LA fusion style sushi flavors. On the other hand, as a single dish, I have no doubt you will enter ecstasy as you bite the seared super toro with fresh black truffle hand roll. Slowly dying as a piece of heaven dilutes in your mouth to the touch of the warmth of your taste buds. I always sit by the bar, the sushi chefs know what they are doing, let them guide you through possible plates to order if they recommend something. They do a really god job at it. They even tell you to slow it down if you seem to be ordering to much at once, and sometimes the waitress will get worried if you are not eating while still warm, those pieces of sushi that are deliberately brought to you warm to get the most flavor on each bite. They come off like a nice ol’ friend, not rude by any stance. I wish I had followed the chef advice on some sushi he recommended. It seems he noticed my taste buds needed stronger stimulation beyond good plain sashimi. He said ‘I recommended better dishes for you to taste, I will give you something else’, then is when the Seared Toro Hand Roll arrived and the murmur from the tables’ conversations played to the rhythm of the night. If roles were inversed and I was to build Omakase from the guest side then this is my own build Omakase: Super DELUXE sushi sampler, Uni with Ikagura sushi, toro truffle hand roll, king salmon sushi. Some good sake. Kampai!

We’ve been to Kanpai several times but the last experience was particularly unappetizing. The omakase dishes were an attempt at japanese fusion that were overflowing with sauces, as to cover up the sub-par quality off the fish. A couple of the dishes such as a salmon cheese nigiri were barely edible. The more traditional nigiri was unimpressive. The sushi rice fell apart and the chef also poured copious amounts of seasoning to make up for the B grade quality of the fish. Half way through the meal, I couldn’t have been more eager to finish and be on our way. This restaurant may be a decent neighborhood place to get your weekday sushi fix, but don’t come here expecting more than that i.e. just order the chirashi bowl. The ridiculous bill made me feel that the restaurant was eager to make a profit over providing clients with an enjoyable dining experience.

Hands down THEBESTOMAKASESUSHI I’ve had. Even beats the places in NYC. The assortment and creations were absolutely delightful. The waiter/assistant mgr was very knowledgeable. The funniest line of the night, after asking for omakase, was«On a scale of 1 – 10, with 1 being I Like California Rolls, and a 10 being I should’ve been a contestant on Fear-Factor, which one are you?» If that tells you anything, this establishment is know for it’s variety in sushi. I left with an 8.5!

Lol I have been to this place several times already. I would have to say it’s not cheap, but you get what you paid for. I would say it is one of the most creative sushi in LA. Koko was our chef this time and he was really funny and he gave us dessert on the house. Anyways, I would recommend this place to someone who knows what real sushi is.

This is the SECOND time i had food poisoning eating here after spending $ 300 on sushi only. I had many fish so i don’t know which one it was. But lately i have noticed that the sushi chefs are serving anything and everything, even when the piece is at its last leg. Those slices should be judged and thrown away and not served. Also, i have had many incidences where they serve small scraps OR they bring out slabs of new fish which has been stored and they do not throw away the first dry edge. Who wants to eat those? They should discard those and give us the second slice.

Wow!!! I have a favorite little place in Tokyo that I had considered the best sushi I have had. But wow. This place is amazing. Omakase offering was incredible. How many more adjectives and superlatives can I offer up? My fav was yellow tail traditional skewer with 400-year old recipe sauce and two days of marinating.

My husband and I visited Los Angeles for the New Year and we both craved for Sushi. With the help of Unilocal,we discovered this place. It’s a cute place, meaning small hole-in-the-wall type. Don’t judge the square-footage, because there was a long line of aspiring diners when we arrived. The line was through the entrance door. We had to write down our names on a list and waited for an available table. It was worth it. Great food. Great service. You’d get a happy vibe while dining here. We’d definitely go back for more.

Yes I understand that food borne illnesses are difficult to track, however the last two meals I had was at kanpai dinner and lunch the morning after(I didn’t eat breakfast) my friends probably are indifferent to commenting on Unilocal. I love your food, I practically ordered a third of the menu, Phoenix moon, toro, oyster uni shooters, salmon sashimi, baked crab, chiraishi… Etc so I can’t pinpoint which exact thing might have caused this. I’m not trying to chase away customers, I just want management to be aware of my and my friends’ experience Thank you for taking the time to read this

We ordered various sushi/sashimi(basically almost everything on the list except egg, crab, and salmon) and a few hand rolls(spicy japan scallop, spicy octopus, spicy yellowtail, spicy tuna. can you tell we like spicy?) and everything was just a-ok. The only dishes that stood out was the live sweet shrimp and the peppered albacore sushi. I docked a star because of our server. He was also my server the first time I went and although he is incredibly nice, he is also incredibly pushy. He kept insisting us to order sake bottles and we gave in the first time since we were planning to drink anyways but throughout our dinner, he kept insisting we buy the $ 50 bottle sake(we had already ordered 2 bottles plus 3 beers). It was funny at first bc he was half-joking(but not really) but it got annoying and not to mention obnoxious real quick and he did this the first time I went as well. Our bill was already exceeding $ 500 so he needed to calm down and let us eat our $ 500+ meal. All in all, mehhh

So, Kanpai Japanese Sushi Bar & Grill might be simple, spartan, and minimal in décor, but the pristine fish served as sashimi and nigiri is anything but. The prices can ratchet up with rare and unique cuts of fish that can’t be found anywhere else. Probably the best sushi-only experience to be found in Los Angeles.

Way overrated. I’m a huge huge fan of eaterla and their suggestions but for the first time in the last 5 years eaterla has finally let me down. This place in addition to being overrated, is also way overpriced. The $ 18 k4 roll was definitely under expectation. Needed more jalapeño taste and the mouthful of tuna not very elegantly created. Caterpillar roll was falling apart as it was being eaten. Furthermore, we waited a good 5 minutes after entering before we received even an acknowledgment that we were waiting. The hostess had a persistent resting bitch face, could not even peep a smile. Lemonade was artificial. Lastly I provided a credit card with a chip and apparently I’m supposed to write the tip down before they can charge. First time I’ve ever heard of that in the first world. And no I do not want to write down the tip before you charge my card. Never will I come back again, not for the service not for the food.

One of the best sushi places in town. I have to say the sushi is excellent. If you are sushi lover this place is a must. I love the they have excellent dishes that are done right from A to Z. As we all know LA has a lot of sushi places. What stands out the most about Kanpai is the service that goes in to making the sushi. Everything you order has great flavoring. The spicy octopus salad is a must to try. I highly recommend the tuna and the yellowtail that is a must. If you are a person who loves exotic dishes then you will love every bite of your food. What I love the most about this place the people here are super cool and very friendly. This place has the NY vibe that makes your great time. The service here is first class from the minute you arrive to minute you leave. You have street parking and valet. The plus they are open late.

Why did it take me so long to try this place? Delicious and fresh sushi, amazing service, and innovative items on the menu. The best sushi place in Westchester, hands down. They also look like they have some sick lunch specials, so I’m going to have to try that next! My dad took here last night, so I made a reservation for 6PM. Not that crowded then but it was packed by 7. I highly suggest you make a reservation in advance because the restaurant isn’t that big. We were originally seated at a private table in the corner, but my dad wanted to move to the sushi counter, which they were able to accommodate quickly. Thank you! FOOD: So they offer specials daily, which I think is worth a look/try. Off the daily specials, I had to order their kumamoto oyster topped off with uni and caviar. You get two beautiful oysters for $ 18. OMG… Mind blowing. First off, the oysters were presented so nicely on a circular bowl with tiny pieces of ice and garnished with a purple orchid. Then, the flavors just worked so well together. The creaminess of the uni and oyster tied in with the saltiness of the caviar. They were also extremely generous with the amount of uni they topped off the oyster. Super fatty and delicious. You have to order this at least once to try it! I highly recommend it. They also offer tempura, izakaya options, and of course, sushi. To start off our feast, we ordered the potato croquette and several sashimi options. The potato croquette was super creamy and comforting. The exterior had the perfect amount of panko crumbs that were fried to perfection to give you that nice and subtle crunch. Once you get into the croquette though, you are in potato heaven. The potato is still silky smooth and was pleasantly satisfying. There are two pieces that come to an order but it is something good to share. The sashimi was presented nicely as well. We got a few pieces of salmon, tuna, white fish, and yellowtail. The white fish was so damn good. You eat it with a different kind of sauce(I think it was yuzu) but it was fresh and tasty! As for the nigiri options, everything was wonderful. I ordered the tuna, mackerel, salmon, and uni. I just seriously indulged. Everything was fabulous! The rice to fish ratio was spot on. The rice had the right amount of vinegar to offset the fishiness of the fish. The fish was cut the perfect size(not being too thick or thin) and best of all, the fish was the perfect temperature. I hate when it’s too cold because it just makes it really difficult to eat. They were also nice enough to hook it up with the ridiculous amounts of ginger I eat with my sushi. If I wanted more ginger, they piled it up on my plate. Best of all, they had a phenomenal creamy blue crab hand roll. It was so good, I ordered it TWICE. Despite how full I was, I made the room for it. You can get it with either seaweed or soy paper. At first, I got it with the seaweed. It was good but it was hard to eat. I had difficulty ripping the seaweed easily but the blue crab was so sweet and creamy. I could definitely go for one right now actually… But the better one out of the two was no doubt, the blue crab with the soy paper. This was much easier to eat it and it was SOGOOD! SERVICE: Amazing. The sushi chefs all spoke Japanese, which my dad is always fond of. They’re really quick at making your food and don’t eavesdrop on your conversation like other sushi chefs. You can also easily order your sushi through them and not your regular server. What I truly liked about this place is the fact that they constantly refilled my cup of green tea. They were on point with making sure my glass was always full. PARKING: Either street in front of the restaurant or they have a small lot to the side. I had to circle around a few times to find a spot because it gets packed! Lots of restaurants around here, so I can see why. Overall, if you haven’t been here yet, you must go! Food is excellent. And don’t forget to try the oyster and/or blue crab hand roll. You will thank me for it later :)

This place is Just OK. Pretty pricey. We tried Phoenix moon, which was one of their specials. Quite expensive for the food quality and taste. We also tried their k-2 and k-9. Although both are pretty ok but not something that I would go back for. Place is small, like what you would expect from a sushi bar. Honestly, we’ll probably go back there again to try some of their other rolls/sushi.

Parking is behind the actual building, which is facing the busy main streets filled with cars heading to LAX or El Segundo. On the flip side, TONS of parking spots, a little poorly lit, but still, it’s free parking, and without the stupid hassle of nearly any other place. Here with a girlfriend, we ordered a fairly simple meal: Spicy tuna roll, K-1 roll, agedashi tofu, and an eel roll. We waited for what seemed like a while, catching up with one another since we do our meals and chats infrequently. After realizing we’d waited almost 45 minutes for our food, we flagged the server, whom was very sweet and apologetic about the food not coming out yet. I also watched two other orders while we waited for our food, go to the incorrect tables. Sadly, none of the food that was on the plates, was ours. When the food finally arrived, it was good– nothing where I thought«Wow what’s in this, unicorn tears?!». Both roll sizes were above average, which I appreciated. Maybe it was from getting our food right before closing but it didn’t taste incredibly fresh. The tofu was also good, but heavier in oil saturation and flavor than others I’ve had. It seemed as if the kitchen let the tofu sit in the oil before straining thoroughly. While the server was nice, and I appreciate her help once we expressed our concern, losing my order, or misplacing it, etc– doesn’t make me trustworthy of their ability to make my food quickly in the future. It just… lingers. Also, considering the sushi was not mind-blowing yummy, not sure of others reasons to return, unless I’m with a group craving sushi down by LAX.
