Fellow Unilocalers, The food was subpar. The atmosphere was very basic. The service wasn’t the greatest. I wouldn’t bring family or friends here. However, I would definitely bring someone I didn’t get along with to this restaurant, and ensure that they pay for it.

They charged me for a salad I never ordered. Also they gave me some disgusting greasy watery soup as soup Jo which I couldn’t tolerate the smell of it and had to throw al of it away. The Kebab was mediocre. Will never be back.

The king of koobideh. That should be the name of the place. People who don’t like koobideh, like it here. White folks — koobideh is the ground beef kabob as opposed to the whole chunk filet meat. My dad says this is the best koobideh he’s had… ever. Like better than in Iran. It’s definitely the best I’ve had. If you haven’t been here yet, and you like food, you need to go. Period. Don’t blow up the spot on this place and make it a hipster spot, but, you need to go. The koobideh, on bread. You’re welcome.

Hands down the best ! Love the food, service and the owner. They deliver food to my work all the time. The Kabab is very tender and juicy. Their portions are good and fresh. I always get the chicken Kabab. Extra bread on the side. Call 20 minutes ahead and food is ready to go.

Okay, Let’s try this one more time and let me be specific about my own experience. I realized that this place had changed ownership, but I still decided to give it a try. No greetings from any of them when you walk in… There are plenty Sangak there, but when I asked for one, they said«it’s sold out», okay, understood! Then when I ordered two plates of Koobideh, I realized that he overcharged me, he tried to argue that he didn’t but he did… And the guy has a sign in Farsi that says«Don’t negotiate», How about you don’t rip your customers off sir? Who would even have that classless tacky sign? No wonder the name of this place is Mahaleh, your place belongs in Mahaleh, not in LA. Usually when you go to a Persian restaurant, they bring you bread. But not this guy, when I asked for a little bit of bread(something that they used to give when they had the old management), he gave me the dirtiest look and said something so rude in his broken English. I wish my Farsi was good enough to curse him out, what’s his problem? I would never walk in this dump ever again. And do NOT try to contact me privately and bully me or scare to remove my comment. Unilocal is designed for people to share their honest opinions and they shouldn’t be bullied/harassed by business owners for expressing their opinions.

I am not Jewish, yet I love this place. They have the best koobideh(ground beef kabob) in town, and when eaten with their sangak(flatbread) fresh out of the oven it’s absolutely divine. I’ve had other dishes off their menu such as ghormeh sabzi(beef and spinach stew) with tadigh(crispy rice), and baghali polo(rice pilaf with dill and lamb), but I always keep going back to the koobideh. Prices are also very affordable and portions are generous. My only wish is that they start serving their drinks in cups with ice instead of expecting customers to drink out of the can, and they start serving Persian hot tea. Parking is a bitch — no private lot and street parking is hard to find. They are also a kosher restaurant popular with the Pico-Robertson Orthodox community. Out of respect for their clientele, please don’t go in wearing short shorts and tanktops or dressed like a pole dancer.

Why, oh why, is there not a place like this closer to me! Ugh… Well, at least I now have a super affordable, super delicious, proper Persian place to fulfill my craving, regardless of the drive. I ordered the Hummus and Tehina $ 3.99, Tabouli Salad $ 4.99, and Ground Beef Kabab plate $ 8.99. All of these items were fresh, flavorful, and I’m a super fan. They also gave me a complimentary Israeli Salad. Excellent!

To be honest, we wandered in here by accident — and I’m glad we did! They have a cool rotating oven to bake the bread(similar in consistency to pita but way better!) that comes with the food. I got the chicken kabob which was excellent. I also got the hummus and falafel plate — the falafel s were tiny, but the hummus was outstanding. Interior and exterior seating was about 10 table, everything was clean and shiny. Overall it was an excellent discovery! Price was similar to other kabob places and quite reasonable when you factor in taste and quality. The flatbread is available to purchase and take out, it comes in sheets about 3 feet long! And it’s kosher!

Since I always go to the place with the same set up as this one near by i decided to give this place a try, what a mistake. There is no greeting when you walk in, professionalism does not exist here, they go straight to the point” what do you want to order” so I asked what’s good? I get a reply«everything is good» so I decided to get a Beef Kobideh served with rice. All i Have to say«did you missed the seasoning?» Even tho the Manager/owner saw my plate half touched he did not even bother to ask. So i decided to leave it and walk away and never return again. One star is for the hot bread.

The fact that this place is kosher is just an added plus. In a city filled with Persian food options I would venture to say this is the absolute best kabab hands down. I(and I believe most Persians) judge Persian restaurants on two criteria 1) the beef kabob 2) the freshness of the onion. Mahaleh gets a 10 out of 10 on both. This is the first kosher Persian restaurant I have tried that gets it right. Not only did they get it right, but they do it even better then the non kosher places. Parking is not the best but driving around and paying attention to signs you can generally find street parking. Everything is great but make sure to order the beef koobideh. The tahdig is delicious as well. The best part is eating the sangak(bread) with the meat juice at the end of the meal. Remember it’s kosher so sorry no dough or(yogurt drink) or butter.

Really delicious… I really love their Persian bread(I think it’s called sangak) and their vegan Persian yogurt(and I generally hate dairy yogurt!) Highly recommend!

The owner here is probably the worst business man I have ever met. He does not appreciate return business. I like the food here, and have eaten here many times, but today will be the last time I order food from him. This was the Third time he screwed up my order, and he blamed it on me! He Won’t offer any type of compensation for his screw up. Got back to my office with the wrong food for my boss who is here from New York. So embarrassing… Now we have to dispute the charge with our credit card company. Thanks for nothing Bobby. Learn how to run a business, and learn to appreciate people who give you their money time after time. You just lost a great customer.

It is nice when restaurant owners care about their patrons. If something goes wrong they will fix it. This last dinner was done perfectly; the steak & chicken thigh kababs, salad, and eggplant dip flavours were delicious, & the bread was 3 feet long! However, the first time I ordered my food to take-out, I got there at closing time to pick it up. When I opened my container of Boneless Chicken Thighs kabab, I found in its place a long dark thing that did not look like pieces of chicken! I tasted it, thinking maybe my perception of chicken could have been wrong, but no… It was like beef sausage. I called to tell the restaurant, but they had already closed(at 8 pm)! This review is updated now to show that when I called to say I got the wrong meat, the man remembered me, & I got tasty & juicy pieces of chicken. I’m giving 4 Stars now also because I did get this awesome«Kashko Bademjan,» mushed eggplant with crunchy caramelized onions on top… So good! Also their Israeli Salad is so refreshing & lemon-y. Their bread is good too. I was able to satisfy my hunger with these mouthwatering foods, and it’s a good reminder to always check your order before leaving, even if you think it appears rude.

Good food good service but what really amazed me was there was a homeless man outside and the owner had him sit down on the outside table and fed him free of charge. Really touching moment. Also the fact that they have the non dairy yogurt and other product to mix with the meat is a huge plus. Worth every penny.

First of all, I don’t understand the bad reviews on this business at all. Nothing even close had ever happened to me or my friends. I’ve been coming to this place for a very long time, and even with the new management I love it. It’s one of the best kosher meat places if you don’t have a ton of time. My favorites are Soltani kebab combination and eggplant kashko is amazing! Not to mention they bake their own bread which is extremely yummy. Highly recommend.
