I love food trucks and I see this truck a lot around town and especially in Hollywood. So one morning while at USC I decide to try them out with a breakfast sandwich. Boy was I disappointed. The breakfast burrito was $ 8 which is on the pricey side for a food truck. And they only give you bacon, egg, cheese, beans rice and Pico DE Gallo. Normally the trucks I go to have ham, sausage, bacon, egg and hash browns for $ 6. Anyways, the burrito came out pretty big. But when I opened it up, the tortilla was not brown or toasted even. One bite and I threw it away away. Egg and bacon tasted old. There was a funny taste to it. The cheese was imitation cheese that did not even melt. Can’t believe they call themselves a Mexican truck when their Pico DE Gallo is not even tasty.

If you’re looking for Mexican food this is not the place! I just bought the beef burrito and boy does it fall short of my expectations! The rice was both under cooked and over cooked! Crunchy rice is NEVER a good thing! They added a glob of cheddar cheese that didn’t melt. And the old Wendy’s mantra comes to mind… Where’s the beef?! $ 8 is extremely overpriced for what I was served. My 1st clue should’ve been the absence of a line during lunch rush! Lesson well learned!

I am sorry but this place was disgusting. I had a burger that was cold and chips that were stale and in crumbs. Really?! I could have had a better meal at Burger King and this is a food truck that’s supposed to be better than fast food crap!

Just tried this truck at 7th& Fig. I had the pork burrito. It’s probably the most bland burrito I’ve ever had. If a Chipotle burrito is an 8 out of 10, this is a 2 out of 10. Any local taco stand/truck would be better. Stuffed with rice and hardly any meat. Not recommended.

My friend and I went here for lunch and I ordered a burrito with a side of mashed potatoes, and he got a breakfast plate. The burrito was $ 8 and the potatoes were $ 4 but they were both on the small side portion-wise. I don’t know if today was just an off-day, but we both received crunchy, undercooked rice in our food. Overall, it just wasn’t that great. Not sure if I’ll come back here again.

Mexican and Irish fusion??? This just boggles the mind but upon closer examination what you have here is a truck that makes some Mexican dished and some Irish dishes. I tried the Paddy’s pulled pork sandwich. I must say it impressed me. Good flavor in the pork and the texture was spot on. And with the apple spread this is a very unexpected treat. Haven’t tried anything else here, haven’t seen them lately. Hopefully they’re still around. And to the guy who took offense to the Chicago Dog, lighten up dude! It’s not what they call it that’s important. It’s how it tastes that matters. If you really want a genuine Chicago dog then GOTOCHICAGO!!! Don’t expect to get one from a Mexican-Irish fusion truck in Los Angeles!

I’ve never seen this truck before, so when I happened to spot it at Le Mans Body shop in El Segundo, I decided to give it a try. I had a bowl of chili(with sour cream and cheese), and one of the variations of «meat and potatoes,» which, tonight, was the roast pork with sweet apples and onions. All I can say it, «Wow!!». What a treat! I could taste the quality and the attention to detail. The food was the most perfect blend of sweet, savory, and spicy. A nice little touch is that they have a small counter at ground level with a person there to take your order and to answer questions. There’s no need to shout up your order through a window. I was a bit disappointed that the temperature of the food was not quite hot enough; however, they had just parked, and I was their first customer, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt this time. Just as long as they keep coming back to El Segundo, because it’s close to where I work!

This rating is based on what they laughingly call a Chicago Dog. Had they just slapped me across the face with it they could not have been more insulting. Yo Jose — let me count the ways this is NOT a Chicago Dog: 1. A Chicago Dog comes on a poppy-seed bun, yours has never seen a single poppy seed. 2. A Chicago Dog has 2 tomato wedges — not a mess of chopped tomato. 3. A Chicago Dog has that toxic-waste green relish, a shade never seen in nature. Yours doesn’t have that. 4. A Chicago Dog has sport peppers — at least 2 of them. Not the zero sport peppers on yours. 5. A Chicago Dog is sprinkled with celery salt. Yours has none. That means is is not in any way, shape or form a Chicago Dog. #FAIL

This is just based off the mashed potatoes. I had their«famous» mashed potatoes and it was ehh. I asked the woman which one I should get since they had several types to try. She said everyone loves their pork, onion, apple mashed potatoes so I tried that one. I got it, and it came in one of those chinese rice take out food boxes, which i thought was cute. Then I took a bite of the mashed potatoes and I thought… that’s it? Now i’m not one for sweet mashed potatoes so if you don’t want sweet and you want savory, try their chili, irish, or whatever else they have. The one I had was sweet and I wasn’t too fond of it. I love mashed potatoes and it’s definitely creamy, but I think i’ll just stick with garlic mashed potatoes. The reason why it’s jose O Malley’s is bc their eclectic menu of mexican and potato dishes(irish) bring these two things together in one truck… i’m not one to crave mexican and irish at the same time: P

While checking out some food trucks in my area one particular day I came across this brightly colored truck. I check out their website and right away I see brownie on a stick… I thought to myself I gotta have one of those. I go down t the truck and look at their neon written menu and order a Death by Chocolate brownie on a stick, and so I don’t eat dessert for dinner I order the famous mashed potatoes with some carne asada on top. I get the mashed potatoes in a chinese takeout box which I found amusing. It felt like it needed a little salsa on top but overall it was pretty good. What made me a fan of this truck was the Death by Chocolate. The nice people offer me a bag so I don’t get chocolately goodness all over my fingers while holding it before I even eat the thing. There’s a decent thick layer of chocolate over this brownie that has walnuts inside all on a popsicle stick. It was delicious. You must try it. Your sweet tooth will thank you.

This is one of the smallest trucks in town, yet Jose has one of the biggest menus. Half Gringo and Half Mexicano this trucks wants to be all things to all folks, and maybe had I ordered other specialties like the Breakfast Burritos or Mashed Potatoes, I might have been happier with my meal, but to be honest, I was a little disappointed that my chili was incredibly watery. You get a large portion topped with sour cream and a little cheese for $ 4.50, but the problem was that there was almost a centimeter of chili colored watery gunk competing with the sour cream to dominate the surface of the bowl. Perhaps stirring it would have helped, but I really couldn’t because the bowl was full to the brim. I had to use my spoon as a skimmer and take off about 7 or 8 teaspoonfuls before i could even begin. Of course I tried a couple, but basically had to dump some on the pavement before I could dig in. Not a great way to start the meal. If this is an ongoing problem, they may wish to be sure not to top the bowls off to the last micron, or maybe serve a piece of bread alongside to use as a soaker. Once I got into the chili, it had a mild flavor and the bean to meat ratio was. Maybe they were going for an al dente thing, but to me the beans were came across as undercooked. Maybe another hour or two in the pot might have helped, but i was disappointed. I also got two tacos, a beef and a chicken, and these were much better. They were loaded with meet and cilantro and had an interesting radish slice atop each one. These also came with an outstanding salsa verde. and are the reason I am giving Sr. O’Malley the two stars. I was wobbling between two and three, but while I was waiting I did notice that they never bothered to put up the required City of LA «No-Smoking within 40 feet of the truck» sign. When I pointed it out to the gentleman running the truck, he seemed unconcerned. His flippant answer was that no one was smoking just now. So I decided to round downward, Gourmet Food Truck #164 on my never-ending quest to try every truck in «So Cal»

I tracked this truck down solely for the Death by Chocolate dessert. Who wouldn’t want to try a double dipped Belgian chocolate walnut brownie on a stick? Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was disappointed. The brownie was dry and the walnuts were scant. The double dipped chocolate aspect could only get me so far. Sigh… The truck is brightly colored and they definitely bring a certain visual panache to food trucking. Unfortunately, looks don’t improve the taste/quality of the grub. As long I don’t suspect I might pick up a parasitic worm from the truck kitchen, the visual appeal of the truck doesn’t influence me much one way or the other. Alas, there are many other trucks on street out there, thank goodness… The hunt continues.

Maybe my mashed potato expectations were too high but Jose O’Malley’s fell a little flat for me. On numerous different occasions I had tried to get my mashed fix from this truck. And on numerous occasions they had sold out of said mashed potato. But I kept my energy up and assured myself that this meant they had amazing mashed potatoes! The pleasant lady who sits in front of the truck is absolutely hilarious. She was making all these great jokes about Mexicans and Irishmen(as per the truck’s name and logo.) It was a riot. When I finally ordered these mashed potatoes I got them with added pork and corn(porn.) They were out in a jiffy and I was so excited. My initial thoughts were good. I loved the cute little Chinese takeout containers and the pork was well seasoned. The dish was a little short on the corn(especially for something that typically cost an extra dollar) but it still added a good flavor. When I got a bite with pork, corn and tater it was a real treat. But that only happened for a little bit as the ratio of pork to tater was about 1 to 4. This would be fine if the mashed potatoes stood up to a solo taste test but I didn’t find that to be the case. On their own the mashed potatoes were extremely bland. There was little to no seasoning. They were desperate for a dash of pepper and a shimmy of salt. Instead of wasting the calories I ended up tossing the remainder of the potato. frownface. With all the mixings of culture happening on this truck there is definitely potential for me to find a favorite dish. Especially since the staff here is such a joy. I hope to come back and have a really mind blowing, palate pleasing experience!

This food truck reminds me SO much of Kirstie Alley on Dancing with the Stars. It’s like, you see her, you know who she is, you don’t expect too much out of her, she looks kinda pretty sometimes, and then sometimes like a man in drag, but DAMN she blows you away with her finesse and personality on the dance floor! She knows how to move her thick curves and cankles! When you see the menu for Jose O’ Malley’s, it’s the same exact thing. It’s kinda like, oh okay, cool, another food truck. Okay, this one happens to be a punch in the face full of color, interesting. Oh, and it serves some American food with a bit o’ Irish and some Mexican food. No big deal. But DAMN, this truck exceeded my expectations. This is why I’m giving it 4 stars. The truck came to my workplace and with the recommendations from the lady taking orders in front of the truck, I ordered the Meat + Potatoes, an Earthquake Cheesecake, and of course an horchata. The Meat + Potatoes consists of their delicious mashed potatoes with your choice of meat on top. They have a good selection of about 5 or 6 meats to choose from and I chose the carne asada. Good stuff. It reminded me of a shephard’s pie(which I adore) with a splash of carne asada flavor. The best part of the meal was of course the Earthquake Cheesecake. Again, I didn’t expect much, but it was so much better than I thought it would be. It’s deconstructed, so it’s not your typical cheesecake composition. More parfait in form. The cheesecake was very creamy and tasty, and the crumble, MYGAH, the crumble was mighty NIIIIICE(for that last statement, think creepy bayou accent ala«Deliverance»). I LIKEDOINGACCENTS. Back off! All the food comes in small Chinese take-out boxes(so…many…cultures…so…confused…) so the portions are all pretty small, but apparently it was enough to fill me up. Yes, my stomach seems to be shrinking and I am no longer a man:(. I do have to say though that the Chinese boxes are a good idea for easy handling and on-the-go eating. On a pop-singer scale of Lady Gaga(10) to KEdollarsignHA /Miley Cyrus(0⁄1 respectively), I’d give this truck a good, solid Rebecca Black(7.5). Meaning, I wouldn’t spit on it’s hubcap if I saw it on the street again; rather, I’d probably welcome it into my life again with open arms. And yes, I’m serious, I ADORE the one and only Ms. Black and her muzak.

Jose O’Malleys is quite the sight to see when you see it parked on the sidewalk. The food truck is covered with a retro-futuristic print and pictures which go well with the theme of the truck. The mashed potatoes were pretty good if you like your potatoes sweet this is the place to go. The Pork i had with my potatoes was good, and the apple onion chutney was super sweet. I enjoyed the food, but it it wasn’t mind blowingly good. The pork made my mashed potatoes super oily which made me not enjoy them so much, but i guess i will have to try other meats to see if it makes any difference. The earthquake cheesecake was ok. The cheesecake portion had a good consistency but i wasn’t the biggest fan of the crust or flavor. The barbacoa taco was pretty good, the meat did have decent flavor but again it wasn’t amazing The portion sizing for what you get is ok it won’t top you off but its still decent. the mashed potatoes with meat was 6 dollars and the container was like a small chinese food take out box. note that it is smaller than the you would think a 6 dollar mashed potatoes, the cheese cake which was 4.75 dollars was even smaller, and the 3 dollar taco was smaller than most street tacos i’ve had. Conclusion: interesting food but not amazing. expensive for what you get. I don’t think i will really ever crave it but it nice to try it once.

A solid three star affair, outside of what folks review based on a ‘cute’ factor… The food was taco truck mash up with some Celt flare. Was it all that, not really. It is good, just not the great everyone boasts about. I guess since it was mid-day and not at some food truck rally, it didn’t blow me away. Nevertheless, the breakfast burrito was hefty and left me full, from the rooter to the tooter… Actually had to take a few laps late in the day to wake up from the food coma. Also ordered a side of the mashed potatoes(plain) for curiosity and wonder. After a few bites, I’d had my fill. They were yummy but the advert on the truck didn’t lie; use tons of butter on the potatoes. It was so rich, the four of five bites did me solid. Perhaps they can get a mini-portion? Nice service as well, so if I stroll down Sunset again, I may give them another try…

I can’t say that I will ever miss this truck if it’s parked on the side of the road. In fact, I doubt anyone who isn’t legally blind will miss it. You seriously have to give this truck points for making sure it stands out. It’s like the Liberace of the food truck scene. It’s bright and colorful. I was almost certain that it was some sort of circus clown car because it does have this strange pattern and there’s this lady outside of it as if she was selling tickets to the show. What do you get here? The works! You get your options of classic American food that you expect to find straight out of the 60’s. You have a lot of Mexican options. Prices are pretty comparable and all around reasonable for a plate of the size you’re getting. I tried the Irish tacos and that was surprisingly good. I mean, really really good. I’ve gotten to the point that I generally see the fusion trucks charging a lot for what amounts to an average taco. But this one was really good. I suppose it should be mentioned that there’s a brownie on a stick here. Why? Because it is pretty good. So if you can still see or not suffering from an epileptic seizures from the bright colors of the truck, you may want to get one of those. Nice service and tasty food at pretty good food truck prices. Well worth stopping by to check out the menu if you see it on your foot commute.

ROFL Look at this truck! It’s so cute! It’s all colorful with the sparkly lights, neon paints, glow in the dark markers… And they have the counter outside, the couches, and the TVs with old school cartoons… Wait, is this a foodtruck, or a retro Ikea? Well, this is the José O’Malley’s foodtruck. You hear«José» and«O’Malley’s» and the first thing that came to my mind was«Mexican and Irish? Say it ain’t so!» So I show up, and see this… amalgam of lights, colors, and sounds. It’s like a mobile party! But they serve food! It will say American & Mexican food, but in reality, this really is a Mexican/Irish fusion foodtruck. Now if only they could serve Guinness off a truck… The menu is kinda all over the place, and I couldn’t exactly decide on one, so I picked the first on their menu, the Paddy’s Pork Sandwich. From the outside, it looked like a normal sandwich. It came in a wrapper just like at typical fastfood restaurants. When we unwrapped it, all we saw was bread and shredded pork, which looked dry. Feeling disappointed, we quartered the sandwich so we could all try, unknowing that cutting the sandwich revealed a dark-colored spread inside. Curious, we all took that bite, leaving us with a look of bewilderment as we tried to figure out what we just bit into. First off, the pork was deceptively juicy — for as dry as it looked, it burst into juicy meatiness when we bit it. And then there was that dark-colored mysterious sauce that was not listed on the menu… Sweet, fruity, small hint of spice… But unknown to my taste buds. Questioning the chefs on the truck revealed it to be an apple-onion chutney. This made me sad that I had to split the sandwich, as I then wanted that entire sandwich for myself. So they are capable of entertaining crowds, and making tremendous food? You can bet I will be back for sure to try the rest of their food!

Day 2 of the Valley Food Truck Fest and I am making my rounds to check out each truck menu and figure out which 5 trucks will get my limited bites today… … and then BAM! What do I see? Is it possible? A truck I an not following? How can this be? First of all, the truck is Jose O’Malley’s and right n the front it says«We’re food experts — we’ve been eating all our lives!». .which cracks me up right from the start. Then there is a picture of a red headed kid eating a taco, so I am kinda wondering how good it will be. However, I am on a mission to try each food truck at least once. Sometimes it is good, and other times. well let’s just leave it at that. So, I walk up and I am trying to decide whether I want the Pork or Beef. I am having trouble deciding, when the gal tells me that she will make it easy for me, they were out of beef. Well … Thank goodness, because otherwise I might not have been able to decide… LOL Anyways, I ask them if they are new and I start talking to Denise who tells me they are fairly new and opened up about 3 weeks ago. I am thinking 3 weeks? Where have I been? So I get my pork taco, and I am still wondering how it is going to taste with a name like Jose O’Malley… Irish /Mexican Taco??? I take my bite and it was quite good! I know, you can get a taco just about anywhere in the area. There are taco places on every corner and in between around here. But hey, it was good. I liked it. It was not anything like super fancy(I know some of the trucks go way out on their food items), but the meat and toppings all together was really delicious. I truly enjoyed the taco and will go back to them again because there were several menu items I would really like to try. So, good food. Good people. I will be on the look-out for them in the future and be back to update my review when I get a chance to eat more. Meanwhile, two thumbs up!

I saw the Jose O’Malley’s truck at the Dia de los Muertos event at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and had to have it. I got in line to buy some tacos. I know it’s not an authentic taco truck(just look at the logo with the redhead eating a taco… too cute), but for a Mexican-food-loving, Irish girl like myself, I couldn’t resist. I quickly got to the front of the line, and guess who’s taking orders! MARIPATDONOVAN! Catholic school girls should know the name, as she famously does my favorite solo comedy show: Late Night Catechism. SOCOOL! Meeting her was just an added bonus on top of the fresh, affordable food being served up on the truck. We even tried their brownie on a stick, which was FANTASTIC and really good looking(good for gifts). Three of us were fighting over the last bite of one. Definitely a truck to try!
