Simply Amazing some of the best burgers in Los Angeles. The service is outstanding, and so is the atmosphere.

Well, well, well… everything is great. This is my only qualm, the«hot links». I’m from Chicago, raised on Mississippi food… these are not hot links, what we have here are large slim Jim sticks chopped up. Artificial flavor and color, when hot links taste better when they are 100% beef. I guess it’s a cheap way out, but just don’t order it. Unless you don’t mind a slim Jim, covered in hot BBQ sauce. Everything else is A1. Enjoy, but don’t say I didn’t warn you, lovely people.

Best BBQ in town. I ordered the three meats combo with rib tips, brisket, and chicken. Of the three, the brisket was my favorite. It was tender, flavorful, and had the more meat than fat. I will be back for more.

I brought my friend Pam because she lives down the street and has never been here. We split the four meat combo and the only problem we had was that we got too full to finish it. We ordered the Pork ribs, which are always very good and never disappoint. The Brisket, very flavorful, not too smokey. The Pulled pork, a great mix of bark and tender pieces of very tender pork. And the spicy Sausage. very good, not as spicy as I thought it would be. But still very good. So far everyone that I’ve brought here for lunch or dinner has loved it and come back. I recomend this place to everyone I know that wants to try Barbecue.

BBQ is still good, but customer service is just as important and the wife’s/sister’s is terrible. The man who owns it and does all the cooking, has a personality the size of Jupiter. He’s always nice to all of his patrons. I’m not expecting her to compete with him, but be pleasant to the people who are paying money for your food.

I was craving something heavy and simple so I decided to drop by here since I was in the area. First off, this place is an outdoor seating only restaurant. You order from the window and the lady will bring it out to you after. I got the double cheeseburger combo, which came with fries and a drink. Boy was this burger huge. It’s not a premium burger, but it’s more so like a mom and pop homemade burger. Pretty good and you will definitely be full from just the burger alone. They also gave a lot of fries, and as hungry as I was at the time, I couldn’t finish everything. Price + Tax for the combo was almost 10 bucks. There’s a small parking lot next to the restaurant, but it’s shared with other tenants in the lot.

First time at J&J. I’ll probably come back. Having lived in Texas for 10 years it does remind me of the B-B-Q there.

Freaking amazing! Best turkey cheeseburger and fries ever. What this place lacks in «fancyness» it makes up for in character of the place and a finger lickin’ goooooooooooood«I ate way too much» taste. Don’t judge a book by its cover, don’t misjudge based on its looks. Looks can be deceiving. Well worth the stop. My husband and I had turkey cheeseburgers w home(seasoned) fries. Burgers looked good, simple but when bit into them we knew they were anything but. They were soooo good!

Always suspicious of a barbecue place with«burger» in the name. Grilling ain’t smoking and vice versa. Deeply relieved to find the burger and barbecue concerns completely separate from one another at JNJ Burger Shack. Confidence was further inspired by the fire wood side business right on site, the serious business, industrial quality smoker in clear view and by the very personable pit master who seemed equal parts serious and capable. He ably assisted me in ordering the four meat combo, which consisted of beef ribs, pork ribs, brisket and burnt ends, coleslaw on the side. The site and the staff at JNJ have the right look and feel. What could go wrong? My criticism of every meat on the plate is the same: C– ingredients, C+ preparation. No doubt these meats were smoked but the flavor just failed to arrive or to properly permeate some how. In the case of the beef ribs, the meat was a touch less fresh than they could have been and not smoked to point where the meat was easily enough yielded by the bone. A formula for sinew laden teeth. The brisket too, not at the peek of freshness also needed more time under the smoker, as the fat had not yet really rendered down as much as it needed to. The pork ribs and burnt ends were the best meats on the plate, but in neither case was the barbecue flavor forward enough. Reached out for help to all three sauces(Mild, Medium, Hot) and was variously disappointed by each. Flavor was flatly unremarkable and it was very difficult to discern between the three alleged levels of heat. Hot? Hardly. This marks only second time in my life where I did not complete a plate of barbecue. Even thought better of keeping my take out box to the benefit of a very grateful homeless guy I met. Oddly the best on the plate at JNJ was the slaw. Nothing fancy and perhaps a touch too wet but still very tasty. The price is very agreeable too. The combo I got was enough for 2 or 3 people and was only about $ 30. I REALLY wish the barbecue had been better.

I ordered the double turkey with cheese and fries and drink for 9 dollars. I thought that was a good price. This little burger spot sits on the corner of Adams and Spaulding amid a whimsical shopping center of quaint lil stores made from cargo containers. The location has a very San Francisco artist’s vibe with an adorable organic farm to fresh market stand, clothing stores with one of a kind pieces, art, vinyl and a hair studio. You are going to LOVE the location, positive and friendly vibe, amazing and dedicated store owners and the feeling that this is a village where being unique and bold is loved upon. Oh, wait… back to JnJ burgers. Uhm… wilted lettuce, sparse and wilted tomatoes, soggy and depressed pickle. Actually, all their condiments looked like they needed some prozac. The patty was just a patty. There was nothing special to write home about. It was a lot of food and I could not even eat half so that is a plus. They also have a nice outdoor seating area that overlooks the shopping village.

*review for gluten free options* This place is amazing. I ordered the Jim double burger lettuce wrapped and damn it was beautiful. Their chili does have flour in it so that is not celiac friendly, but they will happily lettuce wrap your burger! It’s messy but good. The bacon is also amazing. Some places have funky tasting bacon they put in their burgers(I’m lookin at you five guys) but this place has thick tasty peppery bacon. They grill the onions and you can get extra toppings but they do charge.

I’ve not eaten the BBQ side so this review is limited to the burgers. First what a great guy«J» is the proprietor, friendly helpful, humble. We tried a few variations of the burgers. The bacon was tasty, the chili wonderful and the meat, seemed like hand made patties, wholesome, tasty like beef, not frozen. The double is huge. old school, humble place, cozy patio solicitous staff, onsite parking .when in the Fairfax Aams area again i will return for the BBQ too

Not sure what happened… I read all these great reviews on this place and so I went to lunch one day and ordered a cheeseburger. It was pathetic. Basically looked and tasted like a hockey puck. If you don’t believe me check out the pic. How could you even be proud of serving your customer something like that. Was DISGUSTING.

(Now that I’ve been back and eaten at the grill side for burgers and such, while it was good, come back for the BBQ which is bomb!) We came in the summer and so the fly problem was REALLYREALLYBAD. Otherwise, I did enjoy the sausage, cole slaw, potato salad, those were my faves. And the bbq in general was very good. I scraped off most of the bbq sauce that came with everything as they pour a ton on there. The location of this place is great too cause it’s in a little«community» of sorts so we walked around a bit after eating. Everything on the menu looks good and the service was great. Highly recommend. Other great bbq places are Charcoal Venice(sit down pricey place), Baby Blues, The Hungry Pig, not really a huge fan of Bludso’s, Western Smoke House is not really consistent and really wish it was, I still need to try Maple Block Meat Co., Morfia’s Ribs & Pies, Holy Cow BBQ.

Really loved the BBQ here! Came in to get some ribs and some burgers and everyone left happy. The location is super small but super cool with plenty of seating and options. The staff is super friendly and really makes the experience complete. Good food cooked home style with a friendly smile, they definitely have a long term customer in me. The only thing that I can even remotely complain about is the lack of parking, but with that gripe aside I will be coming back and bringing lots of friends.

Super juicy and rich burger. Glad we didn’t get double-double(à la In-n-Out), it would have been too much. The fries were crispy on the outside and yummy soft on the inside. Order at the window, pay and grab a seat on the side patio. Friendly and efficient service. Would definitely come back for when we have a hankering for a quick burger bite. Private parking lot, not too big and we had no problem getting a spot since we came at a slow time before the dinner rush.

4.5 stars. REALLY liked the BBQ here. Got the 4 meat combo with beef rib, hot link, pork belly and chicken. The beef rib was a bit tough and my least favorite. All the others were exceptional, especially the hot link! Got the spicy sauce and I was sweating. True Louisiana style. Got the potato salad and cole slaw, which was a good choice to cool you down from the spicy BBQ. Also very tasty. The 4 meat combo was a good amount of food for me and my gf. The lemonade here is also very good. Order your BBQ on one side and burgers on the other. Gotta come back for a burger! Charming place with these great picnic tables. All outdoor seating. Plenty of easy street parking. Beware of the flies, as they also like JNJ’s.

The first few times I went here, I was in BBQ heaven. Their meats were smoked to tender and juicy perfection, and their burger was outstanding to boot. However, I have a slight complaint … I came today and ordered a pound of rib tips to go. When I came home, ripping open the bag to reach bbq nirvana, my soul came to a weeping halt when I saw my «pound» of succulent rib tips. I’m posting a picture of the pound of rib tips I got back in June, and the pound of rib tips i got today. It was literally less than half of what I got last time. I put it on my food scale and it didn’t even register half a pound. Come on, guys. Your food is so amazing, why would you do that to me? It seriously hurts to be giving JNJ a two star review, because their food is THAT good, but this is so not acceptable … **UPDATE. Okay, so I noticed that the pictures don’t properly depict the injustice I felt today. Let me assure you that I never post a negative review unless it is fully warranted. The picture of rib tips in June are double layered whereas today’s picture is a dinky single layer.

OUTSTANDINGBBQINCULVERCITYAREA! This place is family owned and operated by a husband and wife team. They’re ridiculously friendly and really know their stuff! This is the kind of place you could pass by and never know it was even here. It’s very unassuming which actually is a good thing because when I went during peak lunch hours the other day, it’s wasn’t too busy and there was plenty of free parking in this area. There’s JNJ Burger Shack and there’s JNJBBQ Shack right next door so be mindful of that. They’re two separate places with two distinct menus. Pork Ribs –juicy –crisp exterior –meaty –fall off the bone Brisket –über tender –juicy, flavorful Beans –amazing –sweet and savory Potato salad –overall very good –perfect compliment to the sweet ribs When I’m in the mood for BBQ again, I’ll definitely be back!
