I tried soooooo hard to have a good time when they sat us outside and said we could watch the show on a screen … but then the screen didnt work. And we tried to watch through the side doors while they said there was still a 2 drink minimum until the waitress came out and shut the door and said, sorry… Iol Not the best night ever… The waitress Q was super nice tho

Despite the mixed reviews I read on Unilocal,I decided to come here with my husband for a date. J. Anthony Brown used to host comedy night at Maverick ‘s Flat back in the day and it was always a great time so I decided to give it a try. I called the night before to get the 411 since I had never been. I spoke to someone named Iboree, who was getting her information from someone named Reggie in the background. I asked what time the show and dinner started and they said 8. I asked other logistical questions and thought I was all set. Wrong. When we got there, we were told that tonight(Saturday) was a «promoted event» and there was«a strict $ 20 cover charge». I told her I’d called and asked for info about tonight and a cover was not mentioned. Also, my reservation meant nothing. We left. I wouldn’t have minded having to pay if I had gotten accurate info when I called and we were annoyed.

This comedy club was the spot to be several years ago. It was always packed, comedians were hilarious, and it was nice to participate in the stiletto strut. ;) Since then, its days of operation and events have become inconsistent. A few months ago, I inquired about reserving this place for my birthday. I checked the website but couldn’t leave email messages because everything was outdated. I made a LOT of calls and left a LOT of messages over 3 weeks! I never got a return call. To think you have to beg to GIVEAWAY your money, right?! Finally, I got hold of a young gentleman who took a message for the manager to call me back. A week later, nothing. I called again and spoke to the same guy. He was a bit confused as to why the call wasn’t returned, but helped me anyways. The birthday package prices were ridiculously expensive for the food and drink that was included. suggested I could bring a deposit to secure a table spot, so I opted to do that instead. I was never told when/how to pay the deposit. Needless to say, I told my friends to show up before 8 for free entry, just in case. There was one guy outside and no one at the window when we got there. The gentleman greeted and told us to walk right in. We were seated at a good table and never had to mention the birthday reservation or pay the deposit, which was perfectly fine with me! The show went on and I won 2nd place in the stiletto strut after being requested to get up several times. Food is mediocre and overpriced. Drinks are okay. I don’t like how they force you to buy 2 drinks. A few of my friends don’t drink liquor at all and it is ridiculous for them to have to drink soda or something to fulfill the purchase requirements. Not to mention, service isn’t the greatest and is very slow. If you force people to buy food/drink at least make it worth their money. Fast forward a few months. One of my girls was in town so several of us decided to check out the J Spot… on a Thursday… which online says it’s open. Got there and go figure. There wasn’t a person in sight! Doors were closed and the club was closed. Nine of us waited around idly to decide what our next move would be. We ended up across the street at the GS Sportsbar. Thanks, J Spot, for the professionalism!

Despite the not so good reviews, me and my hunnie still wanted to try this place cause we never go to comedy clubs anyway. I really liked it, the comics were hilarious in my opinion. If i go somewhere to laugh thats exactly what I want to do and I got some good laughs in here. Upon entering at 7:30 we were seated at a nice table in the middle of the room not to far from the stage and not to close. Our waitress was very slow but very nice so the fact that she took a little while didnt bother us since she was so sweet and we saw here working multiple tables so we could tell she was busy but when she took our order she offered a few recommendations, smiled and was very polite, I got no attitude at all. We ordered the catfish which was very good, fried well and seasoned perfect. The drinks were good too. They were named after comedians, that was a nice touch. The comedians talked about a range of things while on stage, I was definitely laughing and i didnt feel like any of them went overboard when they talked about the audience and honestly sit in the font your asking for it. However no one was disrespectful in my opinion. I had a nice time overall. We left around 11 and saw about 5 comics, thats was good enough for us. We would return again in the future.

I ordered the wings and fries. The wings were overcooked and the fries were cold. The service was extremely slow. The entertainment was just okay. In addition you must order at least two drinks even if you order food. They also automatically add a 15% tip to your check.

Literally writing review onside this place. Service is beyond terrible, 20 minutes and no one came to ask if we wanted a drink if it wasn’t because I am guest I would have walked out.

To start when i walked in it was hot i mean sweating when i asked the waitress about the ac she had a additude, my drink was in a dirty glass they charged me 5 dollars more for the same drink when i ordered another to top it off after they finally turn on the ac and i get comfortable i get kicked out my seat that i was sitting in for the last hour cause it’s vip and bottle service but they give my table to someone who didn’t buy no bottle. If not for Kwe Johnson I probably wouldn’t go back but his customer service is A1 if he is not on your staff you need to get him J spot.

Attended the show 6÷11÷15… You can tell the waitresses hate their jobs. Lacked energy, enthusiasm, & customer service skills. Ordered onion rings & never got them… didn’t sweat it cause of the waitress was nasty and annoyed upon arrival. Beginning of the show was Super outdated, got better as the night went on, guess you really save the best for last? Only plus were the wings & drinks.

I have been coming to this comedy club for years. There have been several nights where it was just me a few other tables the staff and the comedians and I loved every min of it. Fast Forward to Thursday April, 16th i called before coming to see if they still had the Happy Hour which has been 2 for 1 until 8:30. Instead of the response being NO the phone was passed to 3 different people none who were the manager because she was out of town for the response to be we’ve never had a 2 for 1. SMH The lady then came back on the phone and said i have good news it is free for ladies all night. I’m a regular so that isn’t news at all because it is always free for ladies on Thursday. Already knowing the night was going to be un organized and frustrating i decided to drive to the J Sport to be greeted with a empty club and 3 women at the host stand who immediately said to me Cover $ 15. Excuse me? I just called here and they said it was free for women all night. Her response was who did you talk to. Either that’s the price or not it should’t matter who i spoke with. Her reply was since you said you talked to someone i will let you in THISTIME. From there it went down hill. She attempted to sit us at the very first table in the front of a empty club. When i requested a different table she gave so much attitude. Usually this is where i sit people and I’m the manager this week. Blah Blah Blah. Look here lady i’m not going to argue with you over a table and as a manger you should learn how to talk to people. With that being said i will take my money and business else where. I would like to say i would never return but my friends are comedians and I love to support them. Not sure who these new ladies are that are claiming manager but titles do nothing for me. I don’t care if you are the janitor you should know how to talk to customers. Whoever this lady was should never be left in charge. Really $ 15 cover after i was told free. Sounds like someone can’t be trusted!

Finally!!! I’ve been talking of coming to this spot forever and tonight, I made it. The spot itself is not bad, but the service was poor. The woman at the front was unorganized, like this was a grand opening or something. You should order your two drinks simultaneously, because it took the waitress at least 20 minutes, from the time I ordered, to bring my drinks. I saw 6 comedians…3 were very funny, 2 were ok, and 1 should’ve switched places with me! Overall, not a bad experience. I will give it another shot!

It was my first time going to this comedy club. The environment was nice and friendly. No drama. My only complaint was that the service took a very long time. To put it to you this way, my lemon pepper wings came first(which were delicious), and right before I finished my last few fries that came along with it, the waitress waddled along with my rum/juice. Oh, and my drink was $ 9 and beyond watered down. They have signs everywhere that say«two drink minimum», but I’m guessing they don’t enforce it because everyone in my party only had one drink. Other than that, the comedians were hilarious. The headliner was Red Grant. Oh, & I also had the pleasure of meeting and taking a picture with Snopp Dogg who was in attendance. Last words of advice, get there early because the line does get long and you will be seated in a crap spot. There is free parking available, but I’d suggest getting there early for that as well because the lot fills up quickly. Dress code is dressy casual, but most people strongly lean toward the casual.

I went here for my birthday last friday seeing as it was a local comedy club and I haven’t been to it in a long time. I went online to check out how to get tickets and it mentioned calling to get put on the guest list at 3. I called several times and even went to the location and no one was there. I finally got an answer at 7 that advised that if i got to the place by 8 that there was no cover which was cool. We actually got there at 830 and there was $ 15 cover which isn’t too bad. While inside the place was a good size. We were sat down and advised there was a two drink minimum. The drinks were pretty standard I guess for LA averaging about at $ 12 and they had a lot of interesting drink combinations. I ended up getting the«J Anthony» which was pretty good. As far as food I ended up getting the shrimp and fries which was pretty good and also cost a standard $ 13. My date got lemon pepper wings that was also seasoned well and was pretty good. As far as the service, I felt it was pretty bad. When my date asked him for suggestions on things like the food and drinks, he really was no assistance. The server would give us our drinks one by one instead of at the same time and they would be like 10 minutes apart. It was hard to get a hold of him for simple things such as water and ketchup. When it came to the check, his %15 gratuity was already added into the bill. When asked why that was done he said so we didn’t have to worry about it which was weird. When it came to the comedy(The thing I was really their for) it was pretty good. There was no comedian there I had heard of but all of them kept me laughing. I can’t remember the host but he kept the crowd involved without being too disrespectful. I also liked how they wouldn’t keep the lesser funnier comedians on the stage for too long. I

I really like this local spot. My friends and I were sitting around a few weeks ago, and decided no the spur of the moment to visit this spot. We went for $ 3 Tuesday(as of 2015, they are no longer open on Tuesdays), and had a blast. As a matter of fact, we had so much fun that I’m putting together a group from work for this Thursday. My friends ordered tacos and fries(I think), they really enjoyed them. They had a good selection of wine and other spirits… and the server was exceptional. As I’ve said before, I really like patronizing local spots… and this is a place that I highly recommend. Ivan from the J Spot was so helpful and supportive when I told him that I was going to put together a group. I love comedy clubs in general, and am happy that this one is in my neighborhood. I’m looking forward to this week, and will update this post with some pictures.

My stomach is still hurting from laughing so hard. 5 stars for entertainment. 3 stars for food and drinks. 2.5 stars for service. A great place to go for a good laugh. Food & drinks are however mediocre. There either aren’t enough people on staff or they’re lacking adequate training. Expect to wait a ridiculous amount of time for your order to arrive. They do have a 2 drink minimum which I have no problem with but it took forever for our 2nd round to arrive. What was the reason for that? Well according to our waitress they ran out of clean glasses and she was waiting for them to be washed. Nope that’s not a joke; that really did happen.
