Got the Hoy-Ka noodle soup w/pork. First time eating pig liver. There’s only a little bit in there, compared to the other varieties of pork, so it’s barely worth mentioning, but it was my first time trying it so I’ll offer my observations: looks kinda like a chihuahua’s tongue, flavor is more mild than beef liver, but still not my thang. All the other pork was yummy, noodles had nice texture, broth had a mild, sweet flavor. I loaded heaping spoons of chili powder into mine to spice it up. Yum. Unfortunately, my dessert was bungled: the mango mousse was frozen so solid that I couldn’t even press the spoon into it. I gave up — I was afraid that if I tried too hard, I’d catapult the thing across the room or knock the table over. Probably both. Then the meal would have finished with me, crying on the floor, beside an overturned table, surrounded by food and broken glass. It certainly was refreshing to have my lunch outing *not* end like that, for a change. Next time, I’ll bring a blowtorch and a pair of pliers and get Medieval on that mousse. I took it to go and it was defrosted(and delicious) when I got back to work, so, no big deal. Service was great. As usual, the ladies winked and smiled at me and laughed at all my jokes(that did not happen, never has, and never will.) I like the little story behind the restaurant name, about people eating noodles by the river, with their legs dangling over the water. Am I the only one who imagined them as camp counselors, slurping soup, obliviously, as little Jason Voorhees drowned before them, and then a duplicate scene, years later, with different camp counselors eating noodles, feet dangling, having their heads lopped off with a machete by a full grown Jason in a goalie mask? Probably. I bet most of you imagined this idyllic scene turning disastrous with a shark or an alligator biting off a foot or two, or a whole leg, or drowning a screaming victim in blood-churning water while the others looked on in horror. You guys are sick!

My girlfriend and I love Thai food and it just so happened that this little gem was right around the corner from our Airbnb. The place has nice décor and you could tell that the staff wanted to make a nice space for customers. There is even some outdoor seating to enjoy the nice warm LA sun for lunch or the cool breeze for dinner. The staff were friendly and upbeat and were happy to answer the questions we had about the menu. It got the Chinese broccoli with crispy pork entrée and the Hoy-Ka noodles. The portion size for the Chinese broccoli with crispy pork was plenty to share with two people. The broccoli was very nicely done with great crunch. Many times you can overcook the veggie and it loses so much of its wonderful texture. The pork was crispy, juicy, and delicious. The Hoy-Ka noodles were nice and light with an assortment of meats and toppings. I was very impressed with the food, and the whole place in general. I’ve tried a couple other places in Thai Town, but this place is still on my mind. I’m coming back Hoy-Ka!

I looooooove Thai food and this place serves up some GOODASS THai food. I came here kinda randomly on a late Saturday night or something in dire need of food. I think my friend and I were being extremely indecisive on empty bellies and couldn’t figure out a place to eat for the LONGEST time… but we ended up coming here so thank goodness for that happy ending. We got seated right away, which was great. The place was packed enough but we were happy that we didn’t have to wait. The restaurant is also really cute, LOVE the décor and industrial feel with the exposed brick and everything. Real cute and hip. So I ordered the boat noodles(SPICY cos spicy is life) with pork. DELICIOUS. I love boat noodles cos the flavors are so bold and a combination of everything I love. Sweet, spicy, salty, rich, and I don’t even know. That soup is just everything. It comes with pork(choice of either beef, pork. and… Idk what else), liver, beef balls, etc. along with herbs and stuff and delicious noodles. I got the rice noodles upon recommendation from the waiter. BOMBBBB. I got the small size(for only $ 5!!! What the fuck), which is the PERFECT size for me. I cannot stress that. I can usually eat about 75% of a regular bowl of noodle soup and feel perfectly full/content, and have an awkward 25% left to either take home… or waste. And I hate wasting food but I also hate bringing home a pathetic little thing of leftovers. so anyway, my point is that there should be size options like this everywhere. Also tried my friend’s pork jerky and tom kha, which is some kinda tangy, sweet sour coconut soup? Sounds odd lol, but it’s good. The pork jerky was also really good, full of flavor. Everything was decently priced, the food came out quick, and I had an overall satisfying experience. So glad I live in LA now! So much access to delicious foods like this :)

I’ve been here twice now and loved it both times. The food is outstanding. With some of the dishes, you can pick your noodles from six different types of noodles: egg, flat, thin rice, angel hair, thai verimicelli, and glass noodles. They are good quality. I highly recommend getting the duck noodle soup with egg noodles. The flavor of the broth is incredible and the egg noodles are great. This dish is perfectly flavored and warm. The duck was also incredible. And the crispy pork rice dish is amazing. They got the pork perfectly — with a perfect crunch outside, and a juicy and tender inside. I also really enjoyed the pad see ew. The meat was well cooked, noodles were full of juice and flavor, and had a nice amount of vegetables. The prices are good, as everything is reasonably priced. Three dollars for a thai iced tea(which is well made) is the price it should be. Finally, the service is very friendly and attentive when you need them. I can’t wait to come back.

Craving authentic Thai noodles? This is THE original Hoy-Ka and this is your spot. Order the Hoy-Ka noodle with chicken and the flat noodles. Forget the sprouts, and go non-spicy so you can truly taste how wonderful the broth is. It’s a taste of tamarind, lemon and vinegar. If you must, just remember, spicy here means hell on earth, so order accordingly. The traditional boat noodle with its darker, stronger broth paired with thin noodles is a close second. Not a fan of the blood broth? The beef noodle is worthy follow up too. Parking is next to impossible but if you’re lucky, there’s free parking behind the restaurant.

It seems as though the more an ethnic restaurant(be it Chinese, Mexican, Armenian, or, in this case, Thai), the less authentic and the less stellar the food is. I have been going to Hoy-Ka for a few years now, ever since they were still located in Thai Town. While studying the menu for dishes to order for our group, we noticed that there was a spice level scale from 1(very mild) to 10(very spicy). Since some members of our group were not accustomed to eating spicy foods, we opted to order our dishes at diffferent levels of spiciness, with the Tom Yum with Shrimp at level 5, and the Drunken Noodles at Level 4, which the rest of the dishes were at levels 1 or 2. So, when I tasted the Tom Yum, I did taste some spiciness to it, but it was still rather mild. At places like Jitlada, ordering at a medium spicy level would produce a dish that would have me sweating bullets, and needing to cool my palate with a bottle of Singha. However, the Drunken Noodles, though also ended up not spicy, was still delicious. The rice noodles were stir fried well, giving that wok essence(wok hei). It was, perhaps, the favorite dish of the night. Another item that Hoy-ka does well is the crispy pork. Nice and crunchy, and not over-fried where it you barely chew through it(Pa-Ord Noodles) Regardless of the spiciness or lack thereof, the rest of the dishes didn’t have the flavor punch I had expected from Hoy-Ka.

Salty, sour, sweet, spicy and full of umami. Order the signature noodle dish. The staff recommend the pork over the chicken but either way you can’t go wrong. It’s all about the broth. You could put anything in that broth and it would be bomb! Larb is on point and so was the dipping sauce to the pork jerky. Excellent mastery of Thai flavors. Hip ambiance, friendly attentive service. Really nice spot for delicious, authentic Thai food.

This was my first time here and boyfriends second time. We came all the way from OC, and thank god there was no wait, because I was STARVING! I ordered the papaya salad and pork larb. My boyfriend got their boat noodles. For the spice level, we decided to get lvl 8 just to be on the safe side, since our server told us we can always add in more chili if it’s not spicy enough. The papaya was just the right amount of heat for me, however the larb was not even close to spicy. If you’re a spicy eater, I would suggest sticking to lvl 8 for the papaya salad and maybe a 9⁄10 for larb. My boyfriend also said that he should’ve gotten a lvl 10 for his noodles, but it’s all preference. Don’t forget you can always start off small if you’re unsure, and ask for extra chili on the side. Service was fast at first, then it got a bit slow as we were waiting for the boat noodles to come out. Other than that, everything else was great. They were all very friendly and attentive. It was a good experience overall and we were satisfied with the dishes we ordered. They were all flavorful and I’d say their papaya salad is the best one I’ve tried yet. We will be back the next time we’re in the area!

This place was not bad but I can’t say it was a knock my socks off Thai food either. I find Thai food in America to be very monotonous in the offerings. All Thai restaurants in the US serve very similar dishes and there is not much of a variation of style or flavor. Most dishes are overly sugared and the taste tend to be on the bland side, to cater to American tastes. There is quite a variation of food styles in Thailand. There is a large ethnic population of Chinese immigrants from Fujian and Chiu Chow and the descendants of these ethnic groups have local variations of Fujian and Chiu Chow cuisines. The Thai cuisine itself have variations between North and Southern Thailand. Even within Bangkok there will be plenty of variation throughout the city. But here in America it is pretty much the same everywhere, like Chinese and Indian restaurants. There is a routine of dishes that everyone is familiar with. I saw on Bizarre Foods, Mexico has a wide variety of dishes other than your tacos, burritos and enchiladas. One of the few exceptions are the Chinese cuisine in the San Gabriel Valley and Korean Food in K-Town, Los Angeles. Ganda which was a Thai restaurant in Thai Town, served an authentic spicy catfish and spicy pork. It changed its name to Pa Ord and shortly after that, it was closed.

3 stars for beef pad see ew I’ve had this bookmarked for a while but was not wowed with the flavors and the some of the meat was a dry and chewy. My guess is to stick with their specialties like Thai Boat Noodles. Service was polite, atmosphere is casual.

Parking: There’s a very small(and I mean small) lot in the back, and half of them are reserved. Otherwise, it’s street hunting in Hollywood. Atmosphere: A lot of wood, which gives it a lodge/cabin feel. Food: Kind of an Americanized version of Thai food, but I liked it. –Cream Cheese Wonton– of all the Asian fusion creations, these have got to be the pinnacle. –Tom Yum– Not sure how authentic this is, but it’s tangy enough to satisfy the craving. –Ka Prao– This dish is pretty massive. It’s good enough to spread around 2 – 3 people. Overall, Hoy-Ka there’s an Americanized feel to the food, but it’s not a complaint. I was very satisfied with the food and it really hit the spot.

A cheap, no-nonsense Thai spot offering both great mainstream dishes(pad thai, pad see ew) and dishes that are harder to find(crispy pork, yen ta fo). One of my perpetual struggles in life is choosing between noodle soup and crispy pork, because I’m both a soup whore and a crispy pork whore. Hoy-Ka granted my lifelong wish of ordering both without feeling like a total glutton. The crispy pork with Chinese broccoli was A++ and the Hoy-Ka broth was also A++, and they let you order both the crispy pork and the broth as a side! A cup of broth was only $ 1.5. It is literally just broth(no toppings), but it’s sooo good. If you’re from SE Asia and/or you appreciate a good cup of soup with your meal, you have to order the cup of broth as a side. The Hoy-Ka noodle soup comes in two sizes: small and large. Small is snack-sized, so definitely order the large unless you’re ordering side dishes or appetizers. The crispy pork is possibly the best I’ve had, and I’ve spent my adult life ordering crispy pork belly off every menu I’ve ever laid my eyes on. Service was fast and attentive, and our total bill was only $ 22 for two(including tips)! Absolutely worth a stop. We were here on a Sunday afternoon so we didn’t have trouble finding parking.

An extremely great place to get some very high-quality Thai food at a reasonable price. Located on Sunset Blvd, this place is a little small with an outdoor patio, but the ambience represents a restaurant/sports bar, which is cute. For the food, my party had the roasted duck red curry, pad see eiw, and beef with Chinese broccoli. The curry had plenty of meat and not over-flavored, no reliance on oil. The pad see eiw was the same story, not overly oily at all and well seasoned. The beef with Chinese broccoli was again well seasoned and it melted in your mouth. Each dish had the option of brown or white rice(we chose brown b. c we’re trying to keep our figure). And, all our dishes were level 5 out of 10 on the spicy thermometer because what’s the point of eating food so spicy you can’t even taste the flavor? Overall, one of the better Thai places in the area at a very reasonable price. Also, their Thai tea is amazing.

Incredible Thai noodles with several vegan options! The ambiance is spacious and cute, with the perfect balance of cozy tiki vibes and authentic Thai décor. The waitresses here are very sweet, and knowledgeable of the menu. I appreciate that they separate the vegetarian options to its own section of the menu. Some of them are made with oyster sauce, so make sure to specify if you aren’t down with that. My drunken noodles with tofu were perfect-some of the best noodles I have ever eaten. The mixed vegetables and tofu were cooked perfectly, and the balance of flavors was so delicious. VERYSPICY-I asked for medium spicy, and was surprised at how spicy the dish was! I love spicy food, but if you don’t, proceed with caution. Huge portion for $ 9. A must try in this area.

I just went back recently for Hoy-Ka because I couldn’t resist my cravings, and yet again I was so f*cking satisfied. The service is always on point, too. They are prompt, attentive, and friendly. As we were leaving, every single one of the servers said good-bye/thank you. I’m not saying that it’s necessary to do that, but it really does elevate the already bomb ass meal when you know that service is of top priority as well. We ordered what I like to call the«Triple Threat»(refer to my previous post) along with the red curry with pork and the drunken noodles with beef. Everyone in my group was so happy with the meal. The flavors are all bold without being salty. The spice levels are adjustable and portions are perfect. All they need is to start serving some beer! But even if they don’t ever serve alcohol, I’ll still go and that’s saying a lot coming from a libation lover like me.

Rating: 86⁄100 pts Undoubtedly one of the better choices for Thai in LA. I already have a favorite, gritty Thai restaurant not too far from here that also specializes in noodles. And while Hoy-Ka did not surpass it, it beats it in some areas and has several merits that effectively solidified it within my Thai rotation. Many restaurants in Thai Town give you the full Thai experience: affably curt service, questionable sanitation ratings, and AWESOME food for cheap. Perhaps it’s symbolic that Hoy-Ka is West of the 101, because it seems to combine the best of both worlds: service is great, it’s clean, and yet the food is still fantastic while prices remain reasonable. Oh, and tables are gloriously wooden. Just thought I’d throw that in somewhere. Without thinking, get the Hoy-Ka Noodles. It’s rightful as their namesake dish. You can choose your meat, noodle type, and level of spiciness to tailor it to your needs, but you inevitably will end up with a comfortingly delicious, peanut-y bowl of soup noodles. *I chose level 4(out of 10) for spiciness, and it was actually a white-person scale 4, unlike other places that still burn your tongue off when requesting mild(= Thai scale spiciness). Their Pad See Ew is done right. Whereas it usually comes inundated with oily at most places, I was pleasantly surprised to find that that’s not the case here. I’d also strongly recommend the Roasted Duck with Rice. For being the very last item listed under the rice dishes, hiding on the second page, this was great. The duck was not over-flavored, and there were plentiful chunks of succulent meat. No reliance on oil, sauce, or chunks of fat. Come to Hoy-Ka for a cleaner Thai experience slightly elevated over the grittiness of most other places, without compromising taste. Parking is supposed to suck, but I easily found spots on both neighboring streets Bronson and Tamarind.

This is the best thai place we have ever been to in Los Angeles, hands down. I’ve never had anything bad from this place, although certain dishes are more recommended than others. We’ll even brave the 101 traffic to come here on a weekday after work. Parking — The location is right next to the KTLA studio on sunset, and they usually take up all the street parking with production vehicles. The lot is tiny and shared with Arby’s drive through. Sometimes you’ll get lucky and get a spot, but more often than not it’s street parking 2 – 3 blocks away. Trust me, the food is worth it. Ambiance — they recently redecorated and it looks pretty cool. There are twinkle lights on the outside, although patio seating is loud and cold without heaters. It’s a kind of no frills place with some interesting touches of Thai culture. Food — We have been here maybe 10 times now, with some repeats and some new things. Few choices to recommend: Pad Thai(with chicken) — This is a very good version of the popular dish, and chicken is the best protein to go with this in my experience. It’s slightly more funky than the other places(read: more authentic use of spices). House Noodles(pork) — The broth is to die for, but I think it’s an acquired taste. There’s heavy hints of liver and other internal organs. Get the large bowl — it’s only $ 2 more and almost double the size. We usually share this as an appetizer Pad See Ew(with beef) — Very good dish, flavorful, not overly oily. A repeat winner. Sneaky Pork(new as of 04/15/2016) — We tried this since it was a new dish. This is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted, and especially at a $ 11 price point, this is unheard of. The flavor and cook on the pork can easily compare to $ 100 dishes at other restaurants. I would compare this to the suckling pig at Night + Market, with double the portion, and better flavoring. We got this medium, which was perfect in terms of the balance of dry heat to spices. Get some rice to go with this. Red Curry — I’ve tried all of their curries and this was the best one, in my opinion. The bamboo shoots and peppers help to cut into the richness of the curry. Chicken is usually my go-to in curries as it has limited«meat» taste as compared to pork and beef. Get a side of rice to go with this as well. Crispy Pork Entrée — Husband tried this and loved it, saying it’s one of the best things he’s ever tasted. We usually share dishes here, but I couldn’t do this one. The flavors are good, but it’s essentially pork skin deep fried(read: oily). I can’t stomach the oil and it’s to no fault of this restaurant(I can’t even eat fried chicken). Overall — 10/10, would come back again(as we do all the time). Better than some of the more famed and pricey places.

I was craving Thai food so we headed here for lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant is pretty big so there was no wait. We ordered the pad see ew with crispy pork and the pad ka-prao. My pad see ew was really good and the crispy pork was delicious. Fatty and crispy and perfect with the noodles. The pad ka-prao was pretty good as well. The portions here are fairly large so I recommend sharing. The reason it’s a 3, is because of the service. They took a long time to take our order and didn’t refill our water. Otherwise, I would have rounded up to a 4.

There’s no evidence of a parking lot for customers(correct me if I am wrong), so the only choice of parking is on the streets with meters. My boyfriend and I got a table instantly. The restaurant has huge windows to let in the natural sunlight, and there are choices of tables outside to enjoy that SoCal weather. I ordered the Crispy Pork Larb with Glass Noodles(located under the«Salad» section). The flavor was on point; the pork provided texture and saltiness as the noodles and the sauce was acidic(possibly vinegar?). However, the portion is small because I didn’t feel full when I finished and satisfy. The ratio between the pork and noodle is skewed as there was way more crispy pork than the glass noodles(which is a good thing for some people). I just wish I didn’t run out of noodles before finishing the pork because having the noodles with the crispy pork is the perfect combo. The bill that included my boyfriend’s meal and my meal came out to be under $ 20, so it demonstrates that this restaurant is affordable. Overall, I would go back to this place possibly one more time to order another entrée to see if it’s just the salad portions are small. It’s not the best Thai food restaurant I have been to, but it’s one of the cheaper Thai food restaurants.

Hoy-Ka quickly became one of my favorite places to eat in LA. I often see the couple that owns the place in the restaurant. More delightful than how kind they are to me, is seeing how kind they are to their staff. The result is that the staff are all thoughtful and cheerful. They always remember us and our preferences when we return, and it makes coming here feel like going to a friends place. It is so hard not to order the same thing every time I come here: 18B: the Hoy Ka Noodles with Chicken with rice noodles. This is noodle bowl is comforting, filling but not heavy and delicious. This noodle bowl is perfect. And it’s only $ 8. Have the noodles, but everything is delicious. All the traditional Thai dishes you’d expect, along with some innovations from the owner. Recently I’ve been hooked on the Thai BBQ chicken. If you see fresh mangoes behind the counter, order mango and sticky rice for dessert. It’s not on the menu. Just ask for it. You’ll thank me later. There is free parking in the back. Do NOT park in the spots marked«Arbys». they will tow your car.

Visiting in LA and I decided to try Hoy-Ka to see if it was as good as Pa Ord. Unfortunately, the texture of their noodles wasn’t as good as Pa Ord and I felt like we wasted a chance to eat Pa Ord. We ordered the Hoy-Ka noodle soup. Good soup flavor. On the spicy/sweet side. Noodles weren’t soft/chewy enough. Pineapple fried rice. Was curry style. We ordered this for the kids, but they wouldn’t eat it. I had some and it wasn’t that bad. Drunken Noodles. Noodles were really hard. Not chewy/soft at all. I wouldn’t get this again. Crispy Pork. Tasted like chicharonnes. Good inside the soup, but not good as a stand alone side. Papaya Salad. It was good. Nice and extra spicy. We ordered togo, so not sure if the food is better at the restaurant. But just comparing noodles to noodles, I’d have to say Pa Ord has better quality noodles.

Haven’t written a review for a while because no restaurant really excited me for the last few months until I came across Hoy-ka on Unilocal.I was going to go safe and choose Palm or Ruen Pair but after I read all the rave reviews of this joint and that they have a signature noodle that everyone loved, I decide to come here. I love anything«signature» but they oftentimes prove to be exotic or disappointing. I ordered the signature Hoy-ka noodle, papaya salad, «sole» fish, glass noodle with seafood(tasted kind of Singaporean). The Hoy-ka noodle was an amazing(with flat noodle) explosion of South Asian street flavor, the sole fish was kind of a rip off(not a lot of fish meat, stay away from this option), the papaya salad was an excellent balance of sour and spicy that defied my expectations. The glass noodle was very well made as well. Parking is definitely a bitch but we arrived right at 7 pm and took the first spot on the street and was almost shot at by some guy in a truck behind us.(drama). Will definitely come back again.

Came here for lunch on a Tuesday. Parking was easy to nab(metered), although it looked like they have a lot behind the restaurant(off of Sunset). Oh well! We loved the friendly service and attentiveness. I got pad thai and egg rolls. Just wish the egg rolls came out first as an appetizer because we were ready to eat! However, we were so happy with the egg rolls… they were crispy flaky goodness, with veggie stuffing. Pro tip: they are piping hot so be careful, haha. Pad thai was great, portion sizes were good. Now I have a good Thai food spot in the area!

I absolutely love this place. I don’t usually write reviews but may I say the service was so impeccable I had to share with everyone. The owner greets everyone herself to make sure we are serviced properly. The food is so good but I would return for just the sevice. I’m not trying to take away from the food which is the freshest and authentic thai cuisine I’ve experienced thus far but the service is so catering to our needs it keeps us coming. It wasn’t easy to find a authetical food in Hollywood area. Good thing that there’s Unilocal that guide me to this wonderful place. This place has very high review and I saw many of my Unilocal friends were also give out positive review. Some of them are Thai so I even give me more comfortable to give this place a try. I came here dinner time 7pm in Monday, At first I didn’t believe this was the right restaurant, the outside looks like is a italian or a western restaurant. Also there’s a big hollywood logo too which make it confuse. There’s no lot parking, only street available. Lucky I came here after 7pm which is street parking just available for free. The interior of the restaurant pack with dozen picture frame of Thai monarchy and Thailand. The menu is not that big, offer decent selection. I read the review and most do recommend the Hoy-Ka Pork Noodle, Which is what I order. Other dish were popular were the Crispy Pork Rice. The noodle is actually pretty good price, the quality however is just good not exceptional amazing as some suggest. The noodle is level 7 out of 10 spicy but tasted like a level 5 to me, I like you can choose a lot different option of noodles. The Crispy Pork Rice in the other world were amazing and definitely one of the best fried pork I ever tasted. The pork is perfectly fried and were the right bite size. The rice were perfectly cook, a lot restaurant make a mistake overcook the rice. This one did it right just right amount of texture. The service were excellent thought out the dinner. They refill out water without asking and the takeout were effortless, they pack our meal and even separate the rice too. I highly recommend this place if you grave for Thai or Asian food when you in Hollywood area. Most restaurant nearby are burger and pizza, this is good option to have.

YUMMMMY. Super cute thai food spot in Hollywood. Friendly employees and lots of tables! Food comes out pretty quickly and everything we ordered was delicious. Pad thai, pad see ew, shrimp fried rice, and tom yum soup. Waitress asked me what spice level I wanted for the soup on a range of 1 to 10. I said 6 and woooo it was spicy! The tom yum was a little different, less authentic to me but it was still good because… Tom yum. YUM. Parking is a little difficult since there is only street parking available. During dinner hours(weekdays) the parking meters across the street are free :) Make sure to read the signs though, of course! Will be back!

Cute, modern décor. It’s a step outside of Thai Town but still delivers the authentic taste. We usually end up here every time someone craves curry, but I personally love their house noodles. The ladies who run this restaurant are so sweet. I’d give it five stars but service can be slow at times. But food-wise? It’s legit.

After spin class, you dont want anything heavy like Mexican… you want Thai. And Dana knew of a great place in Hollywood, and that’s where we went! Parking was kind of scarce, and I found an abandoned stretch of curb near the KTLA tower, while Dana parked north of Sunset. Since I’d never been, I thought it would be a good idea if we ordered 2 different entrees and split them down the middle, and that was a darned good idea, as we both were able to try the pad see ew and pad thai. Even though they initially forgot the pai thai, we were good, as we split the pad see ew first. The exceptional food made up for the minor service snafu, and we were feeling pretty happy when we left.

I have been a Thai food craze these days. It’s all I want to eat! I finally checked this restaurant out and it was so good. Prices are even better too. I can’t believe how reasonable Hoy-Ka Thai Noodles is. Best part is — they accept credit cards! I liked the ambiance of the restaurant. They have large wooden tables and walls with large screen TVs. Not your typical Thai restaurant but it’s a fun and casual feel. FOOD: For food, we got an order of their egg rolls, duck roasted curry, and tom yum soup with shrimp. Everything was delicious! The egg rolls were cut into small pieces for the table to enjoy. Although there were only two of us, we devoured all 6 pieces. Guilty but it was so good and so worth it. The egg rolls were perfectly crunchy on the outside and packed with lots of flavor on the inside. It has a sweet and sour sauce for you to dip the egg roll in. I’m not typically the biggest fan of sweet and sour sauce but it worked with the savory egg roll. The tom yum noodle soup was amazing. I asked for it to be spicy but it was more mild to me. It was the perfect soup for the super cold night. It really warmed me up and satisfied my hunger as well(the bowl was huge). The soup came with beautiful large mushrooms, plenty of sweet and succulent shrimp, and generous dashes of chili for a slight kick. Highly recommended. We also had the duck roasted curry with pineapples. The curry was definitely creamy and rich but the duck was really good. Cut into thin slices and was still very tender. With a side of rice, the curry worked very well. It was hearty and tasty. We also got an order of our Thai teas. I loved it. It wasn’t too sweet, not too much ice, and not too creamy or milky. This has to be one of the best Thai teas I have ever had. The only downside to this place is the fact that parking can be difficult to find. They have street parking but it is always so busy. But service here is really efficient and the servers are all friendly. Can’t wait to come back!

A friend recommended I order the Pork Hoy-Ka Noodle Soup with clear noodles — medium spicy. For me, medium spicy was pretty spicy! I forgot I was at a Thai restaurant so medium spicy is a little more spicy than what I was expecting… Either way, loved the soup with all the different types of pork in it! Not a big fan of pork liver so I took that particular pork slices out of the soup :) The Drunken Noodles were really good as well. Also medium spicy so it had a definitely kick to the dish! Would definitely come back here again to try their other soups and dishes :)

Came here on Christmas and ordered the Crispy Pork, Chinese Broccoli over steamed rice. I also ordered the spicy sour soup with extra seafood. Wow huge chunks of seafood and the soup was delicious. I truly enjoyed my dish and i forgot to mention that i added a fried egg. I originally was going to eat there but again it was Christmas and I found that my order was taking longer than the others who came after me and ate before me. Since I had to be somewhere I took it to go. My friend and I both loved it and I will be returning again. Thank you for the hospitality and being open.

I was looking for some decent Thai food near the Hollywood area and decided to try Hoy-Ka Hollywood for pick up. After looking through the menu online, I decided to try the Ka Prao over rice. I ordered over the phone and started heading over there. I came right when it was opening on a Saturday so there was a few street parking spots right outside of the restaurant. There is also a lot in the back. They told me my food would take 15 minutes so I wandered in 10 minutes and waited 5 minutes by the bar. The waitress there was very nice asking me if I wanted water while I waited. The restaurant was very nice and cute inside. I would definitely come back here to eat in one time. My food came out and I wandered back home to eat it. The food was packaged just right. One of my biggest pet peeves about taking out Thai food is that sometimes the sauce gets EVERYWHERE if it is not packed right. It also leaves your car smelling like food for weeks. ICK. The food portion was perfect. There was enough chicken and rice to fill you up. I came back here the week after to try the Ka Prao again with Drunken noodles. I tried the chicken minced the first time I was there and next time, I tried it diced. I was not a big fan of the diced chicken. It tasted very chewy and overcooked. Next time, I am going to get minced chicken. Overall, I think I might have found my new Thai spot. The food was relatively delicious, wait was painless, and there was ease ordering and picking up.

My go to Thai restaurant in my neighborhood. Good portions for a good price. Usually go for the Pad Thai here, but the Drunken Noodle has stolen my heart recently. We may have to go on Maury soon. The crispy pork over rice is also really good. Boat noodles aren’t the best, but they’re solid. Come to think of it, everything here is really good. Never been upset after eating here. The staff can be a little hard to understand sometimes, but they are all very friendly and accommodating. I’ve had some issues ordering with them over the phone and Eat 24, but they were more than gracious and apologetic when it happened.

Awesome place, and one I’m eager to re-visit next time I have an excuse to eat near Thai Town. Food: Excellent and unique, especially their signature dishes. Their Hoy-Kay noodles are a dish that they invented in-house, and is unique to the restaurant. One taste and you’ll know why they named the place after the dish — it’s very good. We also drank coconut water out of coconuts, which was unusual and fun. Prices were low. Atmosphere: This restaurant may be in the heart of Hollywood, but you’ll feel like you’re in a tiki hut on a laid-back Thai beach while inside. Most Thai restaurants have that modern-architecture thing going on, while this place looks and feels like a real restaurant in Thailand. The light wood inside looks like bamboo, and they have the kitschy christmas light strips and all the rest. It’s great. Waitresses are friendly, and the owner — an older Thai woman — walked up to us to talk in depth about the menu. She’s the one who told me the Hoy-Ka Noodles were a dish they invented and that was unique to the restaurant. She was so proud of the place, and the good feelings and friendliness rubbed off. If you’re looking for tasty and unique Thai food in a place that looks like it belongs in Thailand, this is the spot for you.

My boss took me here for my birthday lunch and it was delicious! I haven’t had noodle soup like that since I was a little girl. I knew I wanted soup so I didn’t really look at the other options on the menu, but from the looks of it, everything looks pretty authentic considering this restaurant is in Hollywood. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much. I chose the Hoy-Ka chicken noodles with egg noodles. The broth was super garlicky just how I like it and incredibly flavorful. It also had ground chicken, sliced chicken and fish ball and fish cake… all my favorites. My boss and our other coworker had the Red Curry which smelled deliciously of coconut milk and my other coworker had soup noodles as well. My only complaint was the service was extremely slow. Our whole meal took well over an hour which is very long for a bowl of noodles. Other than that, the parking is very limited so I’m sure it’s very difficult to park during the lunch rush. I will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes!

I always get the Hoyka with flat noodles at a 2 level of spiciness. It’s still spicy & tangy enough for me to gulp down a lot of water. I really like the fish balls and can do without the liver(though I love fried liver). The papaya salad is refreshing and good. Parking is pretty easy too. There are a couple of non metered spots along Bronson Ave. Service is always friendly.

Everything we tried was excellent and unlike anything I’ve eaten at other Thai restaurants. What stood out the most to me were the Papaya Salad and Hoy Ka Noodle Soup. I’ve had Papaya Salad at a number of different restaurants — both Lao and Thai — and this was the best I’ve had. We ordered it Thai Style with Braised Pork and the flavors were just perfect. Just as unique and bursting with flavor was the Hoy Ka Noodle Soup. This soup comes with a choice between a few different types of noodles and meats and I ordered mine with chicken and rice noodles. This has to be one of the best Asian Soups I’ve tried. I eat a lot of phở but the Hoy Ka is in a league of it’s own in terms of flavor profile and depth. It was an extraordinary bowl of Thai Chicken Soup to say the least. Everything we tried was extremely good and received the approval of my inlaws who just arrived from Thailand the same day. The service was outstanding. Our servers were very attentive and the speed was good from the time we were seated to the time we paid our bill and left. The owner came and conversed with my in-laws before we left. The owners/management seems like really great people. The only downside is parking which might be a problem on a busy night. We were fortunate enough to find parking directly across the street. This is a great place for Thai food. It’s fairly cheap and they make excellent food. I liked everything about it which translates to five stars. I will definitely be back.

Hoy Ka Thai Noodles is a Thai restaurant located on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles. They’re not located in Thai Town anymore, that was their first location before they moved to this location. They just pretty much used their old menu and didn’t change the location information on the front cover. Their menu includes a variety of Thai dishes including appetizers, soups, salad, noodle soups, stir fried noodles, rice dishes, a la carte, curry dishes, and side orders. They also have a vegetarian menu. Their noodle soups include small size and large size. For noodle soups, there are different types of noodles you can choose from which include flat rice noodles, small rice noodles, egg noodles, glass noodles, or Thai vermicelli. I’ve had the Boat Noodle Soup with Beef large size. I requested mild spicy, no bean sprouts, and my choice of noodles was small rice noodles. This noodle soup consists of pork liver, tripe, and meatballs. Generous portions of everything. The broth was seriously heavy and rich but it was really good. The noodles had the perfect texture. It was soft, chewy, and thoroughly absorbed the flavor of the broth. The noodle portion seemed to be never ending. My mom had the Hoy Ka Noodle Soup with Pork large size. She enjoyed it very much. I also tried a bit and it was pretty good. It was awfully crowded the first time we went. It was pretty chaotic. The second visit we came right when the restaurant opened so we were one of the first ones. We arrived at 11am and within 10 minutes came three other tables. Service has been good. The servers are really nice, accommodating, and very soft spoken. Sometimes, we did have to flag them down when they were busy. The owner recognized us from our first visit and welcomed us. For our first visit, it took us forever to get our to-go orders. Keep in mind we ordered to-go at the same time we ordered food for dine-in. We waited pretty much another hour after we were done eating. When we finally got the orders, we received numerous apologies from the owner(who was also our server that day) and we got a discount from $ 52 to $ 45 which was nice. For our second visit, our to-go orders arrived promptly after we were done eating. But then again, it was far less hectic that day. The restaurant it itself is very spacious. There’s a lot of seating available in including regular tables and high top tables. The interior is a bit interesting. There’s photos of patrons in the form of a heart shape, artwork consisting of paintings, and several TVs. On a random note, servers here all wear plaid shirts. Parking is awful. Couldn’t find any in the back on the first visit. Even if we were to find parking in the back of the restaurant, all the spots are incredibly narrow. For both visits, we were lucky to find a spot on the curb in the front of the restaurant. Overall, their Thai noodle soups are pretty awesome. Will definitely be back for another visit!

Holy Hoy-Ka Thai Noodles! If you’re looking for an authentic tasting Thai restaurant in Hollywood, look no further! FOOD: 1) Papaya Salad — I think it was papaya salad, but whatever it was, it was definitely a very delicious salad. I think the waiter wrote down our order wrong, but still gave us a delicious papaya salad nonetheless. The flavor was strong and delicious. Even the butter lettuce at the end had to be eaten because there was so much sauce left! Their sauce seriously made all the difference! 2) Crispy Pork with Chinese Broccoli — GETIT! Don’t be a fool… just order this! The crispy pork was fried so well and had just the perfect taste and texture. It was not spicy at all but I’m sure you can have it spicy if you wanted. There aren’t too many pieces of pork though, so if you’re going with a larger group, make sure that you either take all the pork at once, or you share.
3) Hoy-Ka Noodle Soup with Pork — Also don’t be a fool… GETIT!!! There’s a noodle selection on the back of their menu for different noodle options. I picked the thin rice noodles. The ingredients in this noodle soup consist of pork meatballs, ground pork, bbq pork, pork liver and fish cake. You can always ask for an item on the side or not at all if you’re not a fan. This was extremely delicious. The flavors come together so perfectly with an ever so slight hint of sweetness. I add their chili to the soup, because everything, no matter how good, tastes just a bit better with chili! This place won my heart! With such a delicious menu, and a super adorable ambiance, I’ll be sure to come back for more if I’m in the area!
