This is a place where everyone is treated with respect and love and the community is just the best. Always remember a place like this because there will never be another one like it. The art is one of a kind and music is wide ranged.

This place is truly a hidden gem in Los Angeles. The curators and artists that help make Heart of Art Gallery breathe are truly inspiring and wonderful individuals. This place is uplifting to the community and a safe place to all. If you’re an artist yourself they are a great welcoming place in the art world that isn’t judgmental and I think it all starts with the two lovely owners who run it. Also I’ve never seen anything like Heart of Art gallery… It’s not your typical white walled boring art gallery. the building itself is an art piece and there’s so many amazing things to look at. The first time I went I literally spent hours there wanting to look at everything, my friends and I spent an amazing and fun time. Hands down a place I will always plan on visiting when I’m in LA!
Also I can not forget to mention they rescue animals too! This place and the people who make it so alive are love.

my gf go-​go danced for new wavy band, native faun at heart of art a couple weeks ago so i got to experience this wonderful thing.
it’s so los angeles to have this super alt venue in the heart of south central. it’s trippy, for sure with all kinds of interesting art and a lot of goth goin’ on.
the owners are so so sweet. i bought some art, a piece by one of their artists’, roxy, and the owner was so cool. she took my pic with the painting and was just so damn enthusiastic.
it’s places like this that make los angeles special. the heart of art is truly a unique los angeles gem.

I truly LOVE Heart of Art Gallery. I go to as many of their events as possible. They have an amazing plethora of art, solely created by women LGBTQ. I always feel love from all around the room, from the moment I get there to the time I leave. COSTUMES ARE ENCOURAGED. You can buy really unique one-​of-​a-​kind art for as low as $ 20 (even less). The average price for a great piece is around $ 50 – 75. Great DJs and live bands LGBTQ. Laser lights and a great patio that has a fence that flutters when the train goes wisping by. The owners are adorable and loving and want their amazing gallery to be considered more of a community center. They are always doing things to help out their local community. I wish for them to succeed and have a chance to fulfill their dreams. Because by fulfilling their dreams, in succession, will be fulfilling dreams of other women in want and need. They rescue animals, help abused women/​children. They are always there for whomever needs them. And we ALL need them in our lives. Just go there and see for yourself, It will only take about a minute, and you will fall in love with the gallery, and all the beautiful souls that congregate there, just like I did. Beautiful if u ever need a place to feed your creativity Heart of Art is the place to be. I’m not lesbian or Bi but the owners Kenia and Bell don’t care this place is magical spot where ppl can be there self. From amazing art work from Ms.3 to new artist this spot is the shit. There is so much to look at and admire every time im there i can’t get enough.

I love this place. You truly feel at home here. The owners are wonderful & reach out to everyone. The art is spectacular & very inspiring. I am hard pressed to find a greater group of wonderfully eclectic people. They have weekly evens & sponsor & support the community. this is truly a home away from home.

You miss your NorCal college co-​op. You miss the 90s. You miss the grungy whimsical underground queer art gallery and performance space that you never had. Well, lucky you. Some punk rock homos heard your prayers and made THIS place.
There’s a mannequin on the ceiling giving birth to a baby mannequin with horns. There’s a wall of TVs showing that scene where Bambi’s mom gets shot. You can get dollar VHS’s of cult classics and generation Y trash. There’s a train going through the back yard. There’s a rabbit in the backyard. There’s a backyard. The DJ hands out business cards that say «call me» on one side and «gratuitous doodle space» on the other. There’s couches where there are not typically couches. There’s a drag show hosted by an impeccable Courtney Love impersonator. There’s an art show with profits going to charity and vegan food to fortify your well-​meaning anemic blood. There’s a girl with dreadlocks and tattoos who is going to take your picture when you’re not looking. You can buy a picture of her wife chewing on nails.
The best part is the people– real friendly, and always with great boots and weird tattoos and hair that only a mother could hate. Chug a Redbull from the convenience store on the corner, bring cash for the cover and to tip the drag queens, and have a magical night with people who are hard and sweet, just like you.

This place is amazing the girls that run this place they are so welcoming, once you coming there, there is art everywhere you see from the ceiling to floor the whole 4 walls even the bathroom is bad ass haha. If the world was populated with a fraction of the love, art, heart, & creativity of this space and these gals, we just might have hope as a species! Fully adore and recommend their project. It isn’t just a gallery, it is an alternate way to live. They live as my partner and I always hope to: expanding, always, ways of being and seeing. Here’s a space that is sure to inspire you! Heart of art gallery is a space dedicated to women and queer art — they hold weekly community events and continue to push boundaries in art and self expression– they showcase up and coming women fronted bands and also run an animal shelter which is sustained by community donations — in Thursdays they hold art classes and Fridays there is usually an artist mixer — this organization needs to continue to grow — I love this space!

I love this place, they always have super rad events, and the art in the walls is to die for! Every single time I have gone I have had an awesome time, and price wise is not bad at all. The vibe is so cool and everyone who works there is so nice! ¹⁰⁄₁₀ would recommend, specially to those who enjoy the particular and strange. Best part is that you can decorate your walls just like theirs since most of the stuff is for sale!

This place is practically my 2^nd home. I love hanging out, looking at the art and finding out about so many new bands and people. I’ve made so many friends, this place makes you feel instantly happy as soon as you walk in. I love it so much, I volunteer to help keep the doors open in hopes that everyone knows about it. This place is very important for the lgbtqia community, specially for the queer youth in south central. This place is also kid friendly, ive gotten the chance to host groups here such as mommy n me groups and body positive groups! South Central needs art. Yall need to check it out! We need it!

Heart of art contributes so much to an art and performance scene in Los Angeles that marginalizes women and queer folks. This space has become one of creativity and community where it feels like family walking in. Don’t be scared away by the artwork, once you take a few days here you’ll come to understand that it isn’t scary, it’s all about the messages the art can gift to you. This place is so important for so many of us who face marginalization elsewhere. Come join heart of art at any of their events and see why this space is so important for yourself. Very odd very artsy place. I had no idea how large it was inside. I have to say when I first drove up, I was a little bit nervous. It just didn’t seem like the place for an art gallery… but this was truly a little diamond in the rough. Very enjoyable time attending this showing, complete with a live performing artist, kissing booth, and the prize wheel… I can’t forget about the prize wheel… good times! Oh… let me mention that the bathroom is VERY artsy and the toilet is covered in razor blades… even though they are shellacked to the seat… I just couldn’t go. I held it. Maybe I’ll brave it next time.

The Heart of Art Gallery is the spot for all who feel they don’t have a place that they fit in. Its a nurturing space for all of us who go against the grain. For those of us who don’t subscribe to the norm. For those of us who love unconditionally. Heart of Art is for us. Each event is different. You may catch a drag show, live music, art showing or all of the above. Definitely worth stopping by.

I have been here several times, and have always had a blast.
This hidden gem is a hop skip and a jump away from the USC campus. Open for a few evenings each month for special events which showcase art by female and queer artists in the greater Los Angeles area. Door proceeds often go to charities/​orginazations for women, children, or animals.
Each night will feature different events including live music performances, djs, raffles, amateur drag nights, and more. I would check the website or Facebook page for more details.
This space is home for many wonderful, unique, fun, creative types. Combat boots, wigs, studs, dreads, heels… none of these are uncommon, but neither are T-​shirt & jeans or a Forever21 outfit. It really is a no-​attitude space, so leave worry and judgement at the door.

Most wonderful and extraordinary gallery focused on womyn and queer art. Live performance with great bands, great art and great people. Wonderful people, but don’t bring any misogynist or hetero-​sexist attitude. Art is affordable and unique. I’ve been to a couple of their scheduled events and love the place!
