Guatemalan goodies galore! My husband is Guatemalan so every once in a while he craves homemade Guatemalan food. I try to make some for him but it just doesn’t taste the same so he goes to this bakery to stock up on refried black beans, tamales, chuchitos(small guatemalan tamal), sweet bread, imported chips, cookies and even sodas. The food is delicious and it is very affordable. It’s very authentic and feels homemade. My favorite thing to buy are rellenitos, mashed plantains filled with black beans that are deep fried and sprinkled with sugar. It sounds weird but they actually taste delicious. Reminds me of the asian red bean desserts. They also have atoles, these are creamy hot drinks thickened with flour and sweetened to perfection. They have a fava bean one and a corn one which is my absolute favorite. If you’re into ethnic cuisine, Guatemalan food is interesting. It is similar to Mexican food with an earthier flavor and it is also a bit heavier. Good to try every now and then. Not good if you’re trying to loose weight. Check it out, two people can feast with $ 15.00 so that’s always a plus.

Horrible service! They made me drive all the way to this location to place a tamale order and then stated that I can not pre-order, then stated that I never called them in the first place!!! I can’t believe it, I was ready to pay for my order not like I was going to leave them with tamales made and no money! Truly ridiculous, they lost my business for sure, never coming back!!!

A true taste of the cuisine of Guatemala. All the food is amazing and taste like your friend’s grandma made it for you. The staff is friendly and fast, and you will be very happy with your purchase.

Found this restaurant while exploring the area near Vermont Beverly Metro Station. I was not even sure what kind of food that they served. The server didn’t speak much English, it was not a problem as the food was displayed like the cafeteria style and I knew that I could select one entrée and rice or bean or both for $ 6.50. I could get either tortilla or bread to go with the combo. It was a good deal., for $ 8, I could take a chance to taste a new cuisine from another part of the world. I had the shredded beef with rice, the meat was tender and flavorful. It is not a fancy place but one can dine there alone comfortably as it has a lot of room and is a clean and quiet place. The restaurant has a big bakery section and I will check out the pastries during my next visit.

Dad loves the sweet bread. He has to have it practically every morning with his coffee. I prefer the food. It’s sooo good and reminds me of when I visit Guatemala. I usually buy my Atoles(Central American drink) from the ladies outside. I have yet to get sick from it :). But I love this bakery’s breakfast and antojitos. Lots of flavor and good prices.

A wonderful place to bring anyone who is curious to know what authentic Guatemalan food tastes like. Been going here for years, this is my father’s country’s food and I love it when he takes me and the whole family here. I’ve never been to Guatemala but I feel like I’m there when I go to this charming little bakery. They also have a couple tiny aisles and stock up on certain items you’d only find in Guatemala which is pretty neat

Best black beans ever! Pollo en Crema is my fave! Tamal was ok. Hilachas was yummy! The place is small. Friendly staff, if you speak Spanish. It would be nice if they sold Guatemalan candies. Platanos con crema is so good!

I have been coming here since I was a kid. When we lived here in LA, and now as an adult living in OC. We love to come here to get Guatemalan Sweet Bread! It’s usually priced really well(mostly like 3 for $ 1) and they have a little grocery store on the side. I haven’t tried the food yet so I cannot say– but I will say that they are always full of people eating away! If you are Guatemalan and have never been here– it’s a must!

I love this place. The food is great, and for a great price. The people are always so nice. They always work with smiles on their faces, and most of them speak Spanish, which I barely speak but they still treat me the same either way. The creamy chicken with rice and beans is amazing. They also sale delicious pastries.

Been coming here for years… usually its my parents who frequent this place more often though. We used to make line for the Bolillos and Pirujos since they were always fresh and awesome. I’m not a big fan of Guatemalan food even though I’m 100% Chapin… sorry, some of the things we eat just don’t look appretizing and something taste just as bad as they look. This place is also like a small super market so you end up buying/grabbing things while you’re in line for those magical bolillos.

This one has a dining area too!!! I come here for the gusanitos which are sweet bread in the form of a little worm. Sort of. I asked the girl at the counter if they had any«aranyas» or spiders in English and she didn’t laugh. Oh well… Three for one dollar!!! Cheap and really good!!! Great for dipping in coffee or hot chocolate. They are not as sweet as Mexican sweet bread tends to be. The gusanitos here are way better than those at Pan La Victoria btw. They have sesame seeds on top. Love ‘em! Their platanitos fritos are as great as they are in good Cuban restaurants and probably cheaper too. They make them just right not too burnt not undercooked. Awesome!!! The only thing I do not like is the fact that they do not sell the good homemade platanito chips that came in humble ziplocs any more! Ugh! These were fresher than the lame mass produced ones they are selling now!!! There is a bakery called Panaderia Centroamericana or something like that that still sells fresh ones in ziplocs haha I just wish I could find them again!

As soon as I left the joint I get a text from my tiny Latina lover telling me a sweet story how when she was tiny, yes tinier than she already is, that her parents used to take her to this bakery. That story shared warmed my heart. Breads, to die for Horchata, gulped that bad boy down Tamal, be still my heart I left full and took a siesta at le Spanish Villa dreaming of a return visit with my Latina love.
