First off when you arrive it smells horribly in there! You get a mixed odor of pee and wet rag. The waitress was rude and wasn’t in a good mood and wasn’t attentive or ever came to check on my table. And when asked for my check she took forever and gave me attitude. Wouldn’t recommend this place, food wasn’t great and their service was even worse.

Checked this place out and it’s pretty good, service was quick and we even surprised, we usually wait about 15 – 20 mins for our food to come out but then again we only had one pupusa … the prices are affordable for the serving sizes and authenticity aside from the cheeses, 2 breakfast plates and 2 coffee’s with 1 revuelta pupusa, tab was under 22 bucks… I would definitely come back if I’m in the area…

Great food, terrible service. Twice I’ve had problems. Once I ordered food to come back for pick up and when I returned they said they were out of what I ordered, so I had to order something else and wait. Another time I called for pick up, placed my order and the same thing happened, when I arrived they said they were out. So lesson here is don’t be a shitty waiter, if you own a business know how to run it, hire intelligent people, and make sure what your customer orders is there before they leave or when they call, totally unprofessional. If you eat here dine in or make sure they know what food they have if picking up…

Great looking menu. Good food. Service can be slow. Parking can be difficult. I like the breakfast.

Only 2 stars because the only«good thing to eat» is the Fiesta Chicken Bowls, $ 3 burritos and the 99c pupusas which the pupusas are not even all that great. Cheese they use sucks, and the seasoning on the chicharon tastes whack. Oh ! Rellenos de Leche for less than $ 2 are pretty good. Service. .ugh. Sucks. Music needs to be lower. Super loud. Not a place for white people or other non Latinos to come and try REAL Central American food. How shameful to be even titled«Salvadoran food». And on Lent: they cant even make torrejas ! They used Quesadilla bread !!! Why?!! Again 2stars because Im a broke college student and this is better than greasy Jack.

The food is consistently good and authentic. Family owned and operated, humble décor. Ridiculously cheap prices for food/beer and usually packed as a result. Service can be slow as they are usually understaffed(In their defense, those women work at the pace of two people.) when busy but if you can deal, worth the wait IMO. Bring cash to tip as CC only work to pay the bill.

Food is great if it was based on the food they would get a 5. The service sucks. Common sense if your location is always busy get more help. Another server another cook. Placed a phone order and was told 30 minutes. Got there 45 minutes later and was told my food wasn’t ready. They were busy. Made me wait another 30 min, gave me my food and never apologized for the wait. I get it places get busy but damn get your act together people

I go to LACC which is right across the street and i was looking for an alternative to El Pollo Loco within walking distance. So, I came into the restaurant on a Monday early evening & ordered a queso y frijoles pupusa and Carne asada gordita. Pupusa was delicious. Gordita was supposed to have Carne asada yet was more like ground beef, but regardless, it was nicely seasoned/flavored. It took about 20mins for the food to be served. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here but I’d definitely come back in between my classes next semester. Food & service was good. No complaints.

This place has the best pupusas! They make all their drinks fresh. I love the Jamaica, tamarindo and horchata. It takes a bit to get the food because everything is fresh.

Unless you happen to be in the neighborhood, this is definitely not a place you would want to go out of your way for. The highlight of this place is the Wednesday 99 cent pupusa special. The price is great but that’s about all that is great at this place. The pupusas, curtido, salsa, customer service, EVERYTHING is mediocre.

My spot for lunch. My absolute favourite is the veg quesadilla and the agua pina. They reek of deliciousness, and the agua pina packs a punch of freshness. The waitresses are very friendly and accommodating as well.

I am giving this place 3 stars. Not because the food is bad. On the contrary the food is good. I had their carne asada plate which consists of carne asada, 2 eggs, queso fresco, crema, platanos fritos, beans, and 2 hand made tortillas. All for 7.99!.! My son had a bean and cheese pupusa. It was good too!.! So I’m giving them 3 stars because the service can definitely need a great amount of improvement. The waitress never came to check if everything was ok. The restaurant itself can use a bit of renovation. If they fix those 2 things. This place would be booming. I recommend it for the food. Just don’t be surprised at their service or appearance.

This place is horrible! I hate the service and how disrespectful the workers are and how long they take to your order and bring your food to you. I have asked for extra napkins and it seems like it bugs them if you ask for an extra napkin or fork or anything. I definitely don’t recommended this place at all.

Great food for the price! 99 cent pupusas on Wednesdays are definitely a deal! Right across the street from my school makes it even better! Friendly Latin waitresses. The place was pretty full by 10AM and I always see tons of people inside as I pass by everyday, made me want to check it out. After my last class around 9pm the place is full! Ordered 2 cheese and bean pupusas ! Delicious and authentic. Will be back !

Golfo de Fonseca is the largest bay on that stretch of the Pacific Central American coast and is simultaneously bordered on the northwest by El Salvador, northeast & east by Honduras, south & southwest by Nicaragua. In 1849 there was even a treaty between the U.S. & El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua to tentatively propose a canal to connect the Atlantic & Pacific, but of course, the eventual canal went through the much narrower Isthmus of Panama. Pupusa is probably the national dish of El Salvador. Basically it’s usually made of masa harina which is a dried version of the fresh Masa de Maiz meaning corn dough in Spanish. The masa is corn kernels soaked & heated in water with calcium hydroxide which allows the tough corn hull to slip off leaving the soft protein/starch to be ground up & used for cooking. So pupusa is basically a flat round pancake of masa stuffed with various food stuffs & grilled to form a «flatbread». Los Angeles Community College is directly across Vermont Avenue from Golfo de Fonseca so it must get plenty of business from the students looking for a cheap, filling, tasty meal during the lunch & dinner hours. I went around 9pm on a Monday so that the ordering was quick & easy from an efficient, perfunctory waitress. Looking around Golfo de Fonseca, don’t expect a chic, stylish maison de cuisine. It’s a dive and quite comfortable about its humble yet clean state. I ordered a beer and the waitress was fast in listing Bud & other such American mass produced beers which really don’t interest me in the least. So I asked for a Salvadoran beer which was in stock called Cerveza Suprema in a shamrock green botitle. The beer looks slightly cloudy as though unfiltered like German Weissbier. The bouquet is lightly yeasty. Taste is touch of taffy with a hint of hop refreshing bitterness, and a smooth slightly green herbal sweet finish. Ordered Pupusa de Revuelta which is stuffed with cheese, pork that may have been chicharron, fried pork skin & associated fat & meat, a bit of frijoles. Pork was the main flavouring ingredient giving this pupusa a gamey meaty, touch of barnyard-like funky porkiness. Great flavours for those who like a chewier, slightly wild carnivorous aroma & flavor along with the hefty starch of the masa de maiz that was soft & pillowy inside and slightly toasted drier, crustier texture on the outside. Also ordered the Pupusa de Loroco which is «Fernaldia pandurata/common name: loroco(loh roh koh), a vine with edible flowers.» In the pupusa, the loroco was slightly wilted with a soupçon of a sour, bitter aroma. The stringy mild flavoured cheese that reminded me of Mozzarella was lightly creamy & allowed the subtle flavor of the loroco to come through. I especially liked the pupusa de loroco since it had a more refined, subtle flavor combination that went particularly well with the Suprema beer. Curtido, a lightly fermented shredded cabbage like a lightly sour Sauerkraut, that clears the palate, is included as well as a squeeze bottle offering of Salsa Roja which is a watery mild red chile salsa to lend a gastrique to the starchy oiliness of the pupusas. Good tasting pupusas under $ 2 each, and a big sign announces $ 1 pupusas on Wednesdays. That must be when the LACC students come out en masse. 3++ Unilocal stars for pupusas that are appetizing & a bargain. PS Since this is a Salvadoran & Mexican restaurant, there are other dishes to try out with a lot of the food being based on seafood. This might be a good option for those not into the Salvadoran national dish. Buen Provecho!

Love this place… it’s right across from school and they always have awesome Daily Specials. I eat here pretty often since they have delicious food and the price is just right for the amount of food you get. Their Wednesday Pupusas Special at $ 0.99 a piece is a steal. They are always packed with regular customers and students dining in or ordering take out. Since they get lots of high volume orders the wait can be long if you don’t call to place an order in advance, but their wait time is pretty spot on. If they tell you 25 min wait or 45 min wait for your take out order, it’s pretty accurate. The horchata is delicious here and your pupusas order usually comes with salsa and a salad. The pupusas are amazing and so is the enchiladas here. The portions are the perfect size for the price. The staff here are speedy and friendly. There is no parking lot, but street parking within the area is pretty packed. But if you’re a student then you’re set since u can just park at the school parking lot and walk over. I’ve dine in and order take out and each time the staff was friendly and courteous.
