Tried it 2 times and the selection was always very minimal and it’s a small portion for the price. Nice outdoor seating and it’s different from eveything typical Westwood has to offer.

Came to try the pies finally in a post Aussie/Invasion day experience. We had steak pies hot out of the oven as in we came back to the shop when the staff said they would be done cooking. Firstly, I had the combo with potato, gravy and mushy peas. I don’t know why I did. I never eat pies that way but I’ve never had it before so I guess I thought I would try it. The gravy is boxed salty gravy but at least it wasn’t thin and runny how gravy tends to be here though I wasn’t real a fan of the peas or mash but at least it was hot! The pie filling was great — chunky and I think the right amount of meat to sauce ratio. Maybe could have been a tad more sauce as there was none of the splurting out of hot sauce/meat and burning your lip or fingers, though perhaps the clever intent not to scar their patrons. I’m just use to factoring in the burn! I could have done with a little more crunch with the pasty. If Bronzed Aussies pie crusts could be filled with Garlo’s filling it would be AMAZING in my opinion. Prices are spot on at Garlos too. Tried the sausage roll«sider» and it was ok. It was beefier than I expected so it was more of an unexpected taste. Being Aussie and being raised on pies you eat with your hands it’s very funny to see the whole targeting the American audience with hand pies and mini pies becoming sliders. Know your audience I guess. A kid walked in and got one veggie and one turkey pie which was just plain old funny to me. Again, knowing your audience is key which clearly Garlos does :) Great location for walk by traffic and nice friendly staff, though none were Aussie when we were there. I’ll be back though for more sampling :)

I tried five different pies here, ranging from sweet to savory to meaty. All were delicious and were the perfect size and portability for a picnic. The server was more than courteous and excitedly answered all of my questions about the pie varieties and was spot on with her recommendations. They even have real Australian Tim Tams!!! High marks all around.

Just met one of the owners, Peter – what a genuinely nice guy! So I was wary at first because if you’ve got to talk about your product that much its usually because it doesn’t taste that good and you need to sell people on it instead of the items selling themselves. Maybe we just walked in when it was slow and Peter happened to be there. Anyway, we bought the lean beef and the curry beef pies and he gave us a sausage roll for free. The sausage roll was just ok, but the pies were really great! I was honestly surprised. The flavor was great without being overly salty. So many places just put salt in their food to give it flavor, but these lies had some genuine undertones of complex flavors other than salt. Super delicious! 4 stars for the food, 1 extra star for an extremely friendly co-owner and staff(they were very friendly also).

My wife is Australian so this was a must try for us and we were not disappointed. Fast, friendly service and excellent pies, just like back in Aus. Defs a good choice.

From the pictures on the wall of the restaurant, I guess you’re supposed to eat these pies with your hands. Well, one of our pies was nuclear hot and I’m definitely glad I wasn’t holding it because I still have some use for the skin on my hands. As for the other pie, well, whatever, I felt better using the old fork and knife. We tried the turkey pie, the beef/bacon/cheese one, and a spinach/cheese/potato roll slider. The turkey pie tasted just like the classic turkey pot pies you may have enjoyed as a kid. it was homey and delicious. The beef/bacon/cheese wasn’t as flavorful as I thought it might be but it definitely grew on me and I enjoyed it. It was a nice complement to the turkey pie. Unfortunately, the slider appeared to be overcooked and was somewhat dry. I can’t recommend it. We also tried a side of mashed potatoes and gravy(only 95 cents!) and it was terrific. The place is cute and the service was attentive and friendly. The two pies, slider and potatoes were plenty to satisfy two adults so I don’t know why people are griping that the pies are too small. Did you expect them to be the size of an apple pie at Marie Callender’s?

This place is conveniently located right outside of Trader Joe’s so I dropped by after a tiring trip to the grocery store. I ordered three mini pies and thought that they all were tasty – however, they were a bit salty. The restaurant was clean and the workers were super friendly and helped me choose my pies. I ordered the lean beef pie; spinach, cheese and potato roll; and a chicken and vegetable pie. Of those, I probably enjoyed the chicken and veggies the most! If I were still a UCLA student, I would definitely frequent this place for study snacks or to stock up on pies for breakfast!

My 2nd Aussie pie shop I’ve been to and it’s ok. If you’ve never had one, give it a try. I’ve definitely had better though in another shop but I’m glad there’s a place like this ’cause it’s different.

I came here with my boyfriend for dinner. We got the meal #1(classic pie being lean beef pie) with salad, premium pie — beef stroganoff, and a blueberry pie as dessert. We ate off pie trays and listened to Australian radio station being played in the background. I enjoyed the pies and would probably come back. There’s street parking or if you’re shopping at trader’s joes to get parking validated, no harming stopping in here too. There was plenty of seating and we ate at 6pm.

Pies are already pre-made so this place makes for a quick bite to eat when you’re hungry. I had one of the breakfast pies that was pretty much a quiche! I tried some of my sister’s beef stroganoff pie that was pretty delicious. Mashed potatoes were a good texture and flavor. The mushy peas looked like baby food and didn’t taste bad, but is not something I eat regularly. Overall, this place is pretty great for what it is!

Hmmm… really thought I would love these pies but unfortunately the taste didn’t live up to my expectations. +Easy parking — free validated parking if you park next door at the Trader Joe’s lot +Variety of options +Pretty affordable($ 4.50 a pop) and easy to grab and go +Lots of seating +Helpful service –Tasted pretty bland to me — maybe the meat pie I chose isn’t as great as the other options offered. I tried the classic lean ground beef pie(see pics below) –Mashed potatoes and mashed peas sounded pretty good, but ultimately made me feel like I was just eating bland baby food(sorry) Had to try it once, but probably going to venture back to Bronzed Aussie in DTLA if I’m ever craving authentic pies.

Parked at the meters to shop at Trader Joe’s and caught a whiff of Garlo’s as we passed. On the way back, we decided to go in and check out what, if any, vegetarian items they had to offer. Pies are the street food of Australia. When we traveled there, we found shops and stands everywhere selling this stuff at very cheap prices. I ordered the following to go: 2 veggie pies — held up well. I thought it would be soggy by the time I reheated them later on. Savory, but I wish it had more filling and less crust. 3 stars Spinach, cheese, and potato roll slider. Tasted good but a little dry. 2.5 stars Being in Westwood, they offer price specials to attract the UCLA students. But even without these specials, if you’re looking for a heavier meal for a decent price, Garlo’s will satisfy.

Yum-ville! I came here after trouncing around the Hammer Museum(it’s only a short walk from there) to have a snack/small lunch before driving all the way back to Glendale, and I was glad I did! The setup here is cafeteria-esq/not unlike a fast food restaurant. After staring at the pies in the case while trying to control my salivation, I opted for the chicken and vegetable pie. With tax it cost me $ 5.40(not a bad deal especially in this neighborhood), and I was immediately given it and ready to dig in. I managed to make it to a table before scarfing down the mound of deliciousness, but just barely. Firstly, the temperature of the pie was perfect: not too hot to eat, but still warm. The crust was flaky and buttery but not too buttery, and the meat and veggies were all tender, plus the gravy: yum! I wasn’t a big fan of the sesame seeds on the crust but plenty of the pies don’t have them, and I’ll take that into consideration whenever I return. The next time I go to the Hammer Museum I’ll be back here for another savory pie and maybe even a sweet one as well. Those all looked delicious, and if they’re anything like the savory pie I imagine their appearance matches their taste.

There is parking in TJ lot for an hour as long as you get validation. The shop will give you a card to put in after your lot ticket which takes care of the price for you. I had been dying to try Aussie meat pies so as soon as I had the chance, I came, albeit alone, and was instantly mesmerized at the number of options available. After 5 minutes, I just asked the guy which were the most popular items and ultimately ended up getting the chicken & vegetables pie, classic steak pie, and spinach/cheese/potato roll. The classic steak was the first one I ate on the spot and it was hot, which kept me from scarfing it down. However, I can’t say I was a huge fan of the taste itself of the beef sauce. It was salty but not quite in the savory way I’m used to. Still, the concept was everything I loved and I killed it within 5 minutes. I won’t be ordering it again. The chicken & vegetables pie was for my sister so it was cool by the time she ate it(and I stole some of it) but it was essentially a wonderful chicken pot pie. I loved everything about it and it was quite palatable. I’m a sucker for chicken pot pies though so my review of this may be biased. I don’t recommend letting these pies sit for too long though since the top was definitely not as crusty anymore and had gotten a bit soggy. The spinach/cheese/potato was my favorite. It reminded me of a tamale in terms of the texture inside, and the crunchy outside layer was the perfect complement to it. I did crave hot sauce while eating it though to add something of a kick, but it was perfectly fine on its own regardless. As other Unilocalers say, it is a bit pricey for the size, regardless of how hearty it is, since we can essentially pay a little more and get a full blown chipotle burrito or bowl nearby. If this place gets more package deals or meat pie discounts(such as buy 3, get a free slider), it would be a win.

I came here for the first time in November 2014, and decided to grab some for the road before I went to Universal Studios. Ever since then, I’ve been craving pot pies, and I definitely can’t go back to the frozen ones anymore! I ordered: –1 lean beef pie: pretty lean beef! But the beef texture tastes a little like pork. –2 curry beef pie: Yummy! If you like food with a bit more flavor, I would try this! –1 beef stroganoff pie –1 fajita chicken pie –2 chicken and vegetable pies: My favorite one! Maybe because I like vegetables in my pie… BUTYES! More please! –1 sausage roll: Heating it up would make it taste better, but it is a little heavy since it is sausage. –1 mushroom, spinach and egg pie(breakfast item): Meh. You couldn’t really taste the egg, and it tasted kind of bland. We also got to try their fresh banana bread AND we got two free scones! I was quite surprised they switched staff(I THINK), because now they all have such cute accents! Pros: –Eat it HOT! It’s absolutely delicious. I love that you can see them making the pies! Everything is transparent. –Good variety! I didn’t know pot pies had that many different fillings! WISH I COULDEATTHEMALL! –Amazing service! They were helpful in accommodating with what we wanted, and all smiles at the ungodly hour of 9AM!(I like to sleep in… don’t judge!) And I love how attentive to detail they are! The manager(I’m assuming) saw that we wanted to try the bread, so he gave us two fresh pieces! –Good variety! I like that you can also get scones here, and coffee and other things! YUMMY!(Banana bread is addicting, FYI.) –Transportable. They provide a nice cardboard box if you buy 4 or more, and also they have tin/aluminum foil on the bottom of the pies so that it won’t get squished! Cons: –Maybe it’s just me, but I wish there would be more filling, and a little less«skin» on top. Tips/Observations: –Once it’s cold, it doesn’t taste as good. Make sure you heat it up! –There is a loyalty card, so make sure you sign up! You can use your phone number too if you forgot your card! –If you want to take it home and store it in the fridge, I usually ask for the cold pies so that I don’t worry about it being so fresh it rips or anything! This is definitely my must go-to places when I stop by in the area!

This was my first time having Australian meat pie and I’ve got to say that I really enjoyed it. Affordable and fresh, I would much rather eat this than any fast food joint if I’m looking to only spend a few bucks. Their pies are comparable gourmet next to other food that is served to you immediately. I got the lean beef pie and it was just so tasty and filling. I ordered it with a side salad and was really bummed I didn’t get one of the salads that I saw in Unilocal photos where the greens also came with other veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. My salad was all greens and dressing(I got balsamic). We also got an apple turnover and blueberry-white chocolate scone. SOGOOD. Again, this was my first time having Australian meat pie so I have nothing to compare it to but I found it to be an incredibly fulfilling meal. The owners are Australian and are friendly and helpful as are their staff. I look forward to coming back to try some of the other pies. Located next door to Trader Joe’s, parking is easy because they share the same structure and validate for 1 hour.

This place used to be a coffeeshop but has now converted to this Aussie pie shop. This is my second Aussie pie shop, and although I cannot claim to be an expert, I do have some basis for comparison. I thought the service was excellent and the space was nice and bright. They had an interesting and good selection of pies. I actually thought the pies themselves were not all that small. If you had a pie and the smashed peas and potatoes you’d probably be full. I got two pies because I’m a greedy bastard and so was really stuffed by the end. In any case, I thought overall that the food was good, but lacked any zing or true flavored. The chicken and vegetable pie, which is basically a chicken pot pie, was quite bland. The beef stroganoff was the same way. Too lightly seasoned. Mashed potatoes and peas were light, as was the gravy. Now I’m all about eating light, but there should be a few ingredients with some flavor! My lunch came out to be $ 15 including a 10% UCLA discount. It’s a little pricey for lunch but it’s not terrible. If you’ve never had Aussie pie before, do give it a try. It’s nice comfort food. Should always be had with the smashed peas and potatoes.

Key to my heart… any food with a flaky crust. Having this place in westwood makes me so happy! First of all, the place smells amazing. You literally get blasted in the face with the aroma of fresh pies coming out of the oven. The three pies I tried in my first go-around are the BREAKFASTBACONANDEGG, CURRY, and STEAK. All three were delicious and the crusts were so flaky, you can tell that the pies are made fresh. Although they seem small, these Pies are all very filling! They also have dessert options too. I’ll probably bump this place up to a 5* once I try more pies

I came in looking for something different. I’ve never been to Australia and I’ve never had a meat pie, so I was like, what the hell. Ordered the #1, which included the sausage roll, mashed potatoes and mushy peas. If you’re looking for a full meal, holy crap this is a big one. I should have gotten the side salad. But the pie was one-dimensional. It was just like a huge log of bland, dense sausage. They served it with ketchup and cholula on the side, and I tried both and it didn’t make it much better for me. I ended up dipping it in the gravy from the mashed potatoes. It also tried the lean beef mini pie, which I liked more with the flaky crust, but it didn’t seem to have any memorable flavor for me. This place needs more variety. Maybe they’re trying to keep things OG Aussie, but still. They only have two options for the big pie combo meal. I feel like their breakfast options could REALLY kick butt if they were served all day. I don’t know about Aussies, but Americans LOVE breakfast for dinner. Also, every main dish is in pie or roll form, which is NOT at all for the Is there any way to have any other options? Maybe like make an open-faced sandwich? Or a steamed veggie option? Service was perfect, everyone was very nice and they were excited to have me there as a new customer. I’d come back and try to get something different, maybe a dessert or a different kind of pie– I wanna try the breakfast one!
