This place is BOMB!!! I ordered the Fat Texas BBQ and I was very happy I did. The only reason I gave in 4 stars rather than 5 was because the service can be better. Besides that I would recommend this place !

I had the Fat Texas which was AMAZING! All the different textures was the perfect combination of crunch, salty and gooey. The only negative was the soda machine ran out of ice and had to reset which took about 15 minutes so there was a line longer than the food line to get a drink.

As good as the food is. There is no way I can give more than one star. The wait time and poor customer service is HORRIBLE! Knowing service is slow I called ahead for pick up and was told 20 mins. I got there 30 mins later and still waited 40 mins. OVER an Hour wait for one sandwich and onion rings is beyond RODICULOUS

I came here while waiting for Jeni’s ice cream to open. My sister and I decided to split the Fat BBQ Texas since we just had our coffee and would get our ice cream. The guy behind the counter was trying to be nice I guess. He approached us and asked if we had questions. Um… I just got here. In my opinion, it is better to leave customers to look at the menu the first one– two minutes at least. Anyways, my sister ordered one sandwich and told him we were only going to order one. He looked shocked and said«that’s it?» I was a bit uncomfortable. I didn’t want to order a lot because I wanted to go somewhere to eat also in LA, but at the same time, I didn’t want to be hungry if the size of the sandwich was not big enough. Well, the sandwich is really good! I took half star off for the length of time waiting(it wasn’t that long, but for one sandwich, it was). And another half star for the shocked expression we only ordered one sandwich. It was a good size for us btw. The sandwich was very flavorful so half was enough for us.

Did another last minute road trip to Los Angeles. Me and the bff were starving and on the drive there I kept looking at him like he was a T-Bone steak/ham hock so I asked him to Google some late night eats in the area we were in and that was what led us to Fat Sal’s. It was fairly busy for it being 12:30 am on a Tuesday night when we were there. About 6 or 7 people were standing in line waiting to order. Despite the dank weed odor that was wafting around in the place [from the employees? Maybe they have weed incense?], we both said the hell with it and decided to order. Bff ordered the fat buffalo. I ordered the Philly cheese steak and the bacon cheeseburger fries for us to halves the sandwich and share the fries. Fat Buffalo: Bff said it was good. Me on the other hand, I didn’t think it was all that great. Too much sauce/mayo/cheese and to boot it was lukewarm. Philly Cheesesteak: Bff liked the fat buffalo better. I liked this better because at least it was HOT when it came. Bacon Cheeseburger Fries: we both said we would pass on those of we ever came back. The fries were mushy and not hot. Honestly, for the price of 6.99 I felt like I was ripped off. 1 star for the kick ass music you were playing 1 star for the soda machine –1 star for cold food –1 star for the wait time just to order the food. And to wait for my order. I had 1 sandwich and fries. There were people who ordered like 3 or 4 sandwiches after me that got their food before me. If it was the fries holding my order up, you failed because the fries weren’t even hot. –1 star for the danky stanky weed smell. I certainly didnt have the munchies during this visit.

I’ve only tried their fat Texas bbq sandwich and it was definitely«fat» and so worth the calories. Their shakes are awesome– I love the cheesecake. Also, their carne asada fries do not disappoint. They’re pretty busy, whether in the day or late night, but speedy at getting the food out. Parking can be tight and tables turnover quickly.

We came here because my friend Dan had been talking up the Last Meal-approach of their sandwiches; everything you could ever want in a meal but all mashed into one sandwich. We’d been running around playing Ultimate all day on the sand, so this sounded really good to me. I do like chicken tenders, french fries, and mozzarella sticks. But I chickened out and ordered a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and carne asada fries. My boyfriend Sam ordered one of the Fat sandwiches though. The cheesesteak was good, though I wish there was a bit more cheese in it. The carne asada fries were great, everything you want in an unhealthy side dish: crunchy, meaty, cheesy, and a little spicy. The fresh chopped tomatoes were a nice touch. I shared this with the rest of my group so I didn’t over-eat and feel gross. I had a few bites of the Fat sandwich. It was tasty though I think you have to eat it right when you order, so everything is still crispy. Congealed fried foods are the worst. Also, it’s pretty wide so you can’t eat everything in one bite. It makes sense when there’s so much stuff in it, but you kind of want the Fat Sal’s sandwich experience in one bite. Not realistic unless you can unhinge your jaw like a snake. This is definitely a Sometimes Meal. The service is fast and friendly and I would definitely return for the carne asada fries but I’m glad for my own health that I live in Minneapolis because I don’t trust myself to stay away.

First time at Fat Sals and if you crave heart attack food, look no further. All your fried food fantasies to be crammed into one foot sandwich and smothered with sauce. There are a few tvs dialed into sports and hip hop music playing through the speaker(my kind of place!) After some inspection went with the Fat BBQ(Pastrami, French fries, chicken fingers, BBQ sauce and maybe something else all rolled into one), a cheddar and onion hot dog(meh), the seasoned fries(reminds me of Cajun fries from Five Guys) and a NY strawberry cheesecake shake. The wait was something to be desired for the sandwich but at least the fries came out rather quick so had something to munch on while we waited for the epic deliciousness that ensued. The fries came with«fat sauce» which was quite tasty combo with the fries. All in all, pretty solid place, probably couldn’t eat too many times here as your cholesterol would surely skyrocket but definitely a place to bring your friends if they’ve never been. Looking forward to trying a different sandwich the next time out. Til next time Sal!

One word«BOMB». I heard about Fat Sal’s from a podcast and have been wanting to try it for awhile. When we got there it was crowded cause it’s Sunday plus with football game it was a little crazy, so we decided to ordered our food first. With so many things on the menu it was so hard decided but we chose the Fat Buffalo with seasoned fries, side of chili, and a #3 milkshake. The Fat Buffalo was chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, melted cheddar, fries, buffalo hot sauce, blue cheese dressing on a hero was everything it sounds to be… Amazing! So. Good. It’s a lot for one person but my BF and I split it so nothing was wasted. We also got a side of season fries with fat sauce which were great too. The #3 shake is basically a Smore’s in shake form and it’s to die for! It had chunks of graham cracker, with shaved milk chocolate and toasted marshmallows in vanilla ice cream it was great. Overall this place is pretty epic and I highly recommend it to anyone.

I came here on a random Saturday afternoon wanting to try something new and my husband had his on eye on this spot. It was just after noon when we arrived, so the restaurant hadn’t gotten too busy yet, but it did get busier by the time we left, with a lot of people ordering theirs to go. I had misread their menu on my phone and mistakenly thought that the soy-marinated bahn-mi was a soy, vegetarian option. Even so, I was considering ditching it because the sauce sounded too heavy, a «glaze,» when I realized it is steak. So I went for the tuna melt. Disappointingly, my husband decided to share with me because he wanted ice cream after, so he didn’t order any of the more interesting sandwiches. Tuna melt– pretty standard, with white bread, American cheese, lettuce and tomato. This was a 3-star sandwich and maybe a little lower, due to the fact that the sandwich was lukewarm and the cheese not even melted. Disappointing. The tomatoes were sad and relatively colorless. The only redeeming factor was the copious amount of butter they obviously used to grill the bread. Seasoned fries– not good at all. The fries themselves were not very fresh or hot with a somewhat mushy texture. And as someone else mentioned, despite being completely covered in seasoned salt, these fries were seriously lacking in flavor and really needed the help of the thousand-island type dressing they give you on the side. The service was pretty good. We received the sandwich relatively quickly. Overall though, it was a disappointing meal and I wouldn’t bother coming back.

Two visits in two days. That’s an instant five-star. Despite the awful, horrible rap music playing. The ability to fit cheese sticks, chicken, gravy, fries, mayo, onion rings, bbq sauce, and all manner of other topping into a simple hoagie roll and have it not explode in your face is amazing. The seating is horribly tight, the lines are long, the seats are uncomfortable, the music is bad, it’s tool loud, parking sucks, but like most things in Hollywood and around L.A. that’s just par for the course and you can’t judge based on that… So this place gets five stars for being the most epic crazy sandwich shop I’ve been to. Twice… in two days.

After reading about the Rutgers University«grease trucks,» I was excited to try Fat Sal’s. For readers unfamiliar with New Jersey street food, «fat sandwiches» are a twenty year institution on the Rutgers campus. Variously stuffed with mozzarella sticks, burger patties and gravy-slathered fries, these sandwiches are an unapologetic combination of American comfort classics. Fat Sal’s attempts to recreate these sandwiches with disappointing results. Yes, all the ingredients are all there: pastrami, onion rings, fried eggs, bacon, marinara sauce – whatever you can imagine. The resulting sandwich, however, is completely bland. I’m not sure if their kitchen has a «no salt» policy, but each bite is an indeterminate glob of carbs. Moreover, items like mozzarella sticks should burst with gooey cheese. At Fat Sal’s they have the consistency of rubber, served lukewarm and probably fried well in advance. I can excuse their mediocre preparation – it’s a high volume restaurant and every item can’t be prepared to order. Their lack of flavor and seasoning, however, is inexcusable. If you’re ordering a 1500 calorie sandwich with the word«fat» in the description, you probably aren’t on a low sodium diet. Without salt, grease just doesn’t cut it.

Bros. You blew it AGAIN. Waited 25 minutes for a roast beef sandwich today and there were like 3 slices of meat in that thing. You’ve lost this fat guy as a customer for good. Sandwich lovers — do yourselves a favor and go to Tamarind Ave. Deli for a REAL one.

Greasy comfort food with fries in just about everything. Only thing missing is beer… will definitely come back again! Tried the Fat BBQ brisket– kind of too sweet, and the Fat Sal, which was pretty spot on. Tiny parking lot but some neighborhood parking available.

Food: I don’t even know where to begin as far as the food goes. But really, get the Fat Sandwiches! They’re big enough for two and for what sounds like garbage ingredients to throw together ends up being a a foodgasm in your mouth. I, myself, am a big fan of eggs, fries, mozzarella sticks, ketchup, basically the works so we order – you guessed it, the Fat Jerry. And a side of seasoned fries. Something about this sandwich reminds me of a simple burger but pretty much has all my favorite things in it! We have yet to try the other sandwiches(because why ruin a good thing?), but I’m sure they’re all just as good. Because they’re signature items exclusive to the joint, I don’t think I need to try other things here… like…salad. It may be detrimental to your health, but why not live a little? I hear the shakes are bomb, but I can already feel my arteries clogging with just that thought. Environment/Ambiance: Definitely a step up from a fast food joint. Great place with open air windows(so it’s like you’re sitting outside, but not), multiple televisions so you can’t miss your favorite game, and family style seating. It gets pretty crowded during peak hours since it’s not the biggest restaurant around and there’s a small parking lot out front. Careful driving around! Service: Workers are really chill. They seem like the kind of people you can just talk to and hold conversation with… except you’ll be holding up a giant line. Service is pretty quick, can’t complain. Tips: If you can, try all the Fat Sandwiches Fat Sal has to offer. I’m glad they’re really affordable and can satisfy my crazy cravings and my wallet! And if you’re feeling particular courageous, they do have a Fat Sandwich challenge… just look at the sign above the registers!

I finally make it to Fat Sal’s. Placed my order on the phone with Kyle who guided me but also let me know how awesome he felt the season fries were. He recommended getting an extra dipping sauce, stating it was one of his favorite things on the menu. I didn’t feel rushed which is always a plus living and eating around the hollywood area. Picked up my order from Kyle who yelled my name basically when I walked in. He’s from Michigan and appreciates good food(I made a west coast pun but lets be serious F.S. has the spirit of the east). He was very patient, seemed confident and isn’t afraid to interact with the customer which I like. I hate when people rush through the initial interaction. Food Order: Phenomenal Steak and Cheese($ 7.99) add mushrooms(.75 cent charge), mayo, lettuce and tomato Season Fries– $ 3.99 — These were pretty good. I think the seasoning is what makes them less about how the fries are actually cooked or prepared Taste of F.S.: The food is ok, not the best not the worst. I personally haven’t found another steak and cheese that could top Boo’s steak and cheese. Overall, I want to try some of the other sandwiches. Again I’d rather do Boo’s.

FATSAL’S has a great vibe… super chill, open air windows, family-style seating, TVs. A next level fast food joint. Came with my boyfriend for lunch and we shared a sandwich and fries. + BANHMI-KI(pronounced bon mickey) is a fattier version of a basic banh mi; sweet and spicy soy marinated grilled steak with pickled veggies, slaw, onion rings, tomato, fresh jalapenos, cilantro, teriyaki glaze, sriracha mayo. Really good sandwich! + philly cheesesteak fries — super boring and not flavorful. Skip. Order another sandwich instead. Small shared parking lot in the front and metered street parking. They’re open until 3am and I bet these sandwiches are so clutch for drunk people… Hmm ideas.

Fat Sal’s has done it again, in a big Fat way. Since my initial experience, I have been back multiple times, usually sticking to my club sandwich or their chicken strips, always with regular fries and if it’s a really good day, throw in one of their milkshakes. Craving a burger recently, I didn’t feel like spending a ton at a random gourmet burger joint so I headed on over to FS, since I’ve read good things about their burgers. Guy at the cashier said he’s be right with me as he and another guy worked on getting these orders out. Then he actually apologized for the wait which was probably less than 20 seconds. It only gets better. I asked for their regular extra well done minus onions and their sauce, but w/the addition of A1 sauce($.25). Since I request it to be so well-done, I’m prepared to wait. In this case, I swear 5 minutes didn’t pass before my name was called. Since I learned the hard way at other places, I checked my order before leaving and that sucker had no trace of pink. After I dug in, I didn’t realize a burger could taste so good. Definitely worth the ‘wait’, and exceeded my expectations. Now if you like large patties that you need to go all ‘V Lizard Mouth’ on, this won’t be your place, or at least this won’t be the burger in particular you want to order. It was perfect. The Seagram’s cherry ginger ale from the fountain rounded out the success. I’m so glad Fat Sal’s is in my life. I just hope it doesn’t make me part of their namesake. Visit accordingly…

i just lived around the corner. If i ever wanted to go eat some fast food i went there. All the sandwhiches i tasted were very good and the french fries just awesome! Wish i were in LA again to go eat there. Tip: They have a soda machine where you can get all different sodas with different flavors. Its so much fun to try out all the possibilities. My favorite: Sprite with Orange!
