Draperies by Walter

Draperies by Walter turned-​out to be flakes and unprofessional. Walter came out (very nice guy) on ⁷⁄₁₆ to review our drape issues that involved removing and then cleaning all drapes and he specifically advised he could have his guys work on site to remove and clean all our drapes given we had lots of space on the back driveway and garage, as well as replace an office shade that is beyond repair due to dry rotting. He also advised he would send an estimate for all of this work by the following Monday (⁷⁄₂₀).
I never received his estimate, thus on Tuesday (⁷⁄₂₁) I e-​mailed Walter and someone named Astrid responded via e-​mail with a quote that didn’t include the cost to replace the shade in the upstairs office. Astrid also advised Walter would now not be able to do the curtain cleaning on-​site as previously promised as it was too much to bring out the equipment and to have his guys on site. I advised Astrid (whomever she was) I had specifically asked Walter to do the curtain cleaning on site as we didn’t want all of our windows being exposed for the 2 to 3 days it was going to take to have cleaned and then return to re-​hang. I also advised Walter we would have guests in town during the time he had scheduled to clean. Walter never returned my phone call and never responded via e-​mail, only this person named Astrid.
After the last e-​mail, I advised them we would find someone else.

Called Walter’s business phone line. A woman answered very unprofessionally. Seemed as though it was his girlfriend or wife. She handed the phone to him. Had a great conversation with Walter about installing curtains in my boss’s home. He was very knowledgeable and polite. I was excited he agreed to meet my boss on a Saturday at her home. We agreed on a time and exchanged all pertinent information. HE WAS A NO SHOW. No phone call. Did not answer his phone. No follow up at a later date. Completely took me out of left field since our conversation was thorough and productive. It’s simply a shame that Walter chose to do business or not do business in this fashion. If he wasn’t interested in the job, he should have told me right off. I would not waste your time on this company no matter how good they may sound on the phone.

walter is dishonest in his billing practices. he hires illegal aliens WHO DON’T SPEAK ANY ENGLISH. his ‘workers’ tracked dirt on to my new ultra white shag plus carpets as well as smudged their greasy fingers on my newly finished walls.
when i confronted mr. portillo he insisted the ground in dirt was there before and that his workers DID NOT put marks on my walls. he is unprofessional, unreliable and VERY litigious. do not be fooled by his false subservient — humble immigrant demeanor. this man is a shark.
if you are in the market for new draperies or window dressings; do yourself a favor and go to one of the better shops on melrose or on the western end of beverly. the too good to be true price ended up costing us more time and money in the long run.
