Dinette

Ham and cheese tartine with tomato and a side salad for $ 8 is one of the cheapest, best, high quality brunches in LA, boom. So it’s not a ginormous portion. So what. Stop over eating and nosh the fuck out of this high quality grub.
Also, their white cake (which I don’t even like) was so moist and perfectly sweetened (not too much!) that it blew my mind. Best I’ve ever had in my LIFE. And I’ve been to some fancy ass weddings, y’all.
PS: I hate reviews that are like «one STAR! 3.50 $ for a scone? the cookies look dry so I couldn’t even try this place.» If you write an online review of a place that you haven’t even eaten at, you are the worst. Actually really really terrible and the worst.

Four stars for stellar coffee and a waffle topped with a poached (sous vide, maybe?) egg and strip of bacon that is modest but so damn great. Simple moments when simple ingredients done well sing.
One problem, while I love the street side tables idea, Los Angeles is gross. City buses pull up right next to the seating area and plume exhaust at you. Mmm, carbon monoxide…

Really good at taking your money
Yes they’re on the pricier end but this place doesn’t do anything wrong and the set up is casual.

I’ve seen so many photos of Dinette, and I’m glad I finally got to try this spot! You literally order at the counter and there is outside seating– you actually can’t go into the shop at all as it is not open to the public. It seems that the space is just there to make the food. Since we wanted to feast, the two of us ordered 4 items.
Maple, salt, waffle with poached egg and bacon– their waffles are AMAZING. Dinette is known for these, and I can see why. The waffle was soft yet crispy, light and airy, and had a sweet and salty taste at the same time. I am not a big fan of waffles, but this one definitely rocked my socks off! I would highly recommend ordering this. I actually enjoyed this without the poached egg and the bacon more as you can really just focus on the waffle this way.
The avocado toast was a good solid choice; I liked the ratio. I also enjoyed the smoked salmon toast as they had just the right amount of cream cheese. Salmon was fresh, and the dish overall was great.
The breakfast pizza with ham and mozzarella had a poached egg in the middle, and it was okay. It looks prettier than it tastes, but it is still a decent pizza. However, I wouldn’t order this again as their other dishes outshine the pizza.
The only downside of this place is the price– a plain waffle is around $ 8, and my two items and a drink cost about $ 30. Not that the prices will keep me away from the waffles though! Great casual spot located in Echo Park; I’m glad its super close to my home!

I really wanted to like this place due to the plethora of great Instagram photos I’ve seen of the food but it was unfortunately just so-​so. Located next to a 99 cent store and a bus stop, this spot is literally just a little sidewalk café. Around here, you can always see a clash of new and old. And by new, I mean all the new places catering to hip millennials (me, duh). It’s sad but that’s gentrification for ya.
You order from the outside and sit outside as well. From the window, you will see quite an array of pastries. Seating is very limited so you’re going to have to stand and wait around until people are done eating and decide to leave. Parking is also a drag. It’s in Echo Park and on Sunset Blvd so expect to parallel park.
My two friends and I ordered quite an assortment of breakfast items to share amongst ourselves. We had the Avocado Toast, Waffle with Poached Egg & Bacon, Breakfast Pizza, Mushroom Quiche, Pumpkin Quiche, & Chocolate Cake. Disappointingly, there were no real standouts except for the Mushroom Quiche. That one we thoroughly enjoyed. Their famed Waffle with Poached Egg & Bacon was mediocre at best. The poached egg was kind of a fail and the waffle was nothing special. The Breakfast Pizza was bland and lacked seasoning. It was just meh. Pumpkin Quiche came out cold. They didn’t even take the time to reheat it! No bueno. The Avocado Toast was OK. I like that they added chili flakes on top but overall I have had better avocado toasts elsewhere and at home. Will I go back here again? Most definitely not. Stick to your usual favourite brunch spots instead.

LA is a weird place full of surreal reality-​clashing on every corner, and this is a great example of an instance like that. It makes the back of my head tingle and my stomach feel weird and queasy, and not because of the food — like I said, the food is great. I instagrammed the food. And then Antwon (the rapper) commented on it, saying «this looks dry.»
Today two stars means: I actually like it, but it’s also actually gentrification. I’ll go and screw around with statistics and ratings.

Dinette really impressed me. This is not a sit down boozie brunchy spot. It is however, the highest quality grab and good comfort food you will find in Echo Park. It’s outdoor seating only or take away. But you are served your breakfast and lunch (they served sandwiches, salads and other upscale diner goodies as well) quickly and if you eat there you are in and out in 45 minutes. I get the feeling that it is encouraged that the patrons don’t hang around long as there is always a line of people ordering and seating is limited.
I will be coming back, again and again. It rocks.

You walk up to the window facing the street, order, pay and pick-​up there. In addition to the menu, there are lots of baked treats to pick from on full display. Since this was my first time, I had to get their most popular WAFFLE, the one with a POACHED EGG & BACON. You get a crispy waffle topped with a wonderful poached egg and a single slice of bacon. It’s all really good, except… there’s way too much maple syrup for my taste. I use it sparingly so if you’re like me make sure to ask for it on the side.
