There was a point in my college career when I came here twice a week for like, two months. I had just discovered this gem and was sharing it(and more steak salads and sandwiches) with all my friends. Now, I go a little less often(mostly because I’m too lazy to walk) but still have that overwhelming happiness when I put the first bite of food in my mouth. 1. Best sweet potato fries in the vicinity. Cinnamon sugar, basically, and they give you a good amount. 2. Steak salad. I knew the salads must be good when I saw a couple of dudes sitting nearby chomping on the stuff. The salads are BIG with a bunch of awesome toppings so when I want something healthier but delicious, that’s what I get.(The croutons, though, sucked. Come on D&P, better croutons please!) 3. Minotaur sandwich. The marinated steak… yum! I swap out the onions for pepperoncinis and would recommend doing that(or adding them!) because it’s better that way. Student discount! Don’t forget to tell them because they won’t automatically add it in.

Like many other people I know, I was rather confused and disappointed to learn that D & P wasn’t a Greek place. But then I had my first burger from there. I’m not a carnivore by any means, but the guac burger(and the country burger) is delicious. Just make sure you order it to a lesser doneness than you’d actually like it. Like others have mentioned, they tend to overcook ‘em. The fries are good. The ranch that comes with them is overly herby in my opinion but still good too. Watch out for hoards of haughty frat boys while you’re there too, though. maybe its the cheap beer that attracts them?

Yummm. Quality sandwiches, salads and garlic fries in Westwood — perfect spot for lunch! They have half salad and sandwich deals or half sandwich + side combos… lots of variety to choose from — I’ve never really gone wrong with anything from the menu. Their steak sandwiches and salads are pretty decent. The only complaint I have is that last time we ordered our steak to be cooked medium rare and it definitely was more well done… at this rate maybe next time I need to order it rare!!! They also serve a Kobe burger which I wonder about??? The garlic fries seem to have gone downhill a bit… I remember them to be more garlic-y. Therefore in my humble opinion, it wouldn’t hurt for them to pour more delicious garlic on top of those curly fries to proudly call them GARLIC fries. Don’t forget to ask for a rewards card!(Although they haven’t had them the last couple times I went, but they will stamp your receipt… but still, I want my card damnit!) All in all, solid place for lunch if you’re in Westwood but could definitely use some improvement!

Every sandwich I have ordered here has been absolutely delicious! I’m a big fan of sammies and it’s nice to find a eatery close by that can make decent ones. The service is quick, but being in Westwood Village, it can be hard to find parking at times, so I would suggest just parking at the garage across the street for a few bucks! Or else, it’s free for 2 hours before 6PM!

Damon & Pythias is one of those places that I’d walked by every day for as long as I can remember and always meant to stop in but never did… I’m not sure if it’s because it was off the beaten path or if it’s because they always looked busy when I walked by and I didn’t have time to wait… but finally, about two weeks ago, a friend of mine suggested it and we went. I’m glad we did. The food was tasty. The service was fast. The staff was accommodating. It’s now a must when we’re dining in Westwood. Be sure to stop by for happy hour for premium beer at rock-bottom prices.

The garlic fries here are delicious! They’re seasoned with the perfect amount of fresh garlic! The BBQ salmon and the steak sandwiches are my favorite sandwiches here! The salmon is nice and juicy! The portions are generous! You can easily split one sandwich+ garlic fries between two people(from a girl’s perspective)! The service is usually pretty fast– you order at the counter and they’ll bring your food out to your table within 5 – 10 minutes. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating. There’s also a public parking lot directly across the street from here(on Broxton) that is free for 2 hours if you enter before 6PM, so take advantage!

I ordered the Turkey Club sandwich today and mMmmmmMMM!!! For $ 10, I got the most amazing sandwich that included a generous portion of oven roasted turkey, seasoned herbs and spices that added the perfect taste which distinguished this sandwich from all other sandwiches, apple-wood smoked bacon for that slightly crispy texture, spinach, avocado, and the MVP: cranberry cream cheese spread. The spread was thick yet sweet and oh so crucial for this sandwich. Then to top it off, the sourdough bread was perfectly toasted where the middle of the bread wasn’t soggy, and yet the crispy crust didn’t hurt the roof of your mouth. This place never fails to impress me with their food. Give it a try if you’re hangin out in Westwood!

I’ve been here a few times, but not in the last year. I have good memories here and remember that they have fantastic garlic fries! I ordered a sandwich both times I went and I really liked it. With so many restaurants and shops closing in Westwood, it’s a telling sign that Damon & Pythias is still open. It’s not the fanciest of places, but it’s definitely good for grabbing some grub with friends. Just make sure you take breath mints, as your breath will exude garlic for hours and maybe up to a day!

I love their steak! This was and is still one of my favorite places to go for a salad. When I was a student at UCLA, I would always frequent this place. Now, when I meet up with my UCLA friends, we get dinner here and then head to Diddy Riese for dessert. Damon & Diddy. How can you go wrong? I always get the create your own salad — with mixed greens, broccoli, cucumber, the crunchy seed mix, tomatoes and parmesan cheese, with medium steak flank and balsamic vinaigrette. It is a perfect plate of deliciousness, especially with the juicy and tasty steak. This place has added a lot since I was a student — nicer seats, big TV’s and overall newer feel. They also added burgers, hot dogs and an array of desserts.

I’ve been going to this place since my undergrad days, and still find it worth a trip back to Westwood. Fresh American fare(not really Greek like the name would imply), order-at-the-counter, and with a great people-watching patio. Years ago, when I fist visited, I was instructed to get the garlic fries and chicken Caesar sandwich. This is still a solid choice, although in recent years, they’ve undergone many changes… the garlic fries are a smaller portion, and less garlicky and won’t make your car smell for days if you do take-out, they even tried a froyo counter, implemented a happy hour, etc. My dining-partner-in-crime usually gets the LA Cheesesteak, and I’d highly recommend the steak and strawberry salad. Weird combo, I thought too, but the juicy steak strips, strawberries, fresh goat cheese, candied nuts, and crispy fried onions are to die for. The meal usually lasts me 2 days, as do the sandwiches. They serve beer and wine too, and I’m excited to go back and try the happy hour with Kobe burgers, beers and fries. Free parking for an hour in the Broxton structure!

An average campus stop for snacking or happy hour specials. or supposedly, as other Unilocalers write, large portions. I tried two small plates: the stuffing(I was like dang, thxgiving stuffing no way must try!) and the onion rings for a total of ~$ 5. Stuffing = TERRIBLE. Onion rings=average. Price=normal. Ambiance=meh. I will return though to try their sandwiches and utilize their student/staff discount and maybe try their curly fries. But I’m skeptical…

IF i had reviewed this earlier I MIGHT have given it a better rating, but it’s stepped down since my last visit! the first time I came, I got their turkey sandwich w/cream cheese & cranberry sauce, it was pretty good! but this last visit. i decided to go for their«famous» LACHEESESTEAK. and it was horrible! I asked for it to be cooked medium and it was WAYOVERDONE and the meat quality was MEH! we also got a side of their MUCH raved about garlic fries but I really don’t understand what the hype is all about! the garlic flavor was not very noticeable. even though i could see the minced garlic pieces sprinkled on top the only thing that seemed to be made right were the onion rings. came w/bbq sauce and ranch to dip 10% student discount, but i dont think i’ll be back! I WOULDNOTPAY10 bucks for that sammy! LUNCHNOTE: they’ve got a lunch deal for about 10 bucks. you get half a sandwich, a side, and a drink PARKING: if you come before 6 pm, the parking garage is free for the first 2 hours!

More like 3.5 stars. I love the garlic curly fries — get them! I’ve ordered a few of the different sandwiches and the burger — it all tastes good, like your typical $ 10 bistro-style sandwiches. Sometimes I feel the steak is a little bit tough, but put together with the fries, the meal is tasty. Service is fine, and dining outside is nice on a sunny day. I’d recommend if you’re in the Westwood area. Plus, there is free 2-hour parking in the lot across the street.

During a recent visit to LA, I found myself walking around Westwood Village looking for a place to eat lunch and do a little work… Damon & Pythias caught my eye because of their casual atmosphere and a sign that said«food for the Gods.» If it is good enough for the Gods, it must be good enough for me! In addition, they had a big sign out front that quoted Unilocal reviews — I was sold! I like the fast casual concept where you order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. I went with a California Cobb Salad(with turkey) and a side of sweet potato fries. I found myself a booth to sit in and set up shop with my computer… they seemed perfectly fine with that. My food came out pretty quickly and it was fresh and tasty. All in all, an «A-OK» experience… but I will point out that there were several typos in the signs out front. What can I say? I’m a stickler for typos! Hope I don’t have any in this review :)

Went here for dinner today and would definitely go back. It’s a little pricey($ 10+ for most things and sides not included) but I would say it is worth it. You defintiely get what you pay for– great quality meat, fresh ingredients, and a ton of food. I got the strawberry salad with marinated steak($ 9.95 salad + $ 1.50 for the steak) and a side of garlic fries($ 3.95). The salad was AWESOME. It had this balsamic dressing(supposed to be spicy but it wasn’t, not that I minded), avocados, crunchy onions, a sort of mascarpone cream, candied walnuts– basically tons of tasty stuff. Everything worked, both taste wise and texture wise as well. The steak was great too, nicely marinated and cooked perfectly(medium as I requested). Garlic fries were delicious– if you don’t like garlic, stay far away, however. These are pretty garlicky but not too greasy as garlic fries I’ve had before. I definitely enjoyed these. Mention you are a student(and show ID) and receive a 10% discount. Also, after 3, buy one entrée(not sides) and get another one 30% off. After all this, the prices defintiely aren’t bad and I had enough leftovers for at least a 2nd meal and possibly a third. If you don’t plan on eating much, go with a friend and split a salad or entrée and get one of the sides as well. Service was pretty good, you order at the counter and they bring it to your table. It was sort of slow but I suspect they were cooking my steak which was very fresh so not complaining.

The La CheeseSteak was something I was looking forward too. I was thinking it was a cheese steak sandwich, but it wasn’t close. I’m sorry UCLA that you have been suckered into believing this place is good. In all honesty this place sucks as does the turkey veg soup. The soup was bland and the turkey was dry. Oh by the way those garlic fries are so not garlic tasting. We got scrapes as in fries, pieces here and there. I guess I’m for fresh and tasty but this place just sucked period. I forgot my school id at home because I could have used the 10% off so I don’t have to pay that much more for my crappy lunch.

Wow! This place has been on my Unilocal fantasy list for some time and I finally pulled the trigger this morning for lunch. The place is clean, the service is good, the location is quaint, the menu is delicious and the food… was awesome! I had the turkey club with a side of garlic fries; she had the wild strawberry salad with a half tuna sandwich. Had we known the items would be so grande, we probably would have tamed our order back a little bit, but what the hell… it’s a sunny Saturday. I uploaded pic’s of our lunch, so you can enjoy too. The turkey club wasn’t little slices of turkey… it was more like I went to my grandma’s house the day after Thanksgiving and she made me a turkey sandwich. Effen huge. I can eat a lot and this thing presented a slight challenge for me. The garlic fries were great, but I’m not sure I agree with all of the reviews by people who experienced an orgasm from them… they were ordinary curly fries with garlic and oil. But still very good. I look forward to going back and trying more of their menu! On nice days, they even have a big patio to sit outside and peruse the UCLA girls, I mean the nature, while you enjoy your lunch.

Hmm… food for the gods eh? Four years after initially trying it, I am happy to see that this place still retains its great selection of delicious food that is above average compared to other places in Westwood. After a busy evening of commencement, a few grads and I without our families present sought out food options. All of the big named sushi restaurants were horribly crowded, so we settled for D&P, a place that I first tried a new Bruin, and could remember how great their garlic fries were. Needless to say, they’ve retained their delicious-ness. It is incredibly spacious inside, and can accommodate large groups inside or outside of the restaurant. There is nice outdoor seating if you’re feeling adventurous. You order inside first and they’ll give you a number, in which you place on a card holder as you wait for them to bring out the food. If you’re feeling thirsty, they serve self-serve soft drinks for about 2 dollars for the cup. Now, they say that salad is not for men, but if the Greek Gods ate it, then who the hell cares? I ordered the strawberry salad with steak, and it was BOMB! The thin slices of steak were tender and juicy, and the strawberry medley in my seemingly healthy salad gave it an extra kick to it. I highly recommend you order a large one because it is definitely worth the extra food. And of course, garlic fries are a MUST. Good times indeed! My tummy was definitely satisfied, and if Zeus really ate like this everyday, then I am quite jealous. A hearty meal about $ 12 with a drink. The beer selection looks interesting, as well as its price. I’ll have to try it out again before I leave Westwood. Parking is available outside on the street or in a nearby lot(free after 6PM).

Cheap, delicious, unpretentious. On this day of celebration for my friend Anthony S’s UCLA Graduation, the group went to Damon & Pythias. I had a wonderful Michelob Porter, and delicious LA Cheese-steak Sandwich topped with blue cheese crumbles and caramelized onions, plus Anthony and I shared curly garlic fries. I treated Anthony and my total came to just about $ 27 with tip. We were able to sit on the patio and enjoy the day.
