My boyfriend and I had a very bad experience at this place. He wanted a plain torta egg and beans only, we explained that as we ordered and I wanted huevos rancheros. My food came out first and his took 15 – 30 minutes to come out. When it did it wasn’t how we had wanted it. All the while there was a guy on a lap top talking loudly to a girl who was working in the back. This shouting back and forth was disruptive and didn’t make for a pleasant atmosphere as we waited. I told the girl at the register what happened. We wanted this plain. Egg and beans only please. It took another 15 minutes to come out and when it did it had extra stuff in it and it was awful. Like the cook purposely sabotaged it. I was upset by this point because now my food was cold. I got up and told the girl in the back, who was the one talking loudly with a guy on a laptop about buying tickets… she did not say sorry, let me fix this for you, here is your money back, she took my boyfriends plate and started an argument with the cook. He left and so did we… no compensation for the food we didn’t eat. Won’t be back.

I came in to Cuscatleca Bakery today. I was impressed by the variety of breads and pastries they had ready. I purchased about 20 pastries and I could not believe how reasonable the prices are. The staff was very friendly. And of course the pastries are great! :)

So this is my first time in Los Angeles, My older sister lives out here. Today is her 30th birthday and because I missed her so much and wanted to give her a really nice birthdays gift… Thanks to Unilocal I was able to find this bakery which was very close to my hotel. I contacted this bakery and told them I would be traveling from NY to LA and I don’t have a car to travel around. I asked them if it would be possible to deliver the cake for me. Thank god they were such nice people that they agree to deliver the cake. I sent them an email of the design of cake, Size and Flavor… They’ve contacted me back and gave me an amazing price and let me know that they can have it all ready for the day I needed it. They delivered the cake bright and early, and the girl even explained not to put the cake in the fridge cause the fondant will crack. I had to give her such a big hug and thanked her for such beautiful work. So I know sometimes with theme cakes you can have a nice beautiful design cake and it won’t taste good… That is not the case here. I ordered a vanilla cake with butter cream filling and it was so delicious… My family really enjoyed the cake and my sister was so surprised and happy… They really helped me give my sister one of the best birthdays ever.

Food is okay. It’s not bad but not anything you’ll remember or crave. I eat here because of convenience of location. Though I mostly try to avoid because they have the slowest service I’ve ever experienced. Pretty consistently slow. I order take out often, and it’s not rare to wait 35min for chilaquiles to-go. Oh well.

Man it’s been awhile since I’ve really felt the need to leave a bad review. Please take in to consideration that I’ve been here a half a dozen times to stop in and get a quick, last minute birthday treat for friends. Everything here seems very poor quality. From the cakes to the many desserts I’ve sampled. Today was the final straw. I had previously decided to never go here again but my boyfriend convinced me to try their sandwiches and give them one last chance. We came in super hungry and decided to grab a sandwich. I got a milenasa torta. I wish I would have taken a picture of the amount of chewy, inedible meat they put on it. There was about two small bites total of meat for the whole completely dry sandwich. My boyfriend got a tunamelt which was slightly better but still not up to par. We weren’t looking for anything fancy, just a simple sandwich. We got home-fries on the side which turned out to be unseasoned, boiled potatoes. This place has so much potential but it’s just turned out to be a huge disappointment.

Omfg they have the best fruit tarts ever. The only thing is that I wish it had blueberries because I love blueberries… But regardless, AMAZING fruit tart. I can go on about how much I love their fruit tarts, but it’ll make me seem crazy. Anyway, The rest of their pastries look really good too. Probably gonna try their carrot cupcake next. THAT looks super promising Anyway, back to the bakery… It’s in a small plaza, Small Parking lot, but it has a nice little feel to it. You pretty much just have to try it to understand what I mean. Oh and the girl who served us was great. She was super sweet and let my mom try half of the pastry bread she wanted to get. I really like this place :)

If you ask for a quesadilla, you might be surprised that they give you a circular pastry that’s reminiscent of cornbread but sweeter. I’m totally addicted to now. THANKS A LOT. Cali Steak Sandwich & plantain chips = delicious.

I was so happy when I found this place‼‼ Salvadorean breakfast are in point I haven’t find any other place like this one. So sad that they don’t have pupusas though. The sweet bread is delicious. I’m coming here every weekend if I can … It’s worth it. The staff is really friendly as well

…uhmmmmmmm… Negatory. Don’t let your eyes be fooled by the pictures. Upon my first taste of the pastries I realized that they were cheaply made — by that I mean that they substituted good ingredients for less than… probably to fool the Unilocalers. But not I home fry! My first bite left a weird after taste/or film of some sort in my mouth. I know the ‘Real Thing’ when I taste one! This place tries to be what it is not and that is why I’m writing this review. Not because I want to hate on this place but simply because it is not good. Lol. Seriously. Let’s get real for a moment. I’m sure you’ve stopped at a place thinking ‘this looks great’ but later thinking ‘I should have gone somewhere else’…This place is THATPLACE you want to stay away from. Just a heads up darlings. If you end up here you deserve it. I won’t be fooled again. Not even if you treated me. WOW! Your workers rated this place 5 stars. Lol. Nice try. !Below is the owner’s response to my posting! «go an take your shitty hateful self somewhere else :)» I would like to update my posting by including sucky costumer service. THEEND

I think I’ve hesitated on reviewing this place for so long simply because I’ve had so many different experiences here. Yesterday however I had a pretty solid experience so here it goes! Service here is always extremely iffy. I have come on various occasions and for the most part the employees aren’t the most warm or welcoming. Yesterday I must have been in luck because the girl that was there was genuinely nice and very friendly. She wasn’t wearing a name tag or anything and I didn’t want to be awkward but she had a lip piercing and had cat eye makeup. As for the pastries themselves, they are good but nothing special. Same for the salads and breakfasts. 3 out of 5 times I’ve ordered food something has been either wrong or missing from my order, but it wasn’t worth fussing over. Parking is lame. The one amazing thing from here are the bolillos! Literally best bolillos ever!

Very reasonable prices & friendly service. I got a slice of angel layer cake with basic white frosting & strawberries. It was well made — fluffy, tastey, and light — about what I expected. I got a pretty big slice for only $ 2.60. If you want a little treat and you’re in the area, you shoud definitely stop by. But don’t go out of your way to visit. Overall: Nice, clean bakery in the Echo Park area in a small stripmall plaza with its own small parking lot. Spaces are a little narrow, but small parking is better than no parking in this area!

Cuscatleca is a terrific little café on the Echo Park/Silver Lake border. I shop at Pepe’s and Sunset Bazaar across the street quite often and shopping all those mid century modern pieces can make a girl hungry! I love their chicken salad sandwich and their house salad a LOT. The chicken salad is a great mix of fresh and crunchy ingredients, and the house salad is a giant heap of spinach and mixed greens, tasty grilled chicken, cranberries and feta with a balsamic dressing. I’ve tried to steer clear of their baked goods because I really shouldn’t be eating that stuff, but their quesadilla bread was calling out to me one day and I couldn’t not answer. Yummy! The only drawback is the lack of customer bathroom, but it’s forgiveable since the staff is so sweet and everything else rocks! Try ‘em for lunch if you’re in the area!

Deliciousness. We stopped in for breakfast and we were not disappointed. The place is just a small bakery/café with a small menu, but the food is very good. The ingredients are fresh and they have a lot of flavor. We ordered the abuelas breakfast plate(amazing!), and a breakfast sandwich. I was so impressed that I ordered an entire box of mexican bread to bring back home with us, and we live 2 hours away! We will for sure come back next time we are in the area.

Can’t say that my first experience here made a good impression. The chorizo egg torta was ok. The best part about it was the bread. The croissant was also just ok and the coffee was lame. Their pastries looked good though I did not try them. I’ll be going again and updating as I have heard good things.

Coffee: 4 stars Pastries: 5 stars Service: 3 stars Cleanliness: 4 stars I have to say that I’m fortunate to have this place so close to where I work. The coffee is very good and their pastries tempt me every time I walk in. Everything here appears to be done with care and it shows. I plan to continue frequenting here, so I plan to update this as I get to know it better.

Bread is fresh to deathhhh. They have an entire crew in the back just working to provide the next batch. I got the berry danish(something I’ve never had before anywhere else). Delish. I wanna come back and try other things. My stomach can’t fit it all in one sitting!
