I love this gallery, I highly recommend it to everyone, great art, great people and excellent vibes, good space and atmosphere, affordable, easy to find just 1 block east of Atlantic, I’ve exhibited my work here and I am currently in an exhibit here. Cheers

So, I am an art enthusiast plus I love Mexican and Chicano art. My mom’s mentioned this place to me and i thought«wonderful, I’m in the area… I’ll check it out». WORSEPLACEEVER… SORUDE. Let me tell you all… I had two male friends with me and we walk in and the lady at the counter to the left of the entrance is looking at me like I walked into her abuela’s house. So rude and super unwelcoming. Quite the opposite of I would expect to receive. I may not be a big time gringo buyer but I expect some decency, I wasn’t gonna rob the place… BYTHEWAY! But what did I expect from people capitalizing on our culture’s beauty and art. Also, you should be welcoming to people in this community, you’re in East LA … people love this type of art, be grateful that people come into your establishment(NOONEELSEWASTHERE)… because guess what, there are people all over LA selling this same thing. Minus the rudeness… plus you get it direct from the artist and not ass-hole third parties. P. S. I saw a lot of Frida Kahlo representations, she would be ashamed to have her face plastered all over this place.

This is a great art gallery /boutique. I walked in and was delighted to see all these handmade jewelry and handbags. I muttered under my breath, «I want to buy something here.» My husband did end up buying this beautiful turquoise necklace for a Christmas gift that was a great piece of art. The owners directed us toward the back to see the main gallery and were really impressed with the art they were exhibiting. There were some art pieces that were just mediocre, some awful cholo /ghetto art, but there were others that were really amazing with lots of energy, good composition, detailed, and lovely choices of colors. But really, a lot of art galleries in this town are kind of like that, i., e some that are meh-okay, others god awful, and then some true diamonds in the rough which become more amazing when compared to sub par stuff.. This being my first latino art gallery, overall, I really enjoyed what this place had and can say that it truly has a strong and loud latino identity. The owners(I assume) were very nice and helpful.

This is a great gallery and gathering space. They carry beautiful art created by Latino artists from across California. They also have a nice store that stocks very pretty accessories. It’s a great place to shop for gifts. Make sure you check out one of the exhibit openings or musical events because it’s a great space for a gathering.

As an art curator and collector I’m always on the lookout for new and exciting art by local and fine art artists. ChimMaya is the go to place for me when I’m in L.A. I always know I can see great new art and at the same time pick up great gifts. Living in San Diego I wish they were closer but it is worth the detour when visiting L.A. just to see the brilliant colors and textures of not just the art but the gallery it self, it is art in it’s own right. The owners always seem to have time to talk and make you feel welcome. I recommend ChimMaya to my friends and family not just when you NEED something but when you want to go some place, you’ll always find something you like and a reason to come back.

I must say, ChimMaya is perhaps the most influential contemporary Latin art gallery in Southern California. But ChimMaya is not simply a gallery, so don’t be fooled. ChimMaya is an EXPERIENCE. One doesn’t stop by to just browse and look at the amazing pieces of artwork on display; you can actually shop as well, because they have an amazing collection of jewelry, hand bags and fun accessories. And from experience, let me tell you, it’s hard not to come out of the gallery with at least one item or two. I have purchased four great pieces of art from this gallery and I am so happy I did; I always get complimented at home for having exquisite art pieces and some of the most striking ones, I actually discovered in this art space. They recently renovated their exhibit space and even created a fabulous outdoor patio with chic furniture and an oversized budah fountain; a true oasis to just chill. For those who have complained on here about the price point, well, that’s just ludicrous. Their handbags and accessories are very reasonably priced and art, well, that my friends is really priceless. ChimMaya is a sophisticated intersection where high end art gallery meets a fine jewelry and accessories boutique. I am a fan and will continue supporting this unique and culturally enriching space. Steve and Dan are gracious hosts and once you become a regular, you too can enjoy a glass of white or red wine and just chill with them all afternoon! I LOVECHIMMAYA!!!

Great collection of art and artistry. The owners are warm and welcoming, informative and helpful. See something you like but it’s already sold? Just ask, they may have more pieces from your favorite artist hiding in the back! Can’t decide? Take a few moments of meditation on the couches in the sculpture patio with the offered glass of wine! Can’t wait to return for the next show.

I thought this place was the greatest but I bought a $ 150 necklace from them and a week later it busted. I called to see if they can repair it. I didn’t want to return it just have it fixed. No one ever called me back. Very disappointed. Horrible customer service. I’m out $ 150! Buyer Beware!

Splashy colors and spicy music welcome you to this vibrant gallery. Sign up for their email list and you’ll get the heads-up when they hold receptions(complimentary refreshments people!!). Art is scattered throughout the boutique areas but there are two rooms dedicated to gallery areas. When I visited in May they hosted a show honoring«La Mujer» to celebrate mothers’ day. One of the most memorable pieces was a piece painted on a tortilla(who needs vellum when your abuelita can bust out your next canvas with her bare hands?). Even though I rolled in as they were wrapping up the reception the staff members I encountered were all friendly and informative. Furnishings, handicrafts, jewelry and purses are available in the boutique. Mark up on the calaveras is at least twice what you’d pay in Mexico however you don’t have to pack it and pray it arrives in one piece(trust me, the clay ones ARE delicate). The purses were gorgeous and well-crafted(all leather though. so i had to pass). I’m hopin’ for another Frida exhibit, last year’s tribute included artists’ interpretations of Kahlo and tons of Frida look-a-likes(could there be a hotter art event on the planet? Highly doubtful, but if there is, let me know). Parking options? Street. Closed Sunday & Monday.
