I was excited to try this new place. We got there early and were racially discriminated. The waiting area was full so we waited outside the door. I proceeded to ask after half an hour and the hostess replied, «I crossed your name off.» We just decided to head out to Burbank and eat Octopus. They are the best and have never let me down.

I have to say the quality of the food is great however after my experience tonight I will most likely not be going back. We ordered 2 rolls and they were brought 20 mins apart. The waitress never check in us I had to hunt someone down to see what was going on. I felt forgotten and upset. To top it off the waitress did not even excuse herself she acted like nothing happened and it was on its way. Horrible horrible service.

Best of the Best. It is family when you are there… Fantastic food and now more seating at new location. Congratulations to Shig on his new location with better parking. I can’t wait for summer evenings on the patio.

My family and I have been coming here for over 21 years! I promise you will not find a better sushi spot in Southern CA! Ive looked and tried numerous and nothing compares. Yes its a little pricey, but you get what you pay for! We come here twice a month because its THATGOOD! The owner trained in Japan so its the real deal there. If you are a foodie, then thats the place to be! They just moved to this new location but its the same chefs and same high quality fish!

The new location looks great. Both dining area and parking(now lower car friendly) has increased immensely. And the quality is still amazing. Congrats on the milestone Shig and everyone at Chiba! If you want to see my review of the old place here is a link:

For those who have not eaten here before, Chiba is as good as it gets. It’s always been excellent, I’ve never had an experience to really complain about, and I haven’t found too many places comparable to it. The sushi is very fairly priced for its quality. They have a great variety of fish here, including some that are not too common: jumbo clam, sea eel, and tobiko, among others. The chefs are all pretty cool too. I can’t say I have a favorite, I leave quite content regardless of which one I’m sat in front of(although if you sit in front of the owner Shig and strike up a conversation you can learn a thing or two about sushi and the restaurant). My personal recommendations on what to order: red snapper sushi, salmon sushi, and spicy yellowtail hand roll. You can even order the joy nigiri if you want a sample of the more premium fish on the menu. They give you ten pieces of the more expensive fish for about $ 25 if I recall, and it’ll give you a good idea of what to order next time. As for the the relocation… They moved to this new spot a couple of days ago and we dined here yesterday. It’s literally around the block from the old one. The parking situation looks like it’s improved significantly. All of the original chefs are still here, including at least one new face from what I saw. I wish them the best of luck and hope this restaurant continues to prosper. P. S. do yourself a favor and end your meal with a scoop of red bean ice cream!
