Champagne French Bakery Cafe

There were 3 of us in here for some early morning breakfast. The guy taking our order at the counter and making drinks was new, but seriously giving it his all. One drink order was incorrect (I hadn’t even noticed) and he fixed it immediately. Nice people, decent pastries, easy parking.

This place really went down in the last 2 years or so… The food used to be decent, now it’s just bad. Got the mushroom barley soup today and it was so salty, I couldn’t even finish it.
That was my last time getting something from there.

Best cream brule in the city n good customer service prices at fair n also they make a really good hot chocolate

The almond croissant is 9 out of 10, which is hard to find in the LA area.
The ambiance is pleasant enough, and easier to get seating than next door at Starbucks.

I stopped there twice, with the second visit being from today. This is near my work, so I went there to get dessert after eating lunch somewhere else. The almond croissant was great, but the coffee was just decent. It tasted more like black tea and water. I’d rather have a coffee that is freshly roasted and have a deeper, more bitter flavor (so that I know that I’m drinking the real thing). The almond croissant is way better than the one at Starbucks. It’s bigger, and has more almond crème filling without going overboard. There is a good balance between the pastry and the filling. A major drawback, however, is the price. I ordered a small coffee to go and a pastry both times. The total amounted to $ 6– $ 7 each time, which I think is too much.

Had breakfast catered by here from work. I loved it! The yogurt was, for me, the right amount of sweetness + consistency and the granola was wonderful with it + berries. It reminded me that healthy can be tasty. I tried a croissant sand which that was amazing as well. Granted, I didn’t pay for this and both times it was a surprise when i walked in so I am sure that plays a role.

This place is OK. My least favorite part is the smell that clings to you after you’re done eating.
Additionally, the placement of the women’s restroom is weird, as it’s near the front of the store (with the letter W on it). The men’s restroom is located in the back, where I think all restrooms should be.
The pricing of the food is OK for Sawtelle. The sandwiches aren’t the most amazing and the bread could use some work. The french dip didn’t have melted cheese like I love and the bread was far too thick and not that tasty for what I paid.
I may just come back for desserts and pastries, which always look delicious. But not sure I’ll be coming back for lunch.

I had my order to go. The service wasn’t great, but images speak louder than words. I opened on of the 2 orders and found my quiche completely torn apart as if it fell on the ground, splattered, they picked it up and put in the box. Oh, and there was in hair in there. Not ever going back. The second order of breakfast croissant was so disgusting my husband refused to it. So we threw away $ 26 worth of food including the coffee.

I’ve passed by Champagne bakery hundreds of times without stopping in. I finally ventured here to an almost empty shop. Price wise– disappointing. ($ 7 for a bowl of French onion togo) However, the French onion soup is what I came in for and it didn’t disappoint. I probably won’t find myself trying the pastries and other plates as they seem just okay (ie tarts, macarons, crepes, eclairs, crème brûlée). I wouldn’t recommend this café/​bakery to friends and family because nothing about it wow’d me, but I’d stop by alone for a bowl of my favorite soup!

Good lunch spot! I love getting their half and half combos. The goat cheese salad, quiche, French onion soup, and carrot ginger soup are some of my favorites. They also have a whole display of desserts which all look so amazing!

I had never heard of this place before until my friend mentioned it. We are there recently and it was decent. I had a lunch combo that consisted of a chicken pesto sandwich and a Cobb salad. The salad was pretty poor but the sandwich was okay. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the bread they used for the sandwich. It was really hard! Bleh.
Although I certainly would not return to this place or go to any of its chain locations, it gets the job done. For the prices they offer, you could eat somewhere better. The service was alright which is always a plus :)

I’m not mad. I’m disappointed. For one, I shouldn’t have given this place a second chance after they screwed up my order the first time. Yet here I was again. Again in a rush and again ordering the same sandwich. Fresh baguette, turkey, brie, tomato, and lettuce — to go.
I asked if the baguette was fresh and in response, I was assured that it was. The pleasant cashier assured me that the bread is baked twice per day. She was very surprised when I emphatically informed her that the last time I ordered it, it was stale. She confirmed my order with exact specificity not to toast my bread or make a panini out of the sandwich and charged me eleven bucks. No sides — just the sandwich.
Sometime later — longer than it takes to make a sandwich of this kind, much longer — she brought out a nicely packaged sandwich in a togo bag. As Joe Pecci once said in Lethal Weapon, «Don’t ever go through the drive through. They screw you at the drive through, because you won’t come back.» Okay, okay, okay. As I found out in my car, truer words were never spoken, sir.
The sandwich was a poor excuse for two pieces of bread put through a panini press. Super dry and salty turkey. Naturally, the brie had melted into nothingness and the bread, well, even if it was fresh before, it was arid from that thorough aforementioned pressing. Hot Romaine letuce and a sice of tomato.
A French bakery which cannot make a baguette sandwich with brie… I’m not mad. I’m disappointed.

Cute little bakery with a variety of eye-​pleasing pastries. I had never been here before and was hungry at 3:30 in the afternoon so naturally it was time for second breakfast! Their menu is very much like Panini in that it has sandwiches, some salads and soup, etc and it’s kind of pricy, but I ordered the breakfast sandwich on a wheat bun to go. It has avocado, tomato, cream cheese and egg all wrapped up in a freshly baked seeded bun – YUM!!! It was the perfect size. Note: sandwich is not pictured but I highly recommend it!
I was also quite thirsty and wanted an iced tea, but a different, more interesting flavor. The friendly, green haired cashier was awesome and helped me pick out the Tahitian iced tea. He tailored it to my needs when I asked him not to make the tea so sweet! When it was ready, he brought it to me with a smile. Very good customer service on his part!

I love love the fruit tart and I am not a big fan of macarons but the raspberry macarons one was really good. They are small but really good. I had my fruit tart with a orange juice which was super good and sweet, inside the orange juice it had a slice of orange. The workers are really nice and also really helpful.
I want to go back to try the food. I want to try the French onion soup.
I didn’t try the coffee but my mom who is spacial with her coffee, said that the coffee is really good.

Great French food! This is a fun lunch spot to grab food on the go or eat there. They have amazing salads, crepes, and French-​dipped sandwiches.
My favorite is the French-​dipped sandwich. The portion sizes are pretty big so it’s definitely a bang for you buck kind of meal. The service is nice and fast!
I’m surprised it’s located in Little Osaka where a bunch of Asian restaurants are but if you’re ever feeling something different than noodles, then come here: D

Been a few times before.
This time there were no lemon slices for drinks-​they were all out.
It’s kinda confusing where the line is when it’s busy. I think you just order at the register, but then you have to walk over to the pastry counter if you need to show them what you want from there.
They take credit cards. Street parking. Garage in the shopping center.
Service can be a bit slow. If I hadn’t reminded them about my quiche I may have had to wait longer, not sure.

An exciting menu, but mediocre food. It’s not bad but it’s not good either. My quiche (spinach and goat cheese) wasn’t as good as the frozen one I heat up myself from Trader Joe’s. Staff were super nice though! Just don’t want to spend my money on «blah» food.

I live down the street and eat at restaurants on Sawtelle probably every other day, but I had only tried this place once before today (got some breakfast to-​go and it wasn’t too bad). My friend suggested we meet there today for lunch. I did the half sandwich with soup and asked for the French Dip. The guy at the counter made me repeat «french dip» 3 times (English is the only language I speak) and looked at me like I was nuts — hello, look behind you at the menu on the wall! F-​R-​E-​N-​C-​H D-​I-​P.
So I guess I wasn’t too surprised when the sandwich that I ended up with was not a french dip at all, but some kind of turkey sandwich with vegetables. The portion sizes were tiny — for $ 10 I could’ve gotten a giant bowl of ramen elsewhere. I’m not a big person and I was still pretty hungry afterward. Regret not taking a picture of that sad little cup of soup and that pathetic sandwich as evidence. Plus, it wasn’t really even good! The soup was just all right and the sandwich’s bread (plain, white air bread) was all soggy and gross.
Had my fussy 6 month old with me so I didn’t bother asking them to fix it — that was on me. Won’t be trying this place again.

Though this is a seemingly popular place I have to question why. The food is so-​so and the ambience is terrible due to the acoustics of this place. Due to its design it so much more loud than it should be. Sound reverberates and echoes, killing any hope of having a nice moment with your dining companions. In other words it is noisy.
It terms of atmosphere it is sparse. But it is a café so you can’t really fault it for that.
One of the bigger problems is the lack of staff. They are kept to a minimum so the service is sketchy at best.
Overall not bad, just not good.

It’s TST: Two Star Tuesday again!!!
I haven’t been to a Champagne in a while, so when I had a breakfast meeting in the area, I decided to stop by. This location is on Sawtelle & Olympic in West LA.
I ordered the smoked salmon quiche w/​red potato salad ($ 9.65). They also offer full breakfast and an assortment of pastries. Unfortunately, the quiche was pretty bad. The crust was rubbery and fell apart, and I could tell it was microwaved. Additionally, there wasn’t much smoked salmon and it was salty. On the other hand, the potato salad did not have enough salt: 2 Stars.
The ambiance is OK and there is outdoor seating. However, there is no wifi: 2 Stars. On the other hand, the service was very good. The people are pleasant and proactive: 4 Stars.
Despite the OK ambiance and service, this place deserves 2 Stars because of the pricey, mediocre food, and lack of wifi. I wanted to come here vs Starbucks next door, because I wanted a real breakfast. However, what I received was microwaved food that was not that good. In addition, for the prices they charge they should offer free wifi. I ended up at Starbucks anyway!
