I always say the best part of summer in LA are the frutas guys on random street corners– a rainbow umbrella as a small glimpse of heaven. But then I think of all the times I’ve seen these guys around in December. Really, LA is a magical place, with Cesar’s being one of the best around. I hate getting unripe mango or a bitter cucumber(especially embarrassing when I’m with someone who has never been blessed by a fruit cart), and that’s never happened here. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Two friends and I shared a large for $ 5. Once we finished, we realized we wanted more, but Cesar had already packed up. :(Now we’re just craving more.

Best fruit stand in LA! Wish I had some right now! Very friendly guy and he hooks up generous portions of fruit, lime, chili powder, seasoning, and even the tangy sweet tamarindo juice if ya want! Sooo delicious and healthy and refreshing. I had some earlier today and I wish I got seconds for the evening. Next time!

A perfect day for me consists of breakfast from cesar’s fruit stand. He has the freshest fruit nearby and puts just the right amount of chili salt and lime.

Damn! I have passed by this fruit stand a thousand times. Today had to run over to Best Buy on my lunch break and I was starving. I figured what the heck I’ll grab a bag of fruit. I opted for a medium bag for four bucks… holy shit!!! This fruit is off the charts good. I am glad to know he is out there all the time as I will be back regularly for my fresh fruit fix!!!

Yungster P. is my real life BFF with a true affinity for all things spicy and delicious. So last Saturday when I found myself craving some Mexican-style mango and pineapple with the perfect amount of lime and chili singe after an intense workout, I thought I’d stop by Cesar’s fruit stand and show the man some love for my BFF. You can find him right by the Best Buy driveway on Sawtelle between Pico and Tennessee during the day. Rarely do these fruit stands disappoint, unless they run out of mango, which makes me sad. But Cesar had everything I wanted in a large $ 5 bag. He even layered the chili powder for me so it wouldn’t be clumped at the top. It was the perfect post-gym indulgence during a warm and beautiful summer’s day in LA. Gracias, Cesar!

Cesar is my homie! I used to work right across the street from this fruit stand, and would go 2 – 3 times a week. These bags of fruits were like my afternoon bags of crack to get me through the day! Yes, I know I’m not allowed to make a comparison to something I clearly have never done… but seriously, I can’t get enough of these fruit bags! Fruits to pick from: Watermelon, pineapple, mango, orange, cantaloupe, jicama, cucumber, coconut. Top off with chili powder, salt, and lime juice. You can actually pick and choose which fruits you want, which is awesome because you can be economically strategic and pick the most expensive fruits, and still pay the same price! Each bag is $ 3 to $ 5 depending on what size you want; I always get the $ 3 bag and it is always more than enough. Compare this to the $ 5-$ 10 you spend at Ralphs on a little bowl of mixed fruit! It’s a steal! What I love about Cesar is that he lets me be picky! I like my mangoes green, crunchy, and as unripe as possible. He caters to my needs and searches around his stash for the greenest mango he could find. Additionally, I like my fruit heavy on chili powder… AKA I use up half his bottle of chili powder, and he doesn’t mind. Even though I no longer work across the street and am unable to go every other day, I still pay Cesar a visit on Saturday afternoons after my workout, and he still remembers exactly how I like my fruit. Sometimes I tip him a dollar or two to show him how happy he makes me.
