I hadn’t seen the response but let me just explain from what I KNOW. The banners and handbillers on behalf of any union(1506,409,1600 etc.) can be actual carpenters or not, but they are all employees of the union. They are called to current construction sites or to the funding source of individual construction sites and asked to remain at a given site until the construction is completed or the company switches to union represented carpenters. These people are just there to distribute handbills or hold the banner in front of the business for their safety. These people have been attacked both physically and verbally by angry non-union workers in the past, and also the disputes with these companies are in ACTIVELITIGATION which anyone knows you are not allowed to discuss with unconcerned parties. Whether you agree with unions or not, everyone has a right to protest anything from scab contractors to cold soup at Denny’s if you don’t agree you could always walk/drive on past. God bless America and the people who always have an issue with something! :)

You are welcome to disagree, however, I would say it’s obvious that your opinion is skewed based on your own admission that your father is a member. I would further urge you to take my original review to heart, and process it as a view of the public towards the actions your father’s union takes; rather then becoming defensive and dismissive about it. The point of protest is to encourage public support of injustice for your cause. From the two examples of the union I have seen, the unions current policies are a mockery of that system. You admittedly protest at a location that is not the current source of the issue, but rather the source of the funding. A carpenters union protesting in front of a building with no construction going on is confusing, and leads to people asking questions, which leads to my next point. The workers are«not allowed to talk about the issue.» So you have a bunch of people protesting in front of a building with no construction, which are not allowed to talk about what they are protesting. Which is then only made worse by the hiring of people –even if they are relatives– who are so obviously not construction workers. All of which may be forgivable if you had a genuine issue to protest, but it’s not illegal to hire another carpenter to do a job for less. If I am looking for a job, and some place interviews me and decides to hire someone else, I don’t stand outside of their office waving signs and screaming desecration of the american way of life. It all just seems like a scare tactic to try and embarrass a company into hiring them, which is why it’s done while the issue is still being debated, which is why the hired protesters can’t discuss it, which is why it’s pointless to protest at that time unless you are using it as leverage, which is why I think it’s underhanded, which is why I wrote the review. :)

These people are unbelieveable. Same as above. They have been outside of our offices for over 3 weeks in regard to construction issues but we have absolutely no construction going on. I have left 5 messages and noone ever calls back to discuss their issues. I mirror josh’s comments and the people holding the signs dont have any idea why they are standing there and barely speak english. What a crock.
