Great barber shop. Relaxing environment with a good crew of barbers. Felt like I had been coming there for years from the first visit. Eddie has great attention to detail and helped me fix a bad cut from previous experiences at another shop. Good to find a home base for cuts.

Great cut. Great service. Great value. Fantastic attention to detail. Each barber I’ve had (Eugene’s my guy) has helped me articulate exactly what kind of cut I want. It’s a craft in itself. Highly recommend.

So I moved from the Bay Area down to SoCal, I been here for more than 2 years jumping from Barbershop, to expensive hair salons, to just shaving my head. Until I finally came across Calicuts!!!
First time I decided to try them out I was helped by Eugene. I walked in trying to get a fade since that’s the only hairstyle I was able to rock due to my spiky straight hair. When Eugene asked what I wanted, I told him most likely a fade, but also I asked him for advice on what other possibilities I can have, hoping there was something else. Eugene asked me what I would like, and he walked me to the process of growing my hair if I wanted a combover. I was open to it but hesitant at the time since no one had been successful in giving me a different cut and style. I decided to try him and took his advise to see what would happen…
Eugene takes his time and does not stop until your hair is spotless. Fades are amazing, and styling even better. After three months and by following Eugene’s advise, I went from a fade to a comb over which I really like. He showed me how to style it and recommended «suavesito» (which is just as amazing as he is) He has been the only barber who not only takes the time to cut hair but is proactive enough to discover the style you are looking for, and strives for premium service wanting to build a clientele rather than clerking out people.
Amazing person, amazing hands for your hair. Honestly I never though my hair would look this good, specially since previous barbers and stylist told me that a fade was my only option.

Just to start off, ever since moving to Los Angeles, I’ve had A LOT of haircuts from a bunch of different barbers, and I can finally proudly say that I’ve found «my barber» — Papa Gino (Eugene). I’m usually the type of person where if someone does it right, I’ll be a consistent client, but it’s taken me quite a while to find that «someone» lol — no homo. But after trying different barbers for the past few months, Papa Gino transformed my hair style into something I finally realized was «the one» lol
So other than that, you will walk out feeling like a BO$$, the atmosphere there is incredible, the other staff members are all friendly and welcoming, the TV’s there will keep you occupied if you got your favorite team playing while getting your cut, and they got the right stuff for your hair — stuff you can’t really find very often in stores like Suavecito (which, in my opinion, is the best). Last, but not least, they got FREE COMBS, which was perfect for a guy like me who was in dire need of one lol

Free combs. First thing the #thriftyballer in me noticed when I arrived. Already a good start. The 49ers also won that day with Blaine Gabbert as QB so I’m feelin nice.
Came in for a shave. Never had one before but Eugene helped me out and I had a great experience. Really nice dude. Takes his time and really cares about the client. Did a great job and will definitely come back and try to get a cut from them next time.

This place is great. Very pleasant, clean and bright. All the barbers/​stylists are professionals. My boyfriend is very demanding but always satisfied with Edie’s work. Today I got my hair trimmed by J. Simply love it!

Seriously, this is not your regular barbers shop. Calicuts is Super Super Clean –all WHITE– Ceiling to Floor! NO SMELLS. NO FLIES. NO LOUD NOISE. TOP-​GRADE FURNISHING. MODERN. CLASSY. TRENDY. FRIENDLY. PROFESSIONAL. HIGH-​LEVEL CUSTOMER SERVICE.
But the factor that takes the crown is SKILL AND TALENT! Johnny has been my personal barber there for over 5 months, and this dude is Aaaaamaaazing! Highly skilled, cheerful, respectful, great customer service! He gets an A+ always!
EDDIE (A+) and EUGENE (A+) are also highly talented barbers with great personality! I have seen Eddie and Eugene dish SUPERSTAR haircuts!
In this shop, it’s all smiles and cheerfulness… and they even serve you free bottled water if you’re thirsty! These guys obviously know what they’re doing!
For $ 30 a haircut, I think it’s very worth it… you leave that shop a happy and satisfied man… or woman!
There’s always safe and free street parking on the residential streets off the high-​fashion Melrose Avenue or parallel to Melrose Avenue… and you just walk up cheerfully to the shop!
Finally, here’s that PERFECT barber’s shop you’ve been looking for… so you have no reason to keep your hair looking like a dinosaur: P

I found out about this place through my boyfriend who got a haircut there, which turned out amazing! I don’t really do anything too fancy with my hair other than trims every few months. Recently though I’ve been wanting to try something new and get an undercut with a design. I saw photos of girls with undercuts and thought it was just bada** and pretty liberating. I also have super thick, long hair and wanted a style that would keep me cool without having to chop my hair short. The owner, Eddie, was super friendly and receptive to my feedback. He took his time, especially with making sure he had a straight part. I gave him free reign on the design and it came out way better than I expected! I’m SUPER happy with my undercut and will be coming back!

I have to say I have trust issues when it comes to my hair and there is nobody I trust with my thick, wavy hair than Jaie. He’s the man! He knows exactly what to do and if I’m tired of my hair style he offers suggestions that compliment my facial structure and gives me good insight on what I should try. He has many years of experience and can do any type of hair! He’s not only amazing and precise at his cuts, but he is a great colorist. Jaie is the absolute best and I will follow him no matter what shop he’s at.
If you need a cut, don’t even think about it. Go to Jaie and you will NOT be disappointed.

Probably one of the best shops I have ever stepped foot on, and I’m lucky enough to be a barber here!
Clean, classy, modern, etc. From the Salon in the back to the Barber shop in the front. Everything is on point. Oh and the waiting area for the ones waiting also. Good jams playing and sports on silent for the ones that want to watch. If not, there is enough magazines to choose from. Water? Feel free to ask for some complimentary water.

I used to only care about one thing when I went to the barbershop; and that was a good haircut. After coming to Calicuts off Melrose I realized there’s so many more qualities I was missing out on. 1) A barber that keeps you engaged through good conversation. Not just wham, bam, next! All the barbers have awesome personalities, but my personal favorite is #Papaginothebarber. When I leave Calicuts, Papaginio has me feeling like I can pimp on any chick hahaha. Truth! Come get a cut here and leave feeling legendary.

Had a great experience here. The shop is clean and great feeling of elegant and not just an average barber shop. I took my son to get his hair cut with Eugene. He was friendly, knowledgeable and when I told him it was my son’s 10^th birthday he definitely made my son feel VIP.
Great place and I will be taking my son for his barber needs. :)

The Dr. Ed Stone! Follow him on IG! He did such an amazing job! This by far is the best customer service I have ever experienced. It’s not your typical barber shop! Everyone is so friendly and nice! It was my first time getting s «half-​shave» and Dr Ed took the cut step by step. He didn’t rush through anything. He reviewed the style unwanted before cutting and I so appreciate that. It wasn’t scary at all! After my style was complete I was extremely happy with the results. I am so proud to have found these guys on Instagram. Check them out on Melrose! Guys and Gals! Found Ed and calicuts from their Instagram page. I had my regular barber at the time but when I shaved my hair off and decided to grow in back I decided to give calicuts a try after getting nothing but great feed back about the shop.
I emailed Ed about making an appointment the same day. Ed responded real quick and set me up for later that afternoon.
Parking was easy and once in the shop Ed and the staff where great. I am definitely going back as I found my new local barber

This review is long overdue since most reviews are about the barbers!!!
As a female, I’ve been going to Calicuts and seeing Jessi Jo for my cut, color, and style. since around the time they opened. She’s my go girl! I’ve been to a few hairdressers in LA and have noticed that they charge a lot for average, standard, or even lackluster results, which is a huge bummer! If I’m going to pay a lot of money I expect to see results that make me happy. Jessi is so great and her rates are great too! She is so talented and was able to achieve my hair goals (over time). She is patient and is honest with her opinions, but respects you as the client! She isn’t pushy at all and is really just awesome. She does a great job with pastels and bright, vivid colors but definitely knows her stuff when it comes to more natural colors as well. Her main concern is that you are happy and that your hair stays healthy during the process! Over all, I’m really happy that I’ve found Jessi! There’s none of the pretentiousness or any of the ego that most LA hairdressers/​barbers have at this place. Friendly and chill vibe :)
I’ve gotten my hair trimmed by Ed and Eugene as well, both of whom were super nice and did great jobs! My boyfriend also gets his hair cut by Eugene, and continues to go back (and he’s really picky)!
