I used to perform at this place. Around 2012, my friend Steve told me about this place. The barista are pretty cool, except the kid who usually gave me a hard time, he’s the reason I would say: Meh. I’ve experienced better. The food is good, I used to enjoy their tuna sandwiches with some sour-cream and onion kettle chips. This was back when I used to take the bus, so when we used to perform, I’d always have to leave first; they were okay with staying open late, and my friends were too, but I had to go. I was a nice little place, and I did help them out a few time with getting some traffic, but there are other cafes out there in LA, and with better and more mature management and staff. I’m almost sorry to see it go.

When it’s Fall season, I’m on the hunt for some pumpkin. I’ll take pumpkin anything. When I heard that Café in the Heights makes a pumpkin latte, using real pumpkin, I was in. There was a very young, but very professional little man taking our order. We thought, «oh, that’s cute». After taking the order, he started making our drinks. It seemed a little odd, but he turned out to be one helluva little barista! We were in need of a sweet accompaniment to our drinks, so we asked him what his favorite thing was in the bake case. He shyly admitted that chocolate chip cookies were his weakness. We asked him to choose a cookie for us to split. He selected the cookie with the most amount of chips. Kid didn’t steer us the wrong way. It was a damn good cookie. Pumpkin drinks are obviously seasonal, which makes them so special. If you haven’t tried a pumpkin latte with real pumpkin, this place is for you!

Maybe I hit up the Café on an off day. In my crazy culinary quest to drink iced coffee from all the little coffee shops around, I stumbled onto this place on my way to work. They just seemed very disjointed. I had to ask twice if there offered any fresh fruit options.(They didn’t.) They didn’t have a lot of pastries either. But the coffee was good.

I just moved to this neighborhood and was looking around for a new study spot. I really like the vibe of the place. I order a latte for about 3 bucks and it was very big. The boy working was very nice and provided me the wi fi password. Even with a dollar tip it was definitely worth coming here to do work for about 5 hours straight. really dig the simple and homely vibe of this place. definitely my new favorite local joint.

This little joint makes a better cappuccino than the green and white place ever imagined. Nice selection of breakfast pastry and great sandwiches made with quality ingredients. Really glad I work near by.

Wow, this is an amazing spot. Swing the door open and feel the great vibe. Friendly and mellow atmosphere, delicious, inexpensive coffee. Went here on a whim and will be back. These people are going beyond a café– operating at a higher level.

I lalala– LOVE this place. Has a nice atmosphere, excellent friendly staff, and is really a hidden gem. It’s one of a kind in Lincoln Heights. How much better can it get than a cup of freshly ground and brewed coffee? It’s a nice, aromatic, naturally sweet blend. And their Tuna sandwiches are a MUST! Best tuna i’ve ever had! Tender browned turkey is delicious too! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it! The prices are just right and trust me you get more than what you pay for! These people don’t go light on the servings. I say you skip the $ 5 footlong and head straight here for a sandwhich& add a bag of some Dirty Chips! As for hot teas i’d recommend White Orchard or if your in the mood for a cold iced tea ask them to make you a peach iced tea. It is delicious after a long hot day. Long story short; I’ve never been dissapointed with the food or service! This place is a must try(:

What can I say the heights is my city and the Café is my stop for coffee; Breakfast sandwiches and a healthy snack! The employees are fast, efficient and cool at what they do. I love the location, outdoor seating and Free Wi-Fi plus when I’m biking it they provide a bike rack for convenience and the ambiance is mellow and eccentric at the same time. Prices are decent and food is simple but exceptional in the taste! I’ve been to many coffee spots but this one makes you feel at home and at ease. If you ain’t afraid of the hood, and are ready for whats good check out the Café in The Heights! Variety is the spice of life and they got it!

This place is a refreshing little café… in the Heights. I heard about this amazing Pumpkin drink they had(from here on Unilocal!) back in December so I rushed over the next morning. A very young boy(12ish?) let us in since they were just opening(maybe the owners son?) he was extremely polite and pleasant and so was the older girl behind the counter. I ordered the two drinks that were on the Specials menu but was sad to hear that they no longer had the two drink — I was a day late — they ran out of the seasonal ingredients the day before. I was pretty bummed, but I still ordered a basic espresso drink. It came out well, with just a tad too much bite, probably from the beans they were using. I’ll be back for a few more drinks and see how the barista handles the machine.

Café in the Heights is good for a quick caffeine stop in the neighborhood. I want them to really thrive because there isn’t much in the way of coffee on North Broadway. In fact, I think they pretty much have the market all to themselves as far as coffee goes. I think it’s a family run store because there was a 14yo kid working behind the counter when I was there. He rocked it though. Walked me though the menu, offered suggestions, and make my drink pretty quickly. There was free wifi. They need to improve the music and overall and the place seemed a little dark. I feel like they do almost no advertising at all. They are located near Montecito Heights and I know there are a ton of people who are crazy for good coffee up there on the hill; they need to do some marketing and let people know they’re open and ready to brew just down the hill. Overall, I wish them much luck and success.

There is a sharp contrast between the lincoln heights neighborhood outside and this quaint and very cute café. Great hot cocoa. Tasty sandwiches. Superb service from VERY nice cashier. Probably the only one of its kind in this area. Reasonable prices for such a nice looking place. The first time I walked in I was in shock — what the hell is this cute café doing across from the yellow eyesore of Lincoln High School? Am I in another city? This does NOT look like Mexican food!!! WTH. Don’t come here expecting a burrito or tacos, amigos. But do come here for something delightfully outta place in lincoln heights. Wish I came here more when I went to LHS. I’ll be back for hot cocoa. :)

Just had a late meeting with a couple of colleagues at Café in the Heights, and I was impressed with three things: 1. GOOD pumpkin chai tea! You can tell it’s real pumpkin. Yum. 2. HUGE meeting room in back, through the door to the bathrooms(which open off the meeting room). Thanks for letting us move there for our meeting even though it was just the three of us. Seemed ideal for movie nights, art shows, open mic, maybe a cozy musician venue(I was going to say«band» but a drum kit plus guitar, bass, keyboards, singer… that would take up a fifth of the room right there). 3. GRACIOUS staff let us stay well past closing time. I won’t say how long because I don’t want to obligate them to do it for everyone, but I really appreciate it. Plus, their credit card machine was down when we arrived so they served us our drinks without hesitation, without pay, and said they would come back & charge us later(which they did when machine was back in service). And they did all this BEFORE we had tipped them a dime. So I made sure to slip some cash into the tip jar on our way out. The guy who took our orders earlier noticed me do it, and actually said«Wow, thanks, really it was no big deal». Since when does a barista act like you tipped him too much, or your tip was beyond the call of duty? Well… since I stumbled upon this delightful little coffeehouse gem. If all their drinks are as good as that chai, and all their service as good as those two guys we met, then this is a genuinely amazing coffee house. I am looking for an excuse to return, this time with more time to spend in the front of the place, and more money to spend sampling their other wares.

Working in the neighborhood can be a little difficult when it comes to food options. Most of the time you are stuck between Mexican food or fast food. I was very excited when I saw this place was going to open up. Fortunately, this place did not disappoint. Though the coffee is not my favorite, the chai lattes are amazing. Right now, they have pumpkin chai lattes made with real pumpkin which are superb. The sandwiches are a good option also. They are very generous with the meat and are well priced. They have free wi-fi and comfy chairs and tables to lounge in.

4 Stars = «Yay! I’m a fan.» Like a neighbor’s newborn child I’ve watched Café in the Heights take its baby steps slowly the past few months. When their sign was posted announcing to the world who they intend to be, I thought what silly people would venture in a coffee shop here? Though hundreds of cars pass by their storefront each day I reckon most of them still view Lincoln Heights as a slum and will never stop for anything more than a cheap gas fill-up at the Shell. But there are those of us who live in this slum and I for one am ecstatic about having a local coffee spot to call my own. Now that CITH is ready to serve the community I’m unashamedly filled with a sense of pride — the kind where you tell people you went to school with the best wedding photographer in LA even though it has nothing to do with you, yea that embarrassing kind. I was even excited to get one of those«First to review» ribbons from Unilocal but was inexplicabily beaten to the punch. I paid them a maiden visit on Friday thinking they’ve already opened but was told their grand opening was the next day. They served me anyway and chatted for a bit. The prices were fair and the latte was good. The owners are fellow Lincoln HS alums so you know the venture is not entirely business, there is a sense of giving back. If there is one drawback it’d be the parking. They do not have a lot, DONOTPARKINADJACENTRODEOGRILL(formerly Taco Bravo) LOT. I parked in there for 5 minutes and they were quick to stick a note on my window, with 5 strips of tape no less. I get the point, one strip is enough. Aren’t we going green guys? Geez!!! Good thing I had my tasty latte to wash out that sourness.
