Yes, it really is a sandwich counter in a Chevron. But, yes, they really are surprisingly good sandwiches you’d never have thought came from a counter in a Cheveron. The man working the counter was very friendly, but a little slow getting over to help customers when I was there a bit after the lunch rush. But, he takes care with the sandwiches and keeps things spotlessly clean. The one major mark against Between Slices was, it was incredibly hard to actually navigate into the lot. It’s right next to 405 on and off ramps, so the traffic is super dense. So, if you’re not headed west on Santa Monica Blvd, be prepared for a struggle!

_what I ordered: — Club Sandwich: These are a great bang for your buck! They’re under $ 10 and the quantity is at least two meals. When you open the container, it seriously looks like 4 separate sandwiches. The lettuce has a nice crunch to it and the meats all taste fresh. — Quesadilla: The portions are again HUGE; but hey, I’m not complaining. It’s all great food! — Southwest Chicken Panini(w/avocado): I tried replicating this sandwich I loved in the Bay Area called the«Chicken en Fuego» from Ruby’s Café(see my review), and although it was close, it wasn’t quite the same. I feel like it has something to do with the cheese or chiptole sauce not having enough kick to it. I’m going to keep tweaking it until we get it right! ^-^ — Beef Samosa: This is exactly what it sounds like. Large fried beef Samosa with some good spices! — Tomato Bisque(Thursday): this is a nice thick consistency and very flavorful; great for a June gloom day! _atmosphere/service: This place is connected to the mini-mart of the Chevron so no one really expects to find quality food here but this is a great hole-in-the-wall joint. Jose, the gentleman that prepares everything is super friendly and does a great job! He keeps the kitchen really clean too. _parking: I have always walked to the place because my office is a 5-min walk away but I’m sure you’re allowed to park in the spots at the gas station. If not, there are some meter spots on Sawtelle, which is only 2 small blocks away.
