I live near this place and have been buying there since Benny was still there. Benny was a nice guy and so was his wife. Unfortunately benny passed away and his wife sold the store. The new owner took over around 2003? I think haha. But yeah, the new owner is nice but i feel like his employees are rude to him and they even boss him around. They take advantage of him because he doesnt speak english or spanish that well. It has a lot of stuff so thats good but the bad part is that some stuff is a bit pricey. Also the owner is to slow at the cash register and it drives me crazy! Another thing i dont like is how they have this one machine where you can win money and the same group of people are always their and they block the freakin aisle! This one time those people where there the whole day, seriously. Its annoying because I’m there trying to get some bread and they wont f*****g move. Oh and i did say excuse me but they’re to busy playing on that shit. But whatever its the closest store to my place so I guess I will continue shopping there. I’m too lazy to go up the hill to the liquor store or three blocks down to the«Liborio» Ps: they take EBT –______-’ hahaha

To be honest, this is not a review of the«market» as much as it is for the taco stand that’s set up outside. Went here with a couple friends after a night time bike ride with«Critical Mass» and I have to say that $ 1 carne asada taco hit the spot. Hot off the grill with all the fixins(onion, cilantro, salsa) this was actually my first foray into LA street food and it more than lived up to my expectations. If you’re in the area and got a dollar, do yourself a favor, stop by the parking lot of Benny’s Market and get a taco… you’ll be glad you didn’t go to the Taco Bell down the street. UPDATE: My friend just informed me that this is probably only open at night, but the guy said he was there 7 days a week, so plan accordingly.
