A great spot for water, pop, juice, ice, lunch, hot dogs, sandwiches and burritos when you’re in the neighborhood. They have fruit too. When one is on the hunt for internationally iconic street art, one can land in new and interesting lands. Especially when one punches 3500 E 5th St instead of 500 E 6th Street into the endlessly yammering GPS. «Turn Left on Ca Hoo Eng Ga» NOW! The Pixels Made Me Do It… I wrote that trip up yesterday. In 2010, El Mac copied an Estevan Oriol photo onto a Crocker Street wall in the Mission/Skid Row area. Retna followed with his unmistakable personal alphabet and script. The Fat Cappers and others have been capturing that work ever since. I was on the last leg of leaving Los Angeles, still had the rental car, guided by Lady GPS. The Mac blog page shows a tall white building, no others in sight. Downtown Los Angeles tall building clustered together except… I punched the GPS off, was coincedentally on 6th Street. I passed a white 12 story solo building, passed Crocker, looking over my shoulder. Ka-Ching! «Blessed Are the Meek.» I circled the block, found a VERY closely watched vacant one hour parking curb. I left the car and captured an image set Panoramio will send to Google Earth. Along the way I met Shorty, Green Eyes, James, Butter and others. I offer you, the street art hunter, learned guidance. — Do not photograph local residents without their permission. — Let them know what you’re doing on their street. — Do not give anyone cash. Juice, pop, water and donettes from D and D are acceptable. People spending time on the street infrequently spend the cash they beg on what they begged it for. But, don’t let your brother or sister human go hungry or water thirsty. — People can come in the store and pick their own juice, water, pop, etc. — Some people may not be viewing the same reality you do. Be patient. Everyone wants to be recognized and heard. — Do not hunt Los Angeles Street Art at night. Unless you know somebody local Really well. Thank you guys, we had a great street art session.
