Notthe best tacos I’ve had. They were okay. You have to know their schedule because they do not always serve their full menu. Don’t think I would go back.

I don’t know anything about their food, because after 5pm, all they serve are tacos, which they cook on a grill outside the ‘restaurant.’ As in, NO menu items whatsoever. WTF? I think it used to be a Chinese fast food restaurant, by the way. Or it looks like one, anyway.

We went here by mistake – the Filipino place next door where we ordered a plate of lumpia’s for our Thanksgiving lunch was closed without explanation. So, we walked into Antojitos Chilangos and they were super accomodating and put together a great plate of quesadillas and other tasty treats that pleased everyone. Great service!

revised: CLOSED as of March 2012. we’ve been coming here on and off for the last year. it’s all made from scratch. truly excellent street food prepared with great attention to detail. unfortunately, they’re selling the business. the location is wot done it because the food is the rare, simple pleasure that always over delivers. may the cook be hired somewhere downtown for quadruple her current take-home.

Best Sopes in Highland Park! I’ve also tried the huaraches and the tacos, but the sopes are what keeps me going back. Definitely worth trying!

The LA Weekly blog about the use of squash blossoms in restaurants is the reason I drove all the way to Highland Park to sample their squash blossom quesadilla, which is actually called de Flor de calabaza i quickly learned. I guess my idea of a quesadilla is an inauthentic one since I thought I’d be getting jack cheese in it, but this place uses tiny amounts of cotija cheese and huge amounts of white onions and lettuce. It was really more like a giant squash blossom taco with a really thick and crunchy corn tortilla. The squash blossoms themselves had likely been soaked in meat juices so they were very soft and flavorful. But the lack of cheese really bummed me out overall. The habenero chillis hidden inside the quesadilla sent my mouth into a four alarm fire(sure to give me the runs) and I do like things spicy, but that was ridiculous. Don’t know if I’ll make the trek out there again, but it was great to sample some authentic fare and I enjoyed the brief departure from americanized mexican food.

Wow I’ve passed this place so many times and always looked at this place as just another business that moved up from a taco cart to a brick and motar that is barely hanging on BUT I slapped my ignorance self after I took a bite into their quesadilla, I knew I had another place to eat at when I wasn’t feeling the local flavors. A great alternate to Huaraches Azteca. The quesadilla from Azteca and the one at Chilangos has to be that one is made from home made tortilla and one is served like a giant taco laid sideways. They both pack the inside with everything. Finally, the kicker literally was when they asked me if I wanted salsa I thought it would be the usual salsa roja/verde but I got this unusual orange cup. It should of been a big hint but it just flew over my head. When I finally got home I brought with me the meal I got from Chilangos and some fries from Troy’s that I swooped by before I got home. Well my mother takes a fry and curious on the salsa that came with the quesadilla w/o a thought she dips her fries into the salsa and puts it into get mouth while I was busy taking out the rest of the food, I start to hear coughing in the background that gets louder and louder. Once I turned around I spotted her panting with her tongue out and fanning it with her hand. With tears in her eyes she cries«you got Habanero salsa!»

Wow. Antojitos Chilangos was recommended to me by a friend in the neighborhood so my husband and I went. Wow. The food was divine and the friendliness of the people the tops. I ordered potato tacos and while they took a long time compared to say, My Taco, they were the most delicious potato tacos I’ve ever had. I believe a grandma was back there cooking them up with all the grandma love. My husband gets carne asada tacos wherever he goes and here he said they were the absolute best. They care about the food in a home cooked family way. The ambiance is just basic but the food… try it.

One of the only delivery spots in Highland Park, we got lucky to have a restaurant with such damned good food. Great pambasos, probably the best gorditas I’ve ever had, and(if you stop by the shop) excellent agua fresca. My only complaint is that when the food is delivered, it tends to come in styrofoam. It’s not that I’m a crazy environmentalist, it’s just that the styrofoam tends to make the food get a bit soggy.

Being a Chilanga, I have a cery high expectation for Chilango food. I’ve had the pambazo and quesadilla. The Pambazo is perfecttion. I can not get enough of this place. I look for any excuse to end up here.

tried the cubano super torta(milenasa, jamon, and avacado) and the chicarone quesidilla. the torta was not great(the milenesa had been reheated and was luke-warm) but the quesadillas was much better b/c you could tell it was made fresh.

I grew up in this neighborhood and have tried many places to eat Mexican food. Thought I’d had just about every«authentic» Mexican food… So I was happily surprised by the tacos and quesadillas from this place. They’re darn good! They’re not your usual tacos or quesadillas, they’re bigger, fatter, meatier, and the hand-made tortillas are really good. The salsa is fresh and made from scratch. I also tried their chilaquiles de asada and it is GOOD. The environment is very relaxed, the service is excellent(the big dude @ the front is super friendly), the prices super cheap for great, quality, authentic Mexican food. I don’t live in the neighborhood any more but I’ll stiil drive out there for some good grubbin’. If you do live in the area, they deliver! :). I also found out that they do catering and private parties. If you want great, authentic Mexican food, you must check out this spot.

Ok, this place wins my vote because 1. they deliver(fast) and although they do not take credit cards however for small orders they will sometimes take a check! I’m sick with the flew, and just got chicken soup and a large O.J. It’s perfect! The chicken is shreded, which wins my vote, les fuss less mess, and the O.J. was totally fresh. IThis place is my new delivery choice. Thanks Chilangos!

Estilo Chilango… DF…Mexico City Style food they are located in a small shopping center on the corner of York & Ave 56 Not as good as Metro Balderas who also serves Chilango style food and is located in the same Highland Park neighborhood on Figueroa *see my review. Mexican FAST Food is their claim? OK, was in a hurry and placed my order to go! and I was the ONLYCUSTOMER in the place, I waited and waited«FAST Food» it’s NOT, but they must cook the food(meat) to order so the wait is worth it… I Ordered 4-TACOS CARNEASADA… good size Tacos meat has good flavor but what the HELL is up with all the HUNKS of FAT! *I ding them 1 star just for that or I would have given them 4 stars. I THINK the salsa had good flavor but can’t be 100% sure as I have NEVER seen any place that put’s such a SMALL amount of SALSA it was RIDICULOUS! unfortunately my order was to go and they did not give any extra on the side! JUSTBEWARE of these guys if you place an order to go, might go back but probably would go to Metro since it’s so close by and they take ATM or Credit card where Antojitos is CASHONLY.

I followed Jonathan Gold’s writing to this place, just like I did with Metro Balderas last weekend, and it’s going exceedingly well. Antojitos Chilangos is a small and unassuming spot, just like the majority of its contemporaries on York Boulevard, and appears to be run by a husband-wife pair whose kids were hanging out in the small seating area watching iCarly when I came in. I ordered one of the quesadillas(con chicharron, I think it was $ 3.50) and a gordita, similarly priced. Both were phenomenal, and the texture of the masa in each case was probably the winning element. The quesadilla is not what you’re used to. It’s shaped more like a large Jack in the Box taco, only with a soft, thick tortilla served sideways with excellent sauce, and the usual accompaniments(queso fresco, lettuce, etc.). The gordita was great as well, served very hot with a crunchy outside and softer inside. I had a Mexican Coke to accompany these items down my gullet. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to try the pambazo, which I’ve heard good things about. I imagine this place might get a little slower when it’s busy, but I went during lunchtime and I was the only customer there, so I had no problem. I ate my food and watched Nickelodeon with the proprietors’ kids, who were awesome and not afraid to mingle with this customer. Maybe if you aren’t into hanging around kids while you eat, you wouldn’t be as comfortable. Aside from all that, the prices were low and the food was authentic and 100% satisfying. No complaints.
