I have enjoyed my meals there. The flavor is amazing. I think the staff needs to work on their customer service skills. I am in the hospital right now and I called in an order. Asked if my friend arrived a few mins late would they be able to give the order. She arrived at 9:07pm. I’ve been calling and so has my friend. When someone came to the door, they told her they had no order for her. The lady who answered was extremely rude. Now I’ve been calling from my hospital bed and no answer. Their food is great but like any great place, you will fail with horrible customer service.

Today was my first time visiting Ackee and I was extremely happy. I placed a to go order of the oxtails and jerk chicken. Both were tender and flavored perfectly. The jerk chicken was the best i’ve had because of the way it was cooked. Most grill the chicken making it dry, but this version was baked in the sauce to a moist perfection. I loved the rice and peas, cabbage, plantains and festival bread. Oh yeah, I can’t forget the chicken patty… every bite was perfect! I felt like I was on the island. I forgot to get the young lady’s name who took my order. She was very pleasant and professional while helping me figure out what to order.

Been coming here for about 8 years… They have a different special every day of the week. Good traditional Jamaican cuisine. I really like the curry chicken N brown stew chicken or tilapia.

The food here is nasty. I ordered the curry goat and it smelled like old socks and tasted like feet!!! I will not be going back here. The people that gave other reviews must have been family. Absolutely no flavor at all, not good flavor any way.

I came here once for takeout and I was sooooo impressed with the tender ox tail and flavorful, slightly spicy beans and rice. The boiled cabbage was peppery and still had a slight crunch – the perfect complement to the stewed ox tail. Looking forward to going back for more!

Sorry. I got sick from the shrimp. When I ate meat they had a decent oxtail but nothing to write home about.

Yum. Yum. Yum. Food was amazing. Service was courteous and sort Of fast. Several options to choose from and vert fair prices. I chose the brown stew tilapia which was the best tilapia dish i have ever had away from my home. At only $ 14.95 for the large serving, i was shocked at the portion size, and even more surprised that i was capable of finishing it all(such a pig). Rice and peas and cabbage were average. Now to the missing 5th star. Why in the hell would you have a togo restaurant option and not spring for a wall menu, sandwich board, or smoke signal? Why are random strangers passing around one menu? Please do better. You have 30 different newspapers available for reading but one menu? Overall, good food. Lackluster environment.

My friend & I wanted something good, and looked for the nearest place with the best reviews and most comments! Ackee Bamboo Came up, & we went there! I’m HAPPYWEDID! I had the oxtails Mixed veggies, rice & beans, festival bread with a Jamaican cream soda! #Amazing! I’ll be back soon! The customer service was good & their fresh juices are a bit expensive, but very good none the less!

One word: AMAZING. Every time I’m in the area I drop by and order a dinner portion of the oxtails and happily eat it all by myself AND lick my plate/styrofoam container. Don’t judge me. The veggies are superb, the peas and rice are delicious, and that bread is so heavenly. The plantain completes the«party in my tummy, so yummy, so yummy»(kudos to you if you know who I’m quoting). My husband tried the stew chicken and he liked my oxtail more. It takes a while for the food to come out but well worth the wait!!!

I went in after purchasing a coupon deal — the food was pricey for what you get in regards to the normal plate price outside of the Lunch special or daily special. I think I prefer Wii Jammin to Acker Bamboo the rice & pea was just OK in my opinion. I enjoyed the festival bread & plantains! Ordered more of both to go :) It wasn’t too busy around 4 ish but as it neared 5 it started to get s bit busier. The décor was … More a kitchen homey feel. Service was nice, mom and daughter were welcoming and kind Preferred to take it to go but the coupon required we eat there. The curry chicken was very tender & spicy toward the bottom. My husband thought the rice was tasty and says the curry chicken plate was a great value for the daily special price(7.95) I got the short ribs plate — the meat was tender but not amazing in flavor, also spicy. Cabbage was tasty. Again bread and plantain was delicious Wouldn’t recommend to friends

My boyfriend and I live in the Leimert Park area, we frequent Ackee Bamboo often. We enjoy the Jamaican food and the family that owns and operates the business. Our favorites are the Curry Chicken and the Brown Stew Tilapia dinners but we will also breeze by to grab a few veggie or chicken patties when we can. This Unilocal deal is out a sight — Thank you. Great food, good people!

Woo hoo! DEEEELICIOUS Curry Goat! It was great. Soft and tender. IT went great with their steamed cabbage. They also had good ginger beer. Same ones you can buy at the stores but hey it’s still good. The restaurant is small, but we came with a group of six and snagged a table easily since it wasn’t too crowded when we were there. Another good thing is that they have a Unilocal deal currently in case you want to try this place out. This place is pretty good as well as Front Page, but I haven’t been to a Jamaican restaurant I did NOT like. Metered street parking only for this place. But if you go on Sundays it’s free!

Stew chicken, rice and peas, plantains, cabbage, and festival bread? It doesn’t get much better than this! Well, ok, maybe adding a little fall-off-the-bone oxtails. But, I digressed! Taking me back to my Friday nights on the east coast where I often found myself at my favorite Jamaican restaurant, Ackee Bamboo served up juicy chicken drenched in sauce alongside caramelized plantains. I dipped the fried bread into the sauce and really enjoyed and savored every bite of it. The entrees were generous in size. I was able to get two incredible meals out of this lunch. Others enjoyed the jerk chicken plate, the jerk chicken burrito, and bottle after bottle of ginger beer. Service was pleasant, but not speedy. While you wait, you can take in the Caribbean ambiance with the green and yellow color palette that adorns the restaurant. When your food arrives, you’ll be glad that you exercised patience! It’ll be worth it.

Ackee Bamboo Jamaican Cuisine is a hidden gem located in Leimert Park. I’m so happy to have a good Jamaican restaurant close to my home. The inside is small but very cozy. The décor is modern and homely. It kind of make you feel like your in your living room. Bathroom is located outside. You can also eat outside on the side patio. It seems to be family owned and operated. the cashier was nice. She greeted me and helped me decided what i was going to order. I order the oxtails and goat combo. It came with beans and rice, mixed vegtables, plaintain and festive bread. It was a little pricey but so delicious. The meat was full of flavor. The festive bread was so good, I had to order some to go. Plaintain were sweet and fried to perfection, only gave 2 small pieces though. Bean and rice wad perfect. I give them 4 stars because the food is excellent but I would like a bigger portion for the cost. If you like authentic Jamaican food, give them a try.

The food here is excellent with matching customer service. They seemed to have handled the Ciclavia crowd pretty well. I ordered the brown stew chicken and it was really tender. The cooked veggies were a good compliment as well as the rice and beans. The serving size is more than enough. If you can’t find a place to sit in the dining area or patio, you can eat your food inside the café next door. They will bring your order to you. Oh, and they also make juices and smoothies.

In the heart of Leimert Park which is the showcase area for African American commerce & culture, there are two eating establishments that come to mind: the venerable Phillip’s BBQ, which is take out only but is one of the standard bearers of BBQ in Los Angeles, and the long gone Babe’s & Ricky’s Inn, which was a bar and featured their famous fried chicken dinner and jazz/blues entertainment one night a week that drew a large crowd from inside & outside the community. We went to the Festival of Masks that was a down home, community based version of a neighborhood parade of kids & adults of mostly African American heritage & their supporters who wore masks inspired by regional African culture & art, which started around 3pm. Our group leader kindly arranged lunch at 1pm at Ackee Bamboo Jamaican Cuisine. You line up & go to the order counter where you order your food & drinks. Ackee & Salt Fish which is eponymous with the restaurant is available only for lunch. Credit card, debit, bank card are accepted & there is a surcharge of $ 1.00 for its use if the purchase is less than $ 7.00. 1) I ordered the Jerk Chicken where you get sides of rice & peas(red beans), fried plaintain, & steamed vegetables. For some reason we got an extra: Festival bread which is fried in oil & was like a beignet, but the texture was a bit closer to a heavy pound cake. The Jerk Chicken was colored brown from simmering a long time in a spiced broth that had a strong taste of nutmeg, but also garlic, cloves, cinnamon, maybe a touch thyme with a bit of Scotch Bonnet or Habanero chile peppers. The drum stick & thigh were slow cooked & came right off the bone tasting of a spicy, herbed, smokey sweet flavour. The steamed vegetable seems to have been sprinkled with yellow curry powder which gave the cabbage, carrots, yellow bell peppers a light aromatic herbal tone. The Red Beans & Rice was a nice bland touch after eating the spiced Jerk Chicken & the curried vegetables. The fried plaintains were starchy, lightly sweet & also bland. 1a) I ordered the Passion fruit & Cucumber restaurant made drink, but it turned out to be mostly orange juice. It was still a good thirst quenching accompaniment to the Jerk. 3) I ordered the Beef Patty to take out which was like a pastie or meat pie. It seems baked & huge, but most of it is an air pocket. The pastry is heavy, slightly sweet while the meat is ground beef with a bit of herbs & spice. I’ve had better empanadas, but the Beef Patty was fine. This meat pie would go well with a huge green salad & probably a nice ale or hop rich slightly bitter IPA. The staff is friendly & helpful in an ingenous, unassuming manner without putting on airs. What you see is what you get. The food is definitely worth coming for since Jamaican food is not exactly on every street corner in LA. A good change from the more ubiquitous Mexican, Chinese, American eateries. One caution: this is not cuisine minceur. It is not slimming cuisine. The enjoyment of the food here is tasty, fatty, starchy, with no apologies to Weight Watchers. Good solid 3 stars.
