It’s a good thing I didn’t live in LA when A Taste Of Life had a storefront, or I’d probably weigh 700lbs by now. This is not just amazing vegan food, but amazing FOOD– an important distinction. I spend my whole week waiting for Sunday to roll around so I can make the trek down to the Hollywood Farmer’s Market to get one of their breakfast sandwiches, which are out-of-this-world, mind-blowing INCREDIBLE. I’ve had pretty much everything on the menu, and it’s all delicious, but the breakfast sandwiches… OMFG. It’s Friday, so I’m going to have to wait 2 more days until I’m able to get my hands on one again. I don’t know If I’m gonna make it.

Their storefront is closed but they are at the HOLLYWOOD Farmers Market on Sundays between 8 – 1. The lasagna is the best I’ve ever had in vegan form. The mac & cheese I have had better. The kale is good and the cornbread is good for vegan. Now the vegan sweet potato pis is great. They cater on request but they only do the Hwld Farmers Market on Sunday. They also sell other items like the Vegan Mc Muffin, mini cupcakes for a $ 1.00, etc. Check them out.

After driving up from Long Beach, we discovered that this location has been closed for the last 7 weeks. Luckily, there were people there when we arrived, however they were just there making food for the Farmer’s Market, which is where they pretty much do all their business now. The owner was really nice about explaining that they were closed and even let me borrow his key to use the restroom. He even told us about another vegan restaurant that was close by. They still have a billboard advertising the restaurant right outside in the parking lot, which is misleading since they are closed, but it helped us find the location. As others have said, the location wasn’t great, so I understand them wanting to do their business elsewhere. It sounded like a cool restaurant, so if they open somewhere else, I’ll try it then. As for those close by, check them out at the Farmer’s Market.

Unfortunately, this restaurant is a disgrace to all palettes everywhere. The service was the worst I’ve ever experienced, probably because this restaurant has a reputation for not paying their employees. When I walked in, the ambiance instantly threw me off… the place reeked of an unidentified, unpleasant smell… I was tempted to leave, but had heard good things. After receiving cold, smelly, and horribly presented food… I asked to speak to the manager who promptly told me that if I didn’t like the meal, I could pay and leave. I was curious to know why I should compensate a place who’s service was so appalling that my boyfriend got visibly angry. When I excused myself to the restroom, I was shocked to enter a lavatory where there were streaks of feces on the walls. I decided that this was the last straw. This place is unsanitary and unsafe to eat. I would not recommend it to anyone, and I plan on contacting the board of health to investigate this travesty masquerading as an establishment of dining. WOW.

I’ll start by saying I’m not vegan, or even vegetarian. I love this place!!! The Almond Soy shake is so good! Picking three entrees is the best. We had the vegan loaf, mac & cheese, and bbq tofu. All were delicious; the bbq was my favorite. I definitely prefer vegan macaroni after many gross memories of my childhood– stirring that yellow powder into the noodles that came out of the blue box. I don’t know why people complained about their location below; there is a huge sign that shows they are in that little complex and the seating is comfy + plentiful. Staff there is nice too. The guy gave us a recommendation for this really intense ginger drink– we liked it but definitely had to take bites of food in between sips. My boyfriend got the raw chili, which was crazy but good. It was made of a zillion nuts. Not really a fan of the mock chicken salad– but that goes without saying– I hate anything that resembles chicken salad. Needless to say, we were stuffed. One of their meals is enough to share between two people! We will be back. I am so happy this place is within walking distance. Even if it wasn’t, the fact that it has a parking lot is awesome. Can’t wait to go here late sometime. Ah, the benefits of living in a big city!

The food looks so good in the pictures and the reviews are glowing so I decided to pay this place a visit. It is located in a broken-down strip mall but when it comes to vegan restaurants I only care about the quality of the food. Okay well I also care about the health department rating… They had a B rating — what a bummer. I. Will. Be. Brave. What the hell is that strange smell? So I ordered the combo plate and took it home to eat because obviously the atmosphere was making me lose my appetite. The food was okay — a nice change from the usual vegan fare, but it was definitely NOT fresh. It tasted like reheated, pre-made food. I can tell that when their food is fresh that it is probably good but unfortunately that is not what I got. The lasagna tasted gritty, the mac and cheese tasted gritty, the beans and the yams were okay. The corn bread tasted gritty. Basically they are serving old food that they scoop out of large bins(I saw them doing it). I most likely won’t be back, but maybe I can catch them at the Farmer’s Market where(I hear) they serve their fresh food.

Hells yes! When you’ve just been served a pizza that has real cheese on it after you’ve specified fake cheese twice… and it’s past 11 pm in LA… you are BUMMED. Until you happen upon A Taste of Life! Yay! We got our fake cheese on with some amazing mac ‘n’ cheese… mixed in the kale. It was magictown. The cornbread wasn’t like my fave and the bbq tofu could benefit by being seitan instead in my humble opinion but still… it was amazing. Now, all you bougie snobs, take note that this isn’t some Real Food Daily or Madeleine Bistro type of spot. Don’t go here trying to impress your actress girlfriend who just decided to go vegan for a weeks to drop some pounds. Take her to La Poubelle where the beautiful people are and let her pick at salad. This is a blue collar joint with food made full of love… and best of all, it’s open until 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Seriously, I could cry with joy.

I first had their breakfast sandwich at the West Hollywood Farmer’s Market which was good. Then I went to their restaurant which is a weird little upstairs place and although there was only 1 other couple there, we weren’t attended to for an uncomfortable while, leaving us standing there at the counter looking at each other like WTF? When they were done chatting up the previous customers, they took our order and we waited to eat there. And waited. And waited. I wanted to like this place, but I couldn’t. Their famed lasagna, mac and cheese, corn bread, and greens were all nothing better than something I could have slapped together. Everything was cold and warm at the same time, gritty, and powdery. In fact, it really seemed like old food warmed in a microwave, nay, under a heat lamp. This is actually plausible since we went late, nearly 9pm and they do catering/prepared foods for places like Whole Foods and apparently it’s all done from that little place. Not too sanitary looking, btw. My BF who usually loves this place said it was a *REALLY* off night and apologised for probably turning me off to vegan soul food. If the two guys at the counter weren’t so nice, I would probably not even think about trying it again.

Ever since I had the first taste of this food at the Hollywood Farmer’s Market, I’ve been a fan. It seems this brand of soul food has had a couple of incarnations and now we have this location. I love, no– LOVE the mac n’ cheez. Second in line is the veggie«roast», then come the greens and the black eye peas. Put some hot sauce on all of it and go to town! Their corn bread is good, and I really enjoy all the ginger juices too. Also the sweet potato pie is amazing. THUMBSWAYUP!

the best vegan soul food i’ve ever had! i have tried the mac n cheese, bbq tofu, kale, black-eyed peas, lasagna, tofu sandwich, and falafel sandwich. everything i have ordered has been finger-lickin’ good. the mac n cheese especially was so tasty, it didn’t even taste vegan! the service can be a little slow, so you may want to call your order in ahead of time. also, because of the area, you may wanna avoid this place late at night. a taste of life also has an awesome stand at the hollywood farmers market on sunday mornings, you should definitely check that out as well. all around, a very yummy find. oh, and they CATER! makes me want to get married again, just to have them serve their delicious vegan food at my wedding!

THISPLACEISAWESOME! it’s a vegan soul food place that opened recently at vermont and fountain. Me and two friends went there and got two«dinners» and it was more than enough food. the people working there were very nice and welcoming. They didn’t open until 7:30 because of yom kippur and were surprised to see us waiting for them to open. the best thing by far was the«breaded loaf» which tastes like southern fried chicken. Kale greens, black eyed peas, and potato salad also fantastic. order at the counter, it took a while to get our food, but it’s soul food, so i don’t mind waiting a little longer to have a meal cooked with love. i will be going back every chance i get.
