A Current Affair Pop Up Vintage

THE BEST VINTAGE I’VE EVER SEEN/​EXPERIENCED.
Such a fun event – INSANELY amazing clothing from every era (literally something for anyone and everyone who loves vintage), fabulous drinks and food, and amazing people watching – I cannot recommend it more highly.
This is not where you go to thrift, it’s where you go to get the highest quality, rarest, and most thoughtfully selected vintage gems that you will cherish in your collection for years to come – and have a really fabulous time while you’re at it.

This is my favorite vintage show! Not only because of the fabulous treasures for sale — vendors from all over California and even some from out of state only bring out their Best for this event, but for the whole experience! It’s in a glamorous downtown window-​filled loft penthouse, there are hip DJs, and an OPEN BAR that serves specialty cocktails! You can rub elbows with hipster-​starlet-​celebrities and Design Industry Bigwigs (I’ve seen Todd Oldham and Trina Turk last time). They also have artsy food vendors now which makes it so you can really spend hours there treasure-​hunting. My favorite booth is in the back right corner (coincidentally by said open bar… Hmmm…) and it’s run by 4 wacky girls who are in a local vintage co-​op that looks like a carnaby street gypsy circus, and if you dig through their racks you can score fun items that won’t blow your budget (or if you’ve already accidentally spent $ 750 on a YSL cloak/​investment piece that you can really wear with everything for the rest of your life…) and want to get just one more thing! Also everyone seems to take credit cards on their phones (which can either be viewed as good or bad depending on how much restraint one has around 1970s YSL cloaks). It’s $ 10 if you want to park in the building, and $ 10 to get in, but you can get discount presale tix on their site
but figure you can make up that price over at the open bar!

No, this is not the popular tabloid show from the 90s. A Current Affair is a vintage clothing show that happens once every 2 – 3 months. It used to be a two day affair that happened 3 times a year, but since that time, they have expanded the times per year, while also shorting it to just one day. They hold it in the top floor of the fashion district building in downtown Los Angeles.
I personally like the show. It’s indoors and they have a booth for Champagne and other drinks. Some of the vendors, I’ve seen at other vintage shows, but there are still a number of unique people who sell here. If I had one complaint, it is that packing up and leaving can be a pain. There is one big freight elevator to take vendors down from the top to the basement area. This usually means a big long line of vendors waiting to fit into the next elevator ride. I can’t see a real solution to that problem unless they did assigned setups and breakdowns for each vendor.

I’ve have been an attendee and a vendor at vintage shows all over the country and I have to say that ACA is hands-​down the best. The quality of the vendors, their merchandise, the customers, atmosphere… all top notch. ACA provides a beautiful presentation and a fun experience. Be prepared to see museum quality offerings, top name designers of then and now and design interesting selections with no name attached. You’ll be taken care of with an impressive drink selection and the perfect soundtrack for your shopping adventures.

A Current Affair happens several times throughout the year so you should sign up for the mailing list on the website to be sure you know about the next one. The show is highly edited and curated– you will not find thrift store quality and fittingly you will not find thrift store prices. You will, however, find exceptional deals on high end vintage including rare and collectible designer pieces from Chanel, Alaia, Missoni, YSL, etc alongside unique vintage items that are not necessarily designer pieces. Several of the exhibitors come from out of state for this show so you will find things that you can’t get anywhere else in LA. There is an open bar, amazing music, and an exhibit of vintage looks that are also for sale.

A Current Affair Pop Up Vintage is an event that features upscale vintage clothing and accessory items from bags to shoes to dresses and jewelry. Admission is $ 10 and I was quite excited when I heard it was going to be held in L.A. this weekend.
When I arrived, however, I was kind of disappointed at how small the venue was. There weren’t as many vendors as I thought there would be, and many of the items being sold were very costumey — as in, no normal person would ever probably walk around wearing the items from these stores. (Unless you were heading to a glitzy event or something…)
I did, however, see some amazing clothing, from chanel to prada to luxurious floor length fur coats. I spotted an amazing jacket that I bought for $ 75, but unfortunately, nothing else really stood out.
The accessories were expensive and unless you are really into bold pieces or love dressing like a celebrity, you probably wouldn’t wear any of the jewelry either.
I think I will skip out on this if it ever comes back to town.
